Things have been crazy busy here but I wanted to say I'm keeping up with your posts and always have you all close to my heart and in my prayers. :grouphug:

PS lmp, sunroom is 99.9% finished as of TODAY! :woohoo: We are having a big party tomorrow to celebrate kids' bday and our beautiful new space.

Good morning ladies. Hope everyone is doing well on this Saturday morning.

I am driving up to Bretton Woods to meet a lady from Twin Mountain who also has bladder cancer. I met her on another message board and she is interested in starting a woman's bladder cancer support group in our area. The problem is that our area is pretty widespread! And bladder cancer is not that common in women. But she has found a few and we are going to try to get something going.

Should be a good day. A chance to talk with someone else who knows how much fun it is to put your feet in the stirrups and get catheterized over and over! Makes your annual pelvic exam look like a piece of cake!

Just wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing. It's going to be a crazy week for me, so I probably won't be on here at all until next weekend.

I'm having my reconstruction surgery Wednesday morning. I have to be at the hospital at 6 am. I can't wait to get these expanders out!

Hope everyone has a good week.:)

Good afternoon ladies

Lisa - Wishing you all the best with your upcoming surgery:hug:

KJ - Wishing you all the best with your appt. tomm

PatsMom - hope your support group meeting went well

Ann - hope the race had good weather for you

Linda - Happy birthday to your ds and dd

Ds18 ran a 5k benefit race yest. for extra gym credit. It was like 45 min. away for some little known rare disease. 2 kids who have it were there. He got like 250 out of 750 people. Pretty good for his lst time.. Dh callled from England. Of course I missed it. I took my cell phone to bed with me and he calls on the house phone. I think I will call about my blood tests this week, along with the sono stuff pre auth and reclast precert etc. etc. I guess the squeaky wheel will get the appt. They were suppose to do the reclast and I was suppose to check on the ultrasound as the hosp. changed their policy. Throw in the 24 page open enrollment book dh told me to read. :) I will be watchng the yankees tomm. night and ds20 has promised to take me to the grocery store, oh what an adventure that always is:)

GTAGWTA. Blessings to you all always.

Lisa - :woohoo: So glad to hear you get the expanders out! I hope your recovery is quick and easy. Mine isn't for another month yet and I can't wait, they are sooo uncomfortable. I'm so excited for you.

PatsMom- just thinking of you and hope you are doing well and that the support group does well.

MaryAnn - Thanks for the thoughts, I appreciate it.

I'm so sure it's nothing - just a lump. I'm probably just getting "old lady lumps" just like my old golden retriever got "old dog lumps" as he aged.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Hello all. A good friend, Jackskellingtonsgirl has sent me to this thread for advice and support.

I went in on October 6th for my annual diagnostic mammo. (My Mom had bc as well as my dad's sister. Since I have DD with calcifications they started doing diagnostic four years ago.) After initial pics, they came back out to get me to do targeted pics, then a sonogram, then worked me in later that day for a ultrasound core biopsy. Two days later they called me with the news that I have a small invasive duct cancer. That day I made an appt. with my Mom's breast surgeon. That was last Wednesday, the 13th. He wanted to do a ct, mri and bone scan, and thankfully, I was able to do the ct and mri that night, with the bone scan the next day. I have an appt. tomorrow for genetic testing/counseling. When I got home from the bone scan I had a message that they want me to do another ultrasound after looking at the mri. I went in last Friday to do that, and they had found three more spots, two near the first one and one a few inches away. Before I even got out of the parking lot from having the biopsies, the doc's office had called to get me in to an appt. with a plastic surgeon.

I will have a lot of questions I'm sure and I apologize that I haven't had time to go back and read the thread. I will read it, but time is at a premium now. I work a 50 hour work week, have a teenager and a tween who are involved in sports, have a 40 mile commute and am looking at major surgery in the next couple of weeks. I'm quickly trying to get ahead at work and thinking of putting up my Christmas decorations and trying to get most of the shopping done. I won't get everything done, but if I can get some of it done I think I'll feel less stressed. The decorations are important to me as I'll be house bound, love, love, love them and think they will be soothing to me. I will most likely do gift cards for most of the family to get it out of the way as I know everyone will understand. I've also had offers of help with decorating.

