Dirt/Unclean Villa!!!!!

Posts like the original one in this thread actually sour me on coming to this site sometimes. It was clearly a mistake. Disney did not intend for you to stay in the room. If they had cleaned it and done so poorly, then there is a gripe. In this case, it can be chalked up to "mistakes happen."

When we were at BWV a few weeks ago, we were given the key to our room. The door didn't open. Suddenly, after a minute of trying, an old guy who appeared to be in his underwear opened the door......We went back down to the main desk and the girl realized that she had assigned me the wrong room. Simple mistake --- quickly cleared up.

I think people - myself included - expect everything to be absolutely perfect at Disney. It is more perfect than real life, but not 100% perfect by any means. The best part about it, in my opinion, is that the staff usually does anything they can to rectify any problem. That's all you can ask.

That happened to us once at OKW. We were assigned to a studio, drove to it, and it had not been clean. Drove back to Hospitality house, were assigned another studio, and they said someone would drive over there in a golf cart to make sure all was well. We got to the second assigned studio and again, it wasn't cleaned. The golf cart cast member was very apologetic, called it in to the front desk manager, and asked us to go back to HH. We did, the manager met us in the lobby, apologized, gave us another room assigment which he assured us was fine, and also gave us a resort credit on our account. We appreciated the effort they went to and didn't feel the need to complain later. And, we love OKW.

Last stay at OKW got to the room just as the mousekeeper was getting ready to enter it - not cleaned - would be another 3 hours - went back to HH front desk and they assigned us another room. CM even went out of her way to try and find one that met my original requests. I told her just near a pool would be great and forget the upper floor and we were good to go.

Yep, just go to the front desk, ask for the on duty Manager, explain the situation.

One of two things will happen, they will find you another room that is ready and clean.

If that is not possible, they will do a special clean, inspected by a manager which gives you a very clean room and usually comp you something sometimes if you have been pleasant about it, a free meal, etc.

Not sure about the beds in this case, but couldn't it also have been a case of the room being cleaned, then the previous guests coming back? I thought the old keys continue working until midnite, not 11:00am. Or does issuing new keys automatically inactivate keys of the previous guest?

I think the complaint should be immediately done at the resort however I also agree with following up with Member Satisfaction. Without knowledge that resorts are having problems with room readiness notifcations there might not ever be any changes and DVC will pronounce all is well when the process might need some major revamping.

so sorry for the bad first impression. [ i hope they made it
up ( the room too) in a disney special kind of way.

this would bother me too. not disney or the mistake. that can
happen anytime, @ or any resort. instead it was the conditions you
mentioned that is so bothersome. what kind of dvc guests
left the room is such a poor condition?! especially the bathroom-
had a "passive & aggressive" message all over it. { if i had rented
my points & discovered that the renters did something liked this,
they would never rent from us again } guess they didn't leave
any tips. if it was done by owners, my first guess would be from
a different resort with envy, or an anger issue over something
else. either way, sure hope they never stay near us.

i don't know for sure, but i think the workers talk to their managers
about the things the guests are doing. during our stay , i spent
time speaking with the workers & were amazed some of the damages/
stealing being done. they also insisted they were reporting every
thing.

i read how some felt offended with the deevee character mentioning
something about taking a lamp. wonder where that idea came from?

where ever, these sources are coming from, i would like to see disney
holding those abusing dvc property be held responsible. not just
those smoking in the room but across the boards. it is also a
worry that there are such "guests" staying @ dvc.

I agree in some DVC infomercials they have kids jumping on the beds. It absolutely ruins the mattress. I really do not think DVC should encourage destructive behavior.

Exactly! The original post was very inflamatory, but once we all saw that it was simply a room that didn't get made up, we could decide for ourselves that the original comment was what it was, and we could move on our way. I really hate that someone would post something like this when it was clearly something they could have easily settled by just going to the front desk and explaining that there was a mistake.

:thumbsup2 I so agree.

I definitely agree with this. Who wants to deal with the hassle of going back to check-in, waiting in line again, getting a new room, etc.? They should get it right the first time.

