Dis Breast Cancer Survivors Part IV - GAGWTA

Smiley, have you tried Robin's in Cambria? We drove there from Morro Bay two days in a row just to have lunch! It's very good.

Have only stayed at BWV, but I can tell you the halls are very long there too. We have been "upgraded" at BCV a couple times, from a studio to a resort room, and I was happy. The beds are so much nicer than the villas. That's always a plus.

We stayed at beach club in a resort room during Mardi gras week on year. The room did seem a bit more upscale, but not particularly clean. Also, I remember they assigned us a room that was being rehabbed. We carted our stuff down there. Then had to back track and report the situation. I was hoping they would give us a better view room. Nothing available so we had a crappy room on the first floor where the painters were pressure washing the outside the entire stay. Never could use patio. Bed linens were not very clean either. At least it was on the side by Epcot. I could get there in 5 minutes. Liked that.

BWV has my heart with views. I can I overlook the long hallways for the views.

DH has bags of ducks. He got his limit each day but came home with extra. He's been calling his siblings offering bags of duck breasts.

No we haven't! it was a real toss up for this dinner between those 2 but we were looking for a really good steak and the filet mignon at Madeline's is absolutely amazing!! We will make time for Robin's next trip for sure!! have you been to Madeline's? And.....do you mean you are close enough to go there frequently? I sooooo wish there were some way to make the move there!! Well anywhere from about Santa Barbara to Santa Cruz!! but we would be very happy living in Big Sur, Carmel by the Sea, or Cambria....lol!

Smilie and Dancind, I am drooling when I read about your trips out west.

More photos please, and how about a photo of your cottage themed bedroom? Sounds divine!

OK well it is still a work in progress! like the heater needed replacing so we had an old oil filled one in this pic.....still a few things to do in both bedroom and kitchen, and I still don't have the mirror actually hung on the wall in the bathroom, but it is so big it sits nicely on the counter too....but I have mother of pearl mosaic tiles that will go up around the vanity so the mirror will go up then.....and I have a gardening thing.... especially water features so I chose the glass bowl and found the tap that looks like bamboo, I love the way you can see the seashells right through it!!.....but here is also the stamped concrete driveway we put in, and on top of the house you will see the sail ship weather vane....it was on our sons house. when DIL got her roof redone they took it down and didn't put it back up, she knew she was moving away indefinitely, so gave it to us :( it is like he is welcoming us home every time we drive back in :)
the cabinets and bed set are all made by the same fellow here who builds custom stuff, he is just amazing! I fell in love with harbor fog so put it on the cabinets and some walls! lol... but went with an antique white for the bed set.

Love the soft colors, Smilie, bedroom walls and the cabinets.

The bamboo faucet is perfect with the clear glass bowl.

Your story about the weather vane and your DS welcoming you home really got to me.

I guess the foliage through your bedroom window was taken during the summer? It sure looks lush, even tropical!

Two weeks and counting until DD23 and her BF fly in. So much to do.

Yay to your daughter and BF being home for Christmas!! actually no, that was in late October, you can see my fall wreath on the door, but most of the stuff you see stays green through the year. This part of Canada I live in usually only gets down to freezing for maybe a few days in the winter, some winters barely at all. lot's of winters we have no snow at all, just lot's of rain. I remember when we moved here I was a child of 9. Had been born in the Rocky mountains where we had to board up our first floor windows in the winter because the snow got so deep!! We came here for a look in March when everything at home was still mostly brown and dead except for the evergreen trees. We drove off the ferry onto the coast road which is a narrow 2 lane twisting turning up hill and down affair.... the ocean was to one side and the other side was rock bluffs covered in moss and ferns hanging down, all the rhododendrons everywhere, the arbutus trees, flowers were already blooming....it was like arriving in heaven!! lol.... that memory stuck with me like it happened yesterday. Less than a month later we were living here....my mom and dad were so happy not to have to shovel snow allllllll the time at least most winters!! :)

Smiley, love the very beachy feel of your home! Not to mention how lush the surroundings are.......I would love so much to live by the ocean! My fantasy is San Diego, or to be more to the point, Coronado (LOL, since I am fantasizing and all!). I agree with Laurie about the weather vane and your son welcoming you home- very sweet.

