GAGWTA---ha, now I can use it because I know what it means. LOL

I will be hanging around. I have been lurking/following the thread since Part 1 so I will have my eyes on you all.;)

:lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc

Isn't GAGWTA fabulous? It does bear explaining to someone new, but it is so inclusive, especially for people like me who even though I am on this thread alot still can't keep up with everyone's points posted here, especially with all of our wonderful newer sistas. Ann, whose husband's phrase "don't bleed till your shot", gets the credit for our GAGWTA name.

Which reminds me, I meant to mention to Linda, good luck to your son with his pitching career. He sounds like he is HOT HOT HOT!!!

Maureen, how did the trip to the doctor go yesterday?

jackskellingtonsgirl, any more news from Mom?

Sha and jackskellingtonsgirl, should we target a particular weekend December 2009? I agree going during the school year is difficult. Are everyone's kids off the first week of January? I have only been late January, although DH's IT guy went the first week of January 2008, and he said it was crazy busy. Has anyone else tried early January? Not sure I care how busy it is if I can meet up with you guys. Would the first weekend in January work for y'all? Say January 2-4th? We went one year to WDW during Thanksgiving, it was nice but pretty busy. Gosh the weather was divine. That is another possibility, but airline tickets are so pricey. Prices might be better early January, not sure what will happen with ticket prices going forward.

We are booked the week of Memorial day again but I know that won't work for most of y'all with kids not yet finished school.

I guess you guys don't get Mardi Gras off? We could always go then. It is February 24th for 2009. I would need to go earlier than that in order to get the payroll done that week, say Feb 20-24.

I'll bring the beads and doubloons.

Everyone has to wear bright purple, green and gold (the official Mardi gras colors).

How about a Mardi Gras meet in New ORleans? Anybody on here been before?

We have done mid-January (MLK day) before, but not early January.

DH's bid process works like this:
He bids in Late November for the following calendar year. He gets 2 weeks, and once the bid is over those weeks are set in stone. Trying to plan a vacation for January would send me over the edge, because it would literally be like 5 weeks prior before we knew if he would get the time off. :scared: Bid order is based on seniority, and he hasn't been there long enough to outrank very many guys! This year he decided to take his weeks consecutively, so the time next month is all he gets.

DS has state testing in February - they don't even get President's Day off.

Dec. 4-6, 2009 will be parade weekend - not sure if that really matters. The following weekend Dec. 11-13 might be OK, too. Our DVC is December UY, so even though we'll use all of our points in August we'll have more by December! ;) Airfare is the big wild card. We should definitely keep tossing this around. :thumbsup2

Mom said her MUGA went fine, she gets her port at 9 AM today.

Our DVC is December use year as well.

I like December better, no doubt about it.

I am game for anytime! December, January, whatever. Since I have no airfare costs I would want to host a dinner one of the nights! I would love it! Lets pick a great restuarant for that :cool1:

More later, gotta get back to work!

The one thing I would keep in mind is that Mousefest (Land) is December 10-14th 2009. Its fun but the parks are busier then too. I think that you all would love that time of year with the holiday decorations, the MVMCP (Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party), the Osbourne Lights, and The Candlelight Processional. Oh, and the castle, as I am sure they will light it up again this year. It was GORGEOUS in person! It isnt always warm, sometimes it gets cold. But my friends up north had no real travel problems until after the 1st of the year. And if I may, I would recommend tea at the Grand Floridian (no matter what time of year). And to remember that ADRs are going from 180 day advance to 90 day advance as of Oct 15th 2008 (starts actually on the 16th). I have had fun planning the trip I did with friends in May 2008, and am now assisting for an October one in 2009. And am hopefully doing one for DL too. I digressed... I am sure any time of year would be good for you all. Though summer is too hot and as said, Easter and Spring Break are definite times to miss. I am just partial to the holidays. Disney just makes it magical.

I think ADRs are going back to 180 days after the system gets changed over. I don't know if Disney has actually announced that yet, but that's the speculation on the Touring Plans website.

When we went in 2006 it was cold - we were wearing hats and gloves and coats for MVMCP. Last year we were roasting at MVMCP! I threw some capris and T-shirts in at the last minute, and it turned out to be all I wore the whole weekend! I never needed jeans or a jacket. It was almost too hot to really enjoy the Christmas atmosphere!

Maybe December of '09 will have nice MODERATE temps! ;)

Mom called to say her port insertion went fine. They already called and said her MUGA was normal (but they didn't tell her the numbers, which irritates me). She is good to go for bloodwork Thursday morning, and if all is well she will have her first A/C infusion at 10 AM.