For now, I just wanted to say hello and to ask if there is anywhere on the thread that has bullet points or an outline of some of the questions asked, or am I going to need to go back and read this one and the two older threads?

Thanks for listening everyone.

Marci

Hi Marci  Sorry you are here, but glad you found us. Don't be afraid to just jump in with questions....there are some truly amazing women here on this thread always ready to help.

I understand what you mean about the holidays. I was diagnosed at just about this time four years ago, and had the same thoughts. Take up those offers you are getting for help. And let me just say that that was the year that I discovered the joy of Amazon! :surfweb:

I know it's overwhelming right now. Hopefully when you get a treatment plan in place it will help with that feeling. It's the inbetween time that's the worse. Hang in there.

GAGWTA!!!:goodvibes

Just a quick hello, and good thoughts to everybody with upcoming procedures, treatments, and waiting. :grouphug:

marci - So sorry to hear that you have to join us. As Cheryl stated, feel free to ask any question you want. We have been through it all probably and there is a wealth of knowledge and information here. And also sometimes it's nice just to vent because everyone here understands what you are going through whereas friends and family don't always...We share the tears and joy as well. Take it one step at a time and realize that there will be a huge learning curve so write down your questions, keep a journal of when you have what done, how you feel etc. because you will need this information in the future and it's hard to remember 6 or 9 months later what the date of last chemo/last radiation/last mammo/last biopsy/last ultrasound etc etc etc is. I take my journal to every appointment.

I was diagnosed Oct 1 of last year. Yep the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Everywhere I turned there was the reminder of what I was facing. I was never so glad to see November come around.

I did get good news today - the lump is just an "old lady lump" so I don't even need a biopsy on it . The bad news - I'll remain lopsided :lmao:. Since I decided not to have any implant on the non-mastectomy side it's just not quite as perky as the expander side but scientists say we aren't symetrical anyway, on some of us it's just more evident :rotfl:. Since I got home from work early today and feel so energetic from that news I think I'll put an extra mile on the treadmill and get ready for all that walking at Disney.

I hope everyone has a great week.

GAGWTA.

marcij - Welcome to the thread. I hope that we are able to help you in some way.

KJ - Great news about the lump! You must be so relieved.

I am counting down the hours until surgery tomorrow morning. I spent 2 1/2 hours in the hospital yesterday with my friend who has lung cancer. Things have not been going well for her. It has moved into her spine and she's having trouble walking. They want to give her 14 radiation treatments to shrink the tumor so she can at least be mobile again. I've got a hair appointment in 45 minutes, so I need to run. I will post as soon as I'm able after the surgery.

Have a great week!

Good luck, Lisa!

Please post and let us know how you are doing afterwards.

I hope the radiation gives your friend more mobility. My boss's mother had inflammatory cancer that moved to her spine and radiation helped her alot.

Sorry I have been MIA. I have been following along with the thread when I can but not posting. I meet myself coming and going with my PT. I am derelict in so many ways these days.

I want to answer Marci's post, maybe today at work if I can swing it. Gotta love Elizabeth for steering you this way. She is great!

Congrats on your sun room construction being almost finished, Linda.

Glad your lump was not a problem, KV.

LMP, hang in there while your DH is out of town.

Lisa - Sending you good wishes tomorrow. Let us know how it went and that you are all right.

Cheryl - How are you doing? Thinking about you.

GAGWTA and hope everyone is enjoying their day.

Good afternoon ladies

Marci - welcome. Elizabeth has sent you to a good place. The ladies here have a wealth of knowledge and information. They isnpire me for sure (I have a different cancer and they have adopted me). You can also come here to vent, cry etc. They sure have listenend to me alot for sure!! Wishing you all the best

Lisa - Prayers for your surgery tomm.

KJ - You really didnt want twin "girls" did you. Just kiidding. I dont mean to offend you in any way. You know my strange sense of cancer humor.

PatsMom - wishing you all the best with the treatment tomm.

Cheryl - Thinking of you. I am sure the waiting is a killer.

Laurie - so glad you posted!

Anne - how are you feeling?

