I agree with Linda, thanks so much for posting these details, Lisa. Your info may just save lives here.

I would have done the same as if I had the info. If I knew I carried the gene, I would definitely do bilateral prophalactic mastectomies and have the ovaries removed.

I really like the preventative side of medicine. With Tamoxiffen, all vestiges of estrogen was removed anyway.

It becomes more problematic for a younger person who has yet to marry and have a family. These are difficult choices.

The GYN doc who sees my mother, my sister and me has told my sister she should test. She outright rejected it initially. She has been reconsidering it though. What she maintains is that she would NOT have the preventative surgery, only have more monitoring.

She has had numerous surgeries over the last 10-15 years. The negative reactions to meds and anesthesia drugs she has endured plays into this. Everyone is different.

As I said this is a difficult area.

Good evening ladies

Tru Blu (tracey) - As I said on the c and c board, I am praying for your mom. I know its hard for you to see her going through this, but she sounds like she is a fighter for sure. Please take care of yourself too. I need a verse for you today..hmm..Joshua 1:9, no matter what or where, He is with you!! Blessings always. Hang in there!!

Sha - I am sure your smile will come back soon. I think one day my ds said to me, mom do you know you use more muscles making a frown then you do a smile? I told him I was in pain at the time. So here is a :) for you sista!! I have never done the tea before and doubt I could drag dh to it anytime on this trip either. It looks wonderful from all the ictures I have seen.

Ann - The color sounds great. Of course I am always partial to the blue tones. Its my favorite color, green, water hues etc. its all good.

Linda - wow, you went through alot. Good for you!! I dont think I could even physically attempt something like that.

Laurie and FL Lisa - you both have great wisdom and insight too.

Well ds20 is so sick with a stomach virus. What a way to start spring break and I sure dont want it. The local hosp. by me has been sending advertisements for a gamma machine for followup, I guess is this after the mamo and before the mri. They said they are only one of the few hosp. around here to have this technology etc.

I stayed up to like 1 am last night typing for dh, we did 5 pages and did the other 2 this afernoon. He also told me in June he is going around the world probably again, this will be after the april around the world and the may to england. Hmm, I see alot of ff miles for a december trip in our future.:) That thought will probably be the only thing keeping me sane through all of this.

Did I tell you that the univ. letters are gong out on April lst. Dh friend found out.

And the biggest news...I, well DH and I are going to DISNEY.:yay:. We cashed in all his almost 200K miles and we booked the Polynesian, not my lst choice but all they had left for the gift card. We are going May 18-23. It was a great deal moneywise for us. Now for adrs. We will be celbrating my b day and anniversary there.

Tomm. is dh surgeon visit. Say a prayer. I hope he can help dh. The other dr. said, oh we dont operate on this., so maybe if it has gotten worse this guy might have another opinion. I am not going.

GTAGWTA. Thinking of you all.

Im not frowning either which I guess is good. but am clenching my teeth a lot.

I was amazed at the number of men at tea with spouses or gf's counted between 10-15. Did I ever show you guys the article I wrote for Celebrations Magazine?

I don't think so. Please share!!

I would love to attend the tea some day. It is not DH's scene but I think I could persuade him.

Good afternoon ladies

Sha - please share the article if you can!!

Laurie - hmm, if you have a plan to get your dh to do the tea, let me know. I might try it on dh too:)

Well dh calledl me and the surgeon told him the "s" word - surgery.:scared1: He said, its bad, really bad!! So dh is scheduled for surgery on April 8th I think he said.
It will be in the ambulatory place. I have never had any of my surgeries there and ds had his in the hosp. last year too. So I guess I will go with him for the pre op testing, also ds18 is home that week for spring break, so I guess he can go with us and drive home etc. I can barely take care of myself. I dont iknow how I will help with dh, other than handing out food, pain pills etc. and Laurie visions of you are flashing through my mind with your recent surgery. The surgeon mentioned the sitz baths to him and told him he will have a rough couple of days post op. Well I am glad as dh is just in so much pain sometimes, cant even sleep etc. So a solution is in sight for him.

This dr. is the best surgeon for this at the hosp. I met him when he covered once for my surgeon in the hosp. He has an accent that is sometimes hard to understand, but has lots of experience etc.

Ds20 is over his 24 hr. stomach virus, but seems weak etc.

GTAGWTA. Thinking of you all.

LMP - sorry your husband needs surgery but I hope it helps him.

It finally feels and looks like spring, sun is out and it's 50 - nice. Only 5 rads left to go. The exchange surgery later in the year and 5 years of Tamoxifen - WOW - it really just keeps on reminding us that we will never be the same doesn't it. I'm not sure why I ever thought I would be - Chemo induced fog maybe :lmao:. I knew I never was "normal" but now I guess I do have to find a new "normal".

Yesterday the 4 year old boy of some friends was in the car with us and he turned and looked at me (he sees me quite often and has since he was born) and says "I don't like your hair like that" (I'm currently still bald) I told him "You know what - I don't like my hair like this either" and he looked at me with a satisfied nod and went back to playing with his toys in his car seat. It was so funny - we all had a hard time holding back the laughter. Out of the mouths of babes!!! Just had to share the funny story.