:goodvibes ~~~***GAGWTA sistas***~~~:goodvibes

Isn't summer the best?!?!:beach: I'm getting ready to go out back to the pool. When hubby gets home we're having some appetizers and wine, swimming, dinner outside. Making penne pasta with tons of garden (not mine, lol!) fresh veggies, basil, breadsticks...yum!
Just wanted to pop in and say:wave: :grouphug:
Life Rocks!:goodvibes

Glad SOMEONE is having great weather! It has been mini-hurricane here in South Florida. Rain, rain, rain....accidents, accidents, etc. But I do love summer! (The pasta sounds great!):thumbsup2

Iluv: I am thrilled at your results!! :thumbsup2 Please don't be a stranger!

I have been to WDW a couple of times during the early January timeframe, and also late December over Christmas.
The Xmas to New Years week is heavy for crowds but amazing spirit...wonderful if you're not trying to see/do it all as far as rides/dining.
Crowds drop off right after New Years....and this NE girl does NOT consider 40's in the monring and 70ish in the afternoon to be cold at all ;) In January '05, for the Marathon weekend it was downright HOT!!

It's been my experience as a DISer and also member of other internet message boards, that "meet" planning can be difficult, because there is never one time that "everyone" who is interested can go. It usually takes consensus from a couple of folks who were going to go anyway, to sort of "finalize" dates and then others who are interested can plan accordingly...then a person or two taking the lead in planning a couple of meals (ADRs) and/ or park days ...it falls into place. Just my two cents. :)
Too early for me to plan/project, but I'm game to keep an eye forward to the Dec 09/Jan 2010 period for a GAGWTA meet !!

Also love snappy's NOLA meet idea. DH and I went in fall 1994, he had a work conference. Stayed in the FQ at Hotel Monteleone. We ate well, a lot of times on someone else's nickel. ;) ...and had a wonderful romantic dinner together at the Court of Two Sisters :lovestruc

Keeping all of you and your family members who are in treatment on my thoughts :grouphug:

Laura....I love your "summer spirit!!! :hippie:

GAGWTA!!

Glad mom is doing well.

Can't believe she is finally getting the first chemo.

I'll keep her in my thoughts.

Not necessary for you to host a dinner. Just the pleasure of your company will be a treat in and of itself.

This is pretty exciting.

OK next thing to throw out, what resort should we shoot for? I am really open on this one but would love to hear everyone's favorites.

We have even done offsite pool homes and enjoyed them immensely so I am definitely flexible.

If we do a weekend trip I would prefer to go nonDVC due to double weekend points. I have only stayed so far at Pop, Old Key West, WL, and Boardwalk villas. I am game for others though.

WL is sure nice for the holidays in that wide open lobby. We saw the decorations up at GF in 2002 and I have to say I liked the ones in WL better, so much warmer and cozier. GF is too rich for my blood.

How about Swan/Dolphin? Love that EPCOT area!!! No ME but for a short trip a rental car won't be out of reach.

I am flexible on that as well. For me, its an easy drive up. I would just love to meet everyone!

jackskellingtonsgirl, glad your mom is doing okay. She is in my thoughts!:grouphug:

Thanks for the good wishes for Mom! Hopefully she is not too sore today since this is her last chance to get any little things taken care of before her chemo begins! She bought some new clothes on Monday, which she rarely does. I was glad to hear she was shopping for herself!

Laurie - I can pretty much guarantee that we'll be at AKV since that is our home resort and we can book at 11 months out. I know the weekends eat mass amounts of points, but when DH and I talked about it yesterday my "spin" was using points and the APs it wouldn't be very expensive. :rolleyes1 Weren't you just saying that you would like to try AKL? :rolleyes1 We got an AP rate of $150 per night last December, and we also got a $75 dining gift card. Not too shabby!
We love Pop but there isn't a good way to configure the 3 of us in 2 double beds. Been there, tried that! :rotfl2:

You are right when I stayed at Pop in 2006, it was just me and our then 10 year old. The bed and bedding there were not my cup of tea.

I WOULD indeed love to stay at AKL or AKV. My DH is not hep on it but it might just be our youngest and me for this proposed meet trip. I can't wait to hear about your upcoming trip to AKV.
If we plan this far enough in advance and settle generally on a date timeline maybe we can get one of those good rates on a regular room.

I am looking at December 2009, are we talking December 4-6th, the first week? I do think there are sometimes good room prices for this time period.

Anyone else for AKV?

I have met my New Orleans friend Cindy twice at WDW over the years, brought my mom twice for just a two of us trip, met up with Laura and Alison last year for the RFTC, and met Sha and her darling of a mom this past Memorial day trip. Meets like these add a special dimension to the trip.

I know Linda has gone with her in-laws and Barbara with her son and DIL. Anyone else travel with others or meet up with others?

Love to hear your experiences and what your game plan is.

BTW, we have not done the dining plan, I really don't plan ahead on meals. I opted for the Dining experience card last year and we used that a bit.

With DVC rooms that we have stayed on 3 times by renting, once on our points, we tend to eat a lot because of the kitchen.