So, I've been busy changing our hotel reservations so we can include a drive down to Cambria! It just sounded so nice! Now the itinerary is 3 nights in SF, 1 night Monterey, 2 nights Cambria, and 1 night Santa Cruz. We will for sure check out Robins and Madeline's. I sure do love all the helpful info! I ended up reserving the Marriot Union Square.....hopefully it will work out OK.

Laurie, my DH would be thrilled to come over for dinner and help you with all that duck!

LMP, how was Be Our Guest? I know you said you were excited to get a reservation there.

I had a referral visit to an urologist today, due to blood in my urine (not that I can see). Anyway he wants me back next week for further testing so he can look at my bladder. Sounds peachy. :rolleyes1

Can't believe Christmas is only two weeks away. We are having our traditional party the night of.....dinner, gift exchange, fun and games for approx 25-30. Trying to rein it in somewhat this year, going to keep the menu limited to a reasonable number of dishes! I tend to get carried away.

Making progress on the condo purchase, hopefully a closing date will be soon.

GAGWTA!! :goodvibes

We don't live in CA. I wish! We stayed a week in a cottage on the water in Los Osos, which is next to Morro Bay in May.

CherylDan, we stayed in Cambria for a night on a prior trip. Absolutely loved the Sand Pebbles Inn. So comfortable and affordable. You don't really need an ocean view, it's right across the street.

Love the bedroom pictures. Looks so serene. Maybe I will figure out how to put up pictures of our kitchen when we get it finished.

I haven't been around for a few days. A friend from the UK has been in town and I've been doing the theme parks with him.

Hope things are going well for everyone!

I saw my oncologist today. I had a PET scan done last week. Unfortunately, this scan and the one prior have shown something on my liver. He doesn't think it is cancer or even a tumor, but says we have to know for sure. So, tomorrow, I'm having an abdominal CT scan with contrast. I should know the results on Friday. He seemed pretty optimistic that it would be nothing, but I can't help being worried. Just tired of this train and ready to get off!

Thursday, I have the procedure at the dermatologist. Hope, hope, hope that this is the last of it for this year!

Thinking of you all!

Isn't the Sand Pebbles Inn so nice!!? they gave me a voucher for a one night free stay next trip, which I think may come sooner rather than later! Do you mind sharing the name of the cottage you stayed in? we are looking for a longer term stay in a cottage next time as well. There is one I found in Carmel by the Sea, and there are cottages right in Big Sur but those were really pricey!
Cheryl....at the Sand Pebbles, almost every room has at least some ocean view, just ask to be on the top floor! and the windows open and they have a little fireplace, we opened the windows and went to sleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the beach :cloud9: and they have a very nice breakfast in the morning, also cookies and coffee and tea in the lobby :goodvibes

Sorry I've been MIA for so long...had a rough few weeks but getting back to normal now. The MRI I had last month showed that the tumor has shrunk but it also showed a small lesion at 6:00 in my right breast, which is where the cancer is now. So, back in for a (very painful) biopsy on that and, fortunately, it came back as a benign fibroid. Whew! Still having issues with food not tasting right and I've lost more weight...down to 133 lbs now. I look like a walking skeleton.

Good news is I only have 2 more treatments!!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1: My last one will be December 30th. I'm just trying to hold on until then. I haven't gone back to catch up with everyone but I hope you all are doing well. :goodvibes

Do a search for "The Green Cottage Los Osos", it comes up first. Not cheap, and only room for two really, but it was a 25th Anniversary trip.

If you get over to Paso Robles, go eat at Artisan. One of our best meals ever. Not much to see around there except wineries, but oh the food!

Peg, I hope the doctor is right. And I hope you are done with new scares for a long time.

Jilly, two more treatments is so close to the end of it! Hang in there.

I am glad to have found this thread.

There is a spot that the docs were watching closely on my mammos that changed this year so after a core biopsy I was diagnosed with non-invasive DCIS breast cancer in mid-November.

There is a large history of breast cancer on both sides of my family so I wasn't totally surprised but I had hoped the family curse wouldn't get me until I was older.

I have decided to do the double mast. with implant reconstruction. I have also had the blood drawn for the BRAC test - One of my sisters is positive for it and she had Stage II breast cancer before she was 40.