I guess I'm confused as to how those pictures show that someone abused the room. Beds look slept in and we always end up with pillows on the floor next to the bed. I generally leave the dirty towels in a pile. I know I'm in the minority in that I don't clean up my villa by making the beds, hanging up the towels, etc. I wasn't aware that made me passive agressive or that I was abusing the room by not doing more cleaning on vacation than I do on a daily basis at home. Guess we're just slobs that don't deserve DVC.

I didn't know guests were supposed to clean the rooms before they leave. I know some people wash the towels for themselves to reuse, but I would think at the end of your stay the towels would need to be professionally laundered. Where else should you leave them besides in a pile on the floor? Even when staying at hotels I always leave them in a pile instead of scattered all over. Hanging dirty towels up doesn't seem like the right thing to do. I do think all trash should be picked up & of course leaving a toilet not flushed is disgusting. Other than that the room looks the way most people would leave it. Maybe the post about abusing the room was a joke...it's hard to tell anymore when someone's being serious or not. If they're serious, I guess we're slobs too.

Just like you are able to do everything perfectly everytime? Wow, you must be amazing.;)

Just last XMAS week we checked into a 1BR at BCV, it was clean and nice-but within 5 minutes the door opened and a new family walked in-they had checked them into that room as well. Not even sure what my point is, I guess that the room ready list needs some work.

Mistakes happen, we all would like for things to be perfect but that's not reality. However, if there are issues as the poster mentions then we have every right to expect for them to be fixed/resolved within a reasonable amount of time.

In my 12 years of ownership Iv'e had only two issues:

Door keys would not work- A bit Irritating, yes. It was later in the evening, I had my 4 year old with me, we're both tired. Went to the lobby, got new keys, they apologized, all good.

Room with luggage in it and it wasn't mine-Surprised, yes. I looked to make sure I had the right room, it appeared clean. Went back to lobby, explained. They gave me a new room and off I went. Returned later that night, had a message that there was a package for me at the desk. It was a complimentary Disney basket, apologizing for the incovenience. It was nice, not necessary but nice.

During both instances I never got upset, I didn't ask for compensation. I understood that these mistakes were not intentional, I had been quickly helped, and no harm done.

I don't think you are in the minority here. We always leave the bed unmade, including the sofa bed if it has been used so they know to put clean linens in the room for it. I usually leave the dirty towels on the counter by the sink or on the jacuzzi tub ledge if in a 1 or 2 bedroom villa so that the person cleaning doesn't have to pick them up off the floor. That is just me who has had numerous back problems and finds picking up stuff from that level can be a pain in the back literally. If there are spills or major messes I will clean them up but don't vacuum and dust while there. We also leave the dirty dishes in the dishwasher with it running when we leave the last day.

This is exactly what I do. My pillows are off of the bed, just as in the picture, because the bed is not made. Clearly a mistake. I have never (knock on wood) checked into a dirty room at Disney.

That totally stinks - we just checked into our 1 BR at OKW this afternoon and are having some issues as well. Got in the room and the fridge was warm inside. We figured it was turned up as housekeeping does. Turned it to the coldest setting, loaded our food and went to MK. Came back - the fridge was still WARM! Yuck - my milk's in there! Called housekeeping/maintenance. In the meantime, went to make the sleeper sofa and chair. No sheets for the chair, only the sofa. Opened them both up and gross - crumbs and all kinds of nastiness. Had to get out the vacuum and literally drag that big vacuum across the mattresses of both.

1 1/2 hours later and still waiting for maintenance to come and take care of our fridge. NOT HAPPY.

I think in this case I would be at the front desk asking for a manager as well just to let them know the issues. We always leave the sleeper sofa open when we use it on the day we leave. That way at least there is some expectation that the sheets will be replaced and that they will clean it if needed. If it is closed up mousekeeping probably does not even look at it.
It sounds as if neither of these things were done.

Good luck and hope the rest of your stay is magical and that they take care of the refrigerator before the food can spoil.
