DIS Book Club Suggestions

if i may be allowed to interject a male point of view into the mix, i am a voracious reader and although i am not a member of your club, i would like to recommend.........The Passage by Justin Cronin or The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by the late Stieg Larsson. the former is an end of the world as we know it story that almost reaches epic status and the latter is a gritty and sometimes shocking murder mystery with unforgettable characters.

I have The Passage on my iPad, haven't started it yet - looks like it's going to be good. Finished all The Girl books - loved them.

The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake - also sounds interested, I'm downloading it now.

Looking forward to seeing what the new selection is. I'm not sure anything I would normally read would appeal to very many here... That's part of the reason I'm interested in taking part though; get me to look at something I'd normally overlook.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo looks interesting. The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake sounds interesting, too. And makes me want cake.

I had gotten a free book by rescuing it from the cart corral area from a Costco parking lot. I was bringing my cart to the corral and pushed my cart into the next cart and noticed the cart wasn't stacking properly. Someone had left their hardcover book on a cart, so I rescued it from certain damage from the thunderstorm passing through.

The book is Private by James Patterson. About an investigation agency.

What if I told you I was reading The Key Lime Pie Murder? :rotfl2:

The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake sounds interesting, and it's the right price on the Kindle! :)

Since I only made it to the "eat" part, I vote for Eat, Pray, Love. It might be nice to finish it, although I must warn you that book brought out my snarkiness factor quite a bit.

Now I am foot loose and fancy free, I would like to join.

Can I suggest Ellis Island by Katie Kerrigan, I haven't read it yet, but it has great reviews:

Ellie loves living in New York, working as a lady's maid for a wealthy socialite. She wants her husband, John, to join her but he is caught up in the Irish Civil War.

Nevertheless Ellie is extremely happy and fully embraces her sophisticated new life. When her father dies she must return home to Ireland, but she intends to sort her affairs quickly and then return to her beloved America.

But once she arrives home her sense of duty kicks in and she decides, painfully, that she must stay to look after her mother and resume her marriage. Ellie is suddenly thrown back into the simple, rural life she believed she had grown out of...

I'm interested in joining. I'll try pretty much anything that was suggested.
I've been wanting to read Wolf Hall - it's been recommended by my boss and my favorite non-DIS podcast. I'm scanning Amazon for ideas, and I came across Brooklyn: A Novel, which I vaguely remember someone recommending to me as well.
(I just realized I'm not sure what you've already read in the book club, so maybe these are redundant...)

They are not redundant. The first book was The Help, followed by House Rules and Wild Ride. I only read House Rules, definitely recommend it.

Yea it was. That was around the time I stopped lurking,so I forgot about it. Lol.

Can anybody join in?

I second Eat, Pray, Love it's on my list!

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larson, are at the top of every best seller's list around the world.

Enetertainment Weekly recently described them as a phenomenon.

They should be available almost everywhere at a reduced price.

Mr. Larson wrote these books , called the Millennium Trilogy, and passed away from a heart attack prior to the first one being published.

There is a rumor that his girlfriend has his laptop which contains a fourth unpublished Girl book.

The Swedish version of The Gorl With the Dragon Tattoo has just been released on video and there is a great buzz about who will play the leads in the "soon to begin" filming of the American version of the movie.

This might be a great selection that would appeal to a wide variety of readers.

Folks in every country around the world have made these "the" book to read for the last few months.

Deb and I just started reading The Passage by Justin Cronin. I'm hooked. :hyper:

Of course you are welcome. All are. I'm hoping to post the next selection soon. I have it narrowed down to two and am just trying to decide which would appeal to a larger audience. :)

I will jump in. My tastes tend to run in the paranormal smut genre, so I think it would be a good idea for me to expand my reading horizons a bit. I have no suggestions at this time, but might after I hit the bookstore today.

LOL my tastes run in the historical romance smut genre, but I did just read "House Rules" bc my mom gave it to me (I've been teaching autistic kids for 16 years!) and I really loved it. Was sorry to miss the book club discussion on it. Due to my usual smut book interests, the book sat in my living room for 3 months - but it was awesome! I'd def be open to expanding my horizons as well! :thumbsup2
