Could it be depression? I mean clinical depression, not just sadness.

Maybe flying up there, helping her out, and possibly accompanying her on a doctor's visit, would help???

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if she is depressed. She hasn't had ANY pysch support at all. No groups, no counseling, not even an online or phone group to turn to. There are resources in her area, she just chooses not to utilize them. The more I encourage her, the more stubborn she gets. Counseling would be good for her for lots of reasons, not just because of the cancer, but she refuses to go.

She doesn't go back to the oncologist until May. She said she thinks she will see the rad onc on Tuesday. I will giver her another week or so to get those papers filled out, then I am going to have to consider taking matters into my own hands. Her finances are not in good enough shape that she can allow the forms to sit when she could be getting reimbursement, tax refund, etc. :sad2:

Melissa....what is your cousin's DDs name if you don't mind?

Katie

Had to take hubby to the ER at 3:00 a.m. yesterday in a lot of pain. They think he has inflammation around his heart. No heart attack, chest xray and ct are negative, bloodwork and EKG look good, and pacemaker is in place. They admitted him, hopefully they will get it fixed and he can come home today.

Hope he gets to come home today

Did you feel wonderful when you woke up?

I felt fantastic!

Love the Walt connection!

I guess they knew what story I'd identify with the most. :rotfl:

Glad you enjoyed my story. It was pretty cool. This is a busy day. No time to comment on everything. I'm out the door to go to a meeting...two other meetings later today. Wheee! I'm thinking of you all. GAGWTA.

Ann, I like the ring of the "GAGWTA girls" for more reason than one! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Blessings to everyone else too!

Well speaking of dreams, I wanted to share 2 of mine. Please remember I am not responsible for said contents as these dreams were oxyconton pain relieved dreams, I can't actually believe I remembered any of them anyway.

#1 - My aunt, who passed away of cancer 3 years ago came to visit me with my cousin and his ds. They bought an albino rattlesnake with them and left it out in my playroom/den. I asked them to please get the snake out of my house etc. I think I stayed in the bedroom out of shear fear. That is all I remember. My one ds told me, mom I dont think they have albino rattlesnakes, hmm, I havent looked that up on the net yet.

#2 - Hold on gals, because Brittany Spears was driving me around. Yup, no other than Miss Brit herself. All I know was she was very nice to me and a good driver, Didnt have her kids with her and didnt know where we were going. I do think I had my seatbelt on though. I dont remember what if anything we talked about, but she was nice. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

And now back to reality. Sat, and Sun. were um, rather forgetable since the 3 ds were being really bad, lets just say I was doing alot of crying, moaning etc. They are now on their best behaviors. I think the "if I end up in the box and my blood will be on your hands thing worked pretty good along with dh telling them the dr. said I must remain calm or I wil start to bleed again too worked.

Now for the medical update. Um, where to start. Up until this Thursday, surgeon #2 is coverning for surgeon #1, except tomm. where dr. #3 will be on. The rainbow that greeted you represents the red to yellow stuff, its still red, but DRUMROLL, My drain is less than 30, so really it could come out tomm. but I dont want dr. #3 doing it since his specialty is ears. So on thurs. we will go to the hospital and surgeon #2 will take it out, he is so new he doesnt have an office, or I should say they arent sharing theirs with him at present. followed by a lovely visit with the radiation oncologist.

Yest. I also went to the endocronologist. She said my blood work is good, and she saw all the obvious pain I was in. Yeah, I told her its like a constant 8. She then went over the biopsy stuff with us. The NP did it with me over the phone but she really went into detail with us. They took out 47 lymph nodes, gheesh, why wonder my neck HURTS!!. They found cancer in 6 of them which she said is a really good count. The agressive means it went to the lymph nodes and the rare is still something they cant explain, oh yes, leave the constant rare stuff to me as usual. It appears something like part of the tumor broke off, went to the lymph node or made another tumor of cancer in and amongst itself?? No one is quite sure about this. etc. etc. They say its highly unusual etc. Well we will see what insight the rad onc. has on thurs.

