DIS Book Club Suggestions

there is a great buzz about who will play the leads in the "soon to begin" filming of the American version of the movie.
it would seem that Daniel Craig has a good shot at the male lead.....the female lead has been described as "the role every actress in hollywood would kill for" if you want to know the ""look" just Google the swedish movie poster, the girl in that version got it right and by all accounts did a very fine job.

LOL my tastes run in the historical romance smut genre, but I did just read "House Rules" bc my mom gave it to me (I've been teaching autistic kids for 16 years!) and I really loved it. Was sorry to miss the book club discussion on it. Due to my usual smut book interests, the book sat in my living room for 3 months - but it was awesome! I'd def be open to expanding my horizons as well! :thumbsup2

Oh!!! I love historicals too. :rolleyes1

LOL they are so addicting! :rotfl: It's basically the same exact story over and over - but I can't help myself! Just requested the new Johanna Lindsey and Lisa Kleypas books from the library! Hoping they come in soon!! :thumbsup2

Yay! Other historical romance fans! I am a big fan of Philippa Gregory, Elizabeth Chadwick and Julia Quinn, but I am always open to suggestions!

I agree, the storylines are often very similar, but I can't seem to stop myself either! :lmao:

I love books here is the list of the best I read lately:

-A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick

-Little Bee by Chris Cleave

-Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

-The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen

-Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda

There are so many more also I agree with Water For Elephants as well as the Art of Racing in the Rain both great books!

I will keep a look out for the book you choose, if it is one I havent read maybe I will join in too :goodvibes

"Secret Life of Bees" - doesn't have to be the next book club book, but people who liked "The Help" might like to read it on their own.

My parents both just read Little Bee by Chris Cleeve and they don't want to ruin anything for me, but they have said it's a must read.

I read it and honestly didn't care for it. Maybe if I had known what to expect I would've liked it better. It was just okay...there are a lot of *much* better reads out this year.

Sarah's Key
The Help
Gods in Alabama
Bad Things Happen
The Little Giant of Aberdeen County

if i may be allowed to interject a male point of view into the mix, i am a voracious reader and although i am not a member of your club, i would like to recommend.........The Passage by Justin Cronin or The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by the late Stieg Larsson. the former is an end of the world as we know it story that almost reaches epic status and the latter is a gritty and sometimes shocking murder mystery with unforgettable characters.

GREAT-GREAT-GREAT read!