Have a good day everyone.

Too funny, KJ! I keep getting compliments on my hair when I'm wearing the wig from people who don't know my hair hasn't grown back yet. I usually just tell them thank you. While my hair is starting to grow back, my family are the only people that have had the privilege of seeing it, lol.

LMP - You certainly have your hands full. I hope everything goes well with your DH's surgery.

Sha - Great article!

I probably should wear something but I hate having anything on my head so I wear a hat when I have to go to the store or somewhere where I don't know people, but at work and with friends or in the car - I'm bald.

I did forget to put my hat on though before I went to pick up a vehicle we were having repaired. But the repair man's mom had breast cancer so he wasn't too :scared1: at seeing a bald woman in front of him. Totally didn't realize I didn't have the hat on until I got there and the wind had picked up and I was walking up to the door and felt that very cold wind blowing through the peach fuzz. I wonder how long it takes to grow back?? It had been down to my waist when I lost it - do you think it will be back by the end of summer :rotfl:.

my mom laughed from your little story about the hair.

Thanks about the article. I hope to meet up with some from the magazine on the 10th. I hope I can do that.

Maryann, did I miss what your DH's surgery is for? The sitz bath makes me wonder.

sounds all to familiar for me.

If he has the abscess, I can totally understand why he is not sleeping..

Has he had the good old colonoscopy yet? Maybe y'all are too young?

Your sons need to step up to the plate and help your DH during recovery.

Your DH realizes he will miss some work, doesn't he?

KJ, I loved the story about your head and the little boy. You sound like you have a healthy attitude about all of it, as does Lisa.

Hey, where all y'all?

My garden is liking the work we did this weekend. It has been glorious weather from Saturday straight through today and into at least next Saturday.

Our azalias decided to let loose and are at full bloom. It is amazing how much better they look with all that pink. I should take a picture and post. Hell, maybe I will.

Have a good one.

Gotta buy the graduation dress, maybe today.

Hi Everyone!

Beautiful day here today, but a little cooler than I'd like for this time of year. It's nine weeks exam time at DS's high school. That means school release at 11:45 and going out to lunch. I used to do that with DD through her high school years, but I wasn't well enough to do that with DS during the first half of the school year. He was pleasantly surprised!

Have a great day everyone!:sunny:

Lisa, glad you were able to share the day with your son. What a beautiful way to spend your day.

I am getting excited about Easter!

Quick post. With all the ds home during the week, ds18 will be home starting tomm., and one computer equals no time for me!

Still waiting to hear when dh pre op will be.

Just reviewed our trip resrvation and I dont see the gift ard metioned. I hope she booked it with the right code. I had dh ask this several times. So I might have him call to verifty etc. Its under his ff account, so I cant.

lmp, looking forward to hearing about your trip. :wizard:

KJ, funny story! :rotfl: I remember when I went without my wig for the first time, I went to pick up my 6yr olds at summer camp and one of the kids there asked them, "Why does your Mom wear her hair like that?" Ah, the memories. (Actually, I LOVED the way my hair was for about 2 yrs post baldness. Now it's back to normal, lol.)

FYI guess all the trouble was worth it, my MRI was normal. :goodvibes My oncologist also told me that after my next 6 month visit, I could come once a year :woohoo: (as long as I keep up with my mamms and MRIs and that either her or my primary care does a clinical breast exam every six months). Wow. The feeling reminds me of how fast your kids grow up. It seems like yesterday I was sick, but here it is over 6 1/2 years since my diagnosis. Somehow bittersweet. :scratchin

I'm going to come off my Ark today. Rain finally stopped. :umbrella: GAGWTA

Good evening ladies

KJ - Loved your hair story. That was cute and innocent of the little boy.

Linda - Glad for your good news:):thumbsup2

Well I am :sad1::sad1::sad1:
Ds did not get into the state univ. Actually he did, but he is on a wiat list of 700 students and they said that last year with the same # on the wait list they only accepted 17 of them:scared1:. So he is upset. I am beyond upset. I told him I think he should just go to the local com. college since they have an agreement with the state univ. to accept the students after they graduate and he already is taking 2 classes in school, so that is 6 credits, and he can get a jump on apploying for the pt asst program for fall 2011.

We are also still waiting to hear about the scholarship. I am sure it wont be good news either.

Poor ds found out at school when he checked on line. We havent gotten the actual letter yet.

Dh hasnt heard about the pre op and just got his travel plans and is suppose to leave for frankfurt 8 days post op and be gone for 9 days. Wow, add to this his boss saying he is suppose to go to some management retreat right before our vacation. I reminded him right before the vacation I need the 2 horrid shots etc. His boss is just doing this to be a pain in the butt to dh. I said, forget it, you are not even suppose to be working in that dept. much longer.

Ds wants to go to Great Adventure tomm. Oh yea ds 20 driving out of state , yeah right. I told them either take him car shopping or I will give them money to go into the city. Ds18 needs a diversion right now. He is also applying to the college where I worked, I dont know why. He doesnt even like any of the majors there etc.

Sometimes life is hard. This is one of those times I gues, sigh, sigh.