DS 17 is off for the week so I will have someone around.

The surgeon said I need to get out more, so we went to the outback for a little late celebration of dh b day. I covered everything up with a turtleneck and sweater (Hmm- Visions of Alice now Dance in My Head :rotfl2: ). I didnt want to scare anyone while they were eating. It was too much of a long day. At the end of the meal I was practically crying in pain. We hightailed it home and dh got me the oxy. Didnt sleep well, so I am exhaused, hmm, maybe I will share my next bizarre dreams with you tomm. !! Stay tuned!!

Have a great day everyone!!

Sorry I missed hangin' out with you!:lmao:
Hubby got home Sun. afternoon. Does appear to be inflammation around his heart. He's taking megadoses of ibuprofen. He's feeling much better and went back to work today. My colonoscopy is scheduled for March 5. Thinking of you all and pray all are well...:grouphug:

I think "How's it hangin', Alice?" is going to be a new saying of mine. I absolutely love it. ;)

Glad your DH is home and you've got your procedure scheduled, Laura.

LMP, glad you got out for a bit. That's a lot of lymph nodes, but the number involved does sound good. Hang in there.

No word yet from my cousin. I think they were going to the doctor today. But they may not know much more than they did over the weekend yet.

One of the schools DD is hoping to attend is Oklahoma City University. They were at her high school today. The rep knew DD's name, winked and told her a letter was on it's way to our door. Then she proceeded to explain how DD could stack their scholarships. So we're hoping that means she may qualify for one or more. It certainly sounded like the was accepted. She's smiling tonight. We're still waiting to hear back from OU, too.

LVP, I sure hope they pull your drain on Thursday. I know how hard living with drains can be. I can tell you a horror story about a leaky drain bulb in Wal Mart, but it really isn't a fun story. I like your vivid dreams much better. Britney Spears, who knew she was such a great chaufure or is that chaufeusse?:confused3 Did she serenade you?

I agree with Merry, 47 lymph nodes sounds like a record to me. Good that they were thorough, but my that was a lot of tissue disturbed. As you said no wonder the pain is a constant 8.

It is good that you went out to eat, sorry you got overtired before you got home. Pain is hard to keep ahead of unless you watch the clock like a hawk.

Good luck on Thursday.

Thanks for posting, Laura, about your DH. It sounds like he is on the mend, thank GOD.

Is your surgery scheduled on the same day as the colonoscopy?

Merry, keep us in the loop about your cousin's daughter when you hear anything. How neat for your daughter to be recognized that way, as they should do especially for a National Merit semifinalist. Think of the kids who struggle so. I talked to a sista today at a support meeting (I had mom in tow as well) and she said her daughter scored a 19 on the ACT. Not enough for any kind of scholarship.
Hopefully, she will have more luck with the SAT.

My DD18 now has two jobs, waitressing at a casual restaurant very close to Tulane and tutoring high school kids. I hope she keeps her grades up with all this activity. Actually, I realize the busier the better as she needs to be pushed to manage her time well. This should do it. She is motivated to pool her resources for a spring break trip to New York which DH refuses to pay for.

What an everlasting meanie.

GAGWTA!!

Hi everyone. I have had a rough week. First, my dad had his surgery and he does have bladder cancer. We won't know for three days if it is invasive or hopefully not. He has quite a severe heart condition so any potential cancer treatment will be difficult for him. I am praying.

And I was scheduled for my final plastic surgery when the surgeon noticed a lump in my scarline. I had to go to the other surgeon and he thinks it is simply scar tissue BUT they have to reschedule my surgery from a surgical out patient center to a hospital so they can biopsy the lump. I just can't catch a break. He said he is 99% sure its nothing. I am so exhausted. I spent the night at my dad's to make sure he was okay and then ran around all day, so I am really ready to sleep.