December would work better with our use year, jackskellingtonsgirl? However, have you considered the Food and wine time period at Epcot. You probably know all this but it starts around Sept 26 or thereabouts and goes till early or mid November.

DH & I are going for the first time this October, initially it was for the RFTC, but when he indicated an interest in going, the trip morphed into a 30th anniversary (actually on August 5th). When I realized the trip coincided with Food and wine at Epcot and described it to him, he was even more interested.

For a future meet, this time frame would be best staying in the EPCOT area, but I am putting it out there for future consideration.

I will know more whether it is worth considering after I go.

I have something to compare it to, as the New Orleans Jazzfest that we have been going to since pre 1980 has food booths ( scads of them) where you can buy sample sized portions of Louisiana dishes for peanuts. Most of the food I have tried there over the years has been outstanding, I have a few favorites I would never miss.

I am curious how the food at the Epcot F&W will stack up. I think I am in a good position to assess F&W given our long standing experiences at jazzfest.

So you will get a full blown review from me after we get back.

My godness, as Popdaddy would say, this is a very sexy (read as:long for the benefit of our newer posters) post.

Laura, your summer sounds outstanding!! Glad you are making the most of the warm weather and that great pool!!!

A NOLA meet sounds great Ann. I would definitely steer y'all to either spring or fall. Spring is the best time for crawfish and azalias. Fall there are lots of small town festivals. Summer we are generally more humid than Orlando, you want to avoid that time although the hotel prices are better then. Mardi Gras is generally in February or early March if late.

I would recommend Jazz Fest (last weekend in April through the first weekend in May), however, by then it is HOt Hot Hot down here. This year we also had gullywasher rains that prevented even us diehards from attending although we already had our tickets in hand. We were sad but in our early days we attending after rain and the fairgrounds looked like a minature version of Woodstock. We are too damn old for that stuff now.

:thumbsup2 ~~~***GAGWTA sistas***~~~:thumbsup2

jackskellingtonsgirl- I'm so happy to hear things are moving ahead for your mom. Sounds like she's taking the time to treat herself, good for her!:thumbsup2

Iluvthemouse- B9 is my favorite letter/number combo!:thumbsup2 Congrats!:woohoo:

Maureen- I saw the weather is awful in So. FL...sorry!:sad2: Whenever we have a hard summer rainstorm we call it FL rain...:umbrella:

I agree with Ann, it's so hard to pick a date to meet that will work for everyone, believe me! Whatever you all decide if there's a way to be there I will!:thumbsup2
:grouphug:

Laurie- I've been to F&W several times. I really enjoy it, but have a feeling that the food at Jazzfest is probably better. Yes, you'll have to give us a full report. I decided not to stay past Sept 30. Even though the room is paid for 7 nights and we'll only use 4, I need to stick to my budget. I'm being a good girl!

I am afraid we will miss you, Laura, we arrive on the 30 at 2 pm.

Maybe we can meet at the airport?????

I am still playing around with coming in a little early. I am a bad girl. (need a devil smilie).

Laurie - We went to F&WF in 2005. We met a group of DISers and walked around to all of the booths. It was SO much fun! Well, I had fun. DS was bored. DS does usually have one Friday off in October for State Fair. We usually don't go to the fair at all, and especially not the day the entire district is off! :scared: I *think* we could borrow points to go in October of 2009 - I guess I need to check on that.

Last year we went to dinner and Fantasmic! with a group from the Design boards and that was really fun, too! In December a group of 10 of us met at AK for breakfast.

This year we are meeting various DIS families for breakfast, lunch, dinner, a possible gathering at the Adventurers Club, park touring, pool time for the kids and whatever else sounds good at the time! :rotfl: We have a Cape May dinner where we'll have a group of 21! We have made such fabulous friends through these boards! :goodvibes

I am cool with the first or second weekend in December. As long as we choose ahead of time DH can either try to get vacation or at least request some consecutive days off. We would probably fly in on Thursday night and go home early Monday morning.

Dining plan is sort of a waste of money for us because DS12 eats NOTHING. We are doing the Deluxe plan for 7 nights this time because we want to do signature dinners. Those nights are right in the middle, so if we aren't hungry for the last 6 nights of the trip we can adjust the ADRs accordingly and not be out on a pre-paid plan! :rotfl2: Last summer we were so stuffed by about the 6th day of the plan we didn't want to go to our ADRs the last couple of days.

Laura - Sounds like you are having a lovely summer! :goodvibes

It's possible that my family might be planning a trip to Disney in early December of 2009. Don't decide based on me though. If we go, it'll be as soon as my kids finish with their finals. Guess that depends on what college DD decides on. If she goes here, probably the second week of December.

NOLA would also be fun. But I think Jazzfest would still be too hot for me. Maybe in a few years? I might be able to swing Mardi Gras in 2010, but it depends. :confused3