Barbara - if you are reading, thinking of you. Hope all is well

Well ds20 took me to the grocery store and was actually nice to me. I was so tired out just doing that. Saw a girl who left our church. Her sis has breast cancer. Saw them at some preops and in the hosp (her sis- the sis's dd was actually having the surgeries). Dh has called twice and I missed both of them, oh well. I need to tackle all the medical stuff this week with calls etc. Dh said he cancellled his nov. trip, yeah!!.He was in england now off to denmark.

GTAGWTA. Thinking of you all. (I will be watching the Yankees tonight:))

lmp - So glad to hear your DH cancelled his nov. trip. His travels do take him far afield frequently. Thought of you last night when the coyotes where putting up quite the racket. There must have been almost a dozen just yards from the house. I was outside looking at the stars and listening to them. And no - wasn't looking for a matched set. No offense taken - I love a good sense of humor and always up for a good laugh.

PatsMom - will be thinking of you tomorrow with your treatment. Hope it goes well.

GAGWTA, Ladies! :)

I see that Marci found her way to this thread. I have assured her that you ladies are a wonderful source of comfort and information. :goodvibes Thank you for welcoming her!

Lisa, thinking of you today! I hope all goes well! :wizard:

I need to read back and catch up. Thinking of you all and hope that everyone is doing well! :flower3:

Uggh, having technical problems posting on this thread lately for some reason... Once again just lost a post. :headache:

I did get good news today - the lump is just an "old lady lump" so I don't even need a biopsy on it
Yay!! :cool1: :woohoo: :yay:  (Tears of relief!) I'm so glad.

Welcome, marci. You remind me of myself also, trying to get everything done still - even though you have so much on your own plate. It's admirable, and understandable for those of us used to doing it all. But at some point, you may need to "give in to it" and let things go a bit, and/or let people help you. It was hard for me to do that myself. But it's going to be a long year and you need to conserve your energy and take time for your inner self, which, if you're like the rest of us, may need some nurturing also. It's hard to go through a life threatening illness. We can talk more about it as time goes on. ;) Do you have any specific questions?

Ann, thinking of you and hoping things are ok.

GAGWTA. :flower3:

Thanks everyone for the welcome! :goodvibes

Things have moved quickly today and it looks like my surgery might be in a little over two weeks. After talking to my plastic surgeon, I am not a good candidate for implants, so it looks like it will be tissue reconstruction from my abdomen. Has anyone had this type of surgery?

I'm also looking for info on sentinel node surgery. He wants to do that a week to 10 days before my major surgery. I haven't gotten to talk to them about specifics so does anyone have experience?

And last, I've been told it would be helpful to have button pajamas with wicking. I don't know if we are allowed to mention brands or names on here, but if you have some experience with this, would you PM me if we can't post?

I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of your help. :goodvibes

marci: what is sentinel surgery? I had senintel node mapping one day prior to my bilateral surgeyr which was in April.. Just curious...sorry you are here. It really stinks but know you will get through it.

I have not been on these boards for awhile...finished my treatments in August and now starting to feel so much better.
I go for my exchange surgery in November... In 3 weeks I have to pick what implants I want.

Originally wanted the gummies but now thinking not.. FOr anyone who has done implants lately...what did you choose.
right now have the TE's...boy do I not like them...

Sentinel node biopsy or dissection

http://www.cancernews.com/data/Article/202.asp

http://www.breastcancer.org/treatment/surgery/lymph_node_removal/sentinel_dissection/

I had mapping done the morning of my surgery. During the surgery, they took out the sentinel node and ran it off to the pathology lab, where it was studied. Because my sentinel node was positive, they went back in and removed a total of 8 nodes. Two were positive, and that bought me some extra chemo as a precaution (to metastasis; and actually, having a positive node is considered a "local" metastasis :guilty: ). I've had some issues with mild lymphedema in that arm, and they also radiated that whole area which, between that and the surgery, has left the area pretty tender and sore, even years later. But it beats the cases of severe lymphedema that I used to see years ago when they routinely took out all the lymph nodes in the axillary area (and the lymph fluid had nowhere left to go). It's important to do the exercises they prescribe after your surgery so that the lymph fluid can reestablish a way to get back up from your arm to the rest of your body. Surgery and radiation help abolish those original pathways somewhat. It's a pretty amazing technology, though, when you think about it. Will they do radiation with you?