GAGWTA and say a prayer for my wonderful dad tonight.

I was just thinking of you, Maureen after I ran across a pm you sent shortly before our January meetup at EPCOT.

I will pray for your dad and for you that your scare is just scar tissue as they suspect. It does not make it any easier does it?

Take care of the caretaker, dear. . . YOU!

Maureen  Keeping you both in my prayers. Uggh. You poor thing.

Merry, keeping my fingers crossed for your DD! :shamrock:

lmp, wow, you are doing a spectacular job keeping up with all of this. Continue to hang in there!

I am still a little :scratchin over my new tag. What about you, Alice? :rotfl:

My DH had another steroid injection today. I hope it works to cure his pain and numbness this time. :worried:

GAGWTA :flower3:

:cheer2: ~~~***GAGWTA sistas***~~~:cheer2:

I can't believe how many of us have family going through tough times with their health too...:grouphug:

Maureen- I am so, so sorry to hear your dad has cancer.:sad1: My heart aches for the pain you must be feeling. I don't know anything about bladder cancer, but there are so many different treatment options I'm sure they can find something to suit your dad and spare his heart. I also had a lump in my scar. I had to do a core needle biopsy to find out it was B9 scar tissue. HANG IN THERE GAGWTA SISTA!:goodvibes You both are in my prayers.

Melissa- Have you heard any news about your cousin? Glad your dd is getting some good news in the midst of this...

Linda- Those steroid shots can work miracles. I hope he is feeling the effects soon.

Laurie- I'm only getting the colonoscopy that day. I haven't met with the surgeon yet. I don't know if he will be there during the procedure, but my GI doc was cc'ing him our emails.

Maryann- Your dreams are quite telling...wow! I like your surgeon's rx!:thumbsup2

Dd told me Hadassah came to her school yesterday to present a breast cancer awareness program for junior and senior girls. She was able to attend as a sophomore because the class she was in was mostly juniors and seniors. I almost presented this myself once, years ago, but one of my kids was sick and I had to bow out. A survivor tells their story and they give out info. My dd was telling me all the parallels between this woman's story and mine. She was dxed just a couple of years ago at age 35 and her kids were 4 at the time. How this survivor's kids learned to do things for themselves at an early age, about her treatment, scars, how her kids handled the wig...how as a daughter of a young survivor she will need to be screened at a younger age. They even gave the girls little gel breasts with the lumps in them. Her classmate said, "You know a lot about BC." and my dd proudly told her "My mom is a survivor!":cheer2: :goodvibes
:grouphug:

The story about your DD really touched me this morning, Laura.

Your DD is proud of you and she should be!

Thanks Laurie... it's nice when our kids notice us!:goodvibes The program gave good info on SBE too. I told her she really needs to be comfortable with her body and know what's normal for her...and not obsess about it.

Got a call from the surgeon's office, while standing in the checkout line in Target. :rolleyes1 I see him for the consult on 3/2. I'm trying to give myself pep talks about what a good thing this is while feeling sick to my stomach about it...

Now, onto my Disney therapy...hubby turns the Big 5-0 this year! I got an email pin for free dining, his birthday falls on Rosh Hashanah and the kids are off that day...it's also the first weekend of the F&W festival, and to top it off Airtran has $54 airfare that weekend, so I booked it! Now we're going in June and Sept. Good thing I have 0% financing on my Disney Visa!

Sending prayers and hugs out for Maureen's dad, Katie, Laura'sDH, LMP of course, and all others going through challenges.

I love it but GAGWTA girls still warms my cockles.
hahahaa -that one struck me funny too, Laurie :rotfl:

Laura- I am proud of your DD too :cloud9: ANd congrats on the trip!!:woohoo:

JSG--congrats to your mom on the end of her rads!! I remember the end of mine...the techs gave me a little certificate and I gave them candy treats :)

It's snowing again here this morning...so I am headed out to another adventurous trek to work....