I figure if I'm BRCA positive once I get through this breast cancer, I'll be looking at having my ovaries removed. At 50, I'm done having kids and don't need the ovaries.

I'm not sure when my surgery will be yet - probably in January sometime. I have an appointment with the surgeon coming up next week to figure that out.

I've never had surgery before so I'm nervous about this and wish the surgery was already over.

At least I have Christmas and all the preparations to keep me occupied.

Feralpig- I had a spot on my liver as well when I was diagnosed, and now after a couple years of nothing changing on it (good, bad, or otherwise) my oncologist isn't even sure it was cancer since we never biopsied it in the first place. Here's hoping for you!

smiley_face2- LOOKIN' GOOD!

Welcome to the thread GaSleepingBeautyFan- wish you never had to find it, but it's been great for me here in my short amount of time on this board!

I just got back from a visit with my surgeon. He's quite happy with the progress of my wound, and so am I! He wanted to take some more silver nitrate to it today, but I convinced him to hold off since I didn't have any pain meds with me (and it was REALLY painful last time), so I'll deal with it (maybe) next week. I'm hoping to have a CAT scan on Christmas Eve to see how things are going (they're fine I know, but need the data), but it's all dependent on the IV that day, which doesn't always go well. We'll see!!

I hope everyone is having a great December. I'll be having a better one when it's over and winter just ends. :rotfl2: GAGWTA!

Trying to catch up

Gasleeping beauty - welcome bu sorry you are here. It sounds like you have a good plan in place. Wishing you all the best.

smiley and dancinid - love hearing about your trips and seeing the pics

Linda - love your new bedroom and how about Ellsbury??

Laurie - I hope you have a wonderful christmas with your dd and her bf

Cheryl - Are they wanting to do the camera procedure? Sorry if you have to go through that. That is what they wanted to do to me.I remember Linda was telling me it would be ok. After them changing my appt. and saying a 3rd dr. was going to do it, I said forget it. But I hope this works out for you and you get a def. answer.

Peg - Glad you had a nice time in the parks. Love the decorations and the weather. Hope the ct.went well today and that your procedure tomm. is as pain free as possible.

kofslinky - good news and I hope the wound continues to heal well

Jillyb - sounds like the end is in sight. Hang in there! Hope you can find something that tastes good. Maybe the ensure clear or make a fruit smoothie in the blender etc. I lost 60lbs at first and looked like a skelton too dh said. The pants were falling off of me! now i am back to being pooh sized but trying to watch the diet.

Well it never rains but pours around here. The night we got back ds1 announced he was moving out and left. Today he was back since he slept in his friends parents basement and said all he smelled all night long was cat pee. Guess he saw the grass is not always greener on the other side etc. I think he will be here for a while yet.

Today I had the mammo. They didnt ask for extra pictures. They took enough. I am thinking their machine is old and she said something about a short plate? I think I should look into another place next year with digital equipment? She said oh you will get the results in the mail in about a week, so I am thinking that sounds good? Then in the afternoon I had to go to a school meeting and I managed to wash all dh clothes. He was suppose to go to Calif. tomm. but that might be on Monday now.

GAGWTA. Thinking of you all. Sorry if I missed anyone.

Hi, Everyone! Hope you are all having a good holiday season!

Good news! The CT scan on my liver came back negative. Nothing to worry about. I'm very relieved! And, the surgery to remove the area on my back was a piece of cake. Other than getting those stiches out right after Christmas, no doctor appointments until next year! YES!

I'm having a hard time getting a grip on the idea that I am done with all this. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. So looking forward to next year!

Wishing you all the very best holidays ever!

Peg, that's great news!

GaSleeping, welcome to the thread. There are lots of great ladies here for support.

LMP, are you all rested up from your trip?

JillyB, I hope your tastebuds start improving so you can enjoy some Christmas goodies. I know it takes awhile.

Smiley and Dancind, are either of you familiar with the Pelican Inn Cambria? We have a non-refundable reservation there, I hope it is nice.

I still haven't made any plans other than hotel reservations. :rolleyes1 I really need to get busy with that! Just so much going on right now, trying to get ready for Christmas and I'm SO far behind!

We finally closed on the condo Friday, so now we have started a big rehab project.....because, well, who doesn't want a big rehab project at Christmas?!? LOL
