a while ago I switched to DTV. I'm very happy with it. However, my special offer is about to expire. Does anybody have any idea about special offers for existing customers?

generally there arent any....

the offers up front are to entice you to sign up....once the original offer term is up, then you are pretty much out of luck.

If you call and ask them though, they might make you some sort of deal.

For example, I called on Thursday and they ended up paying me $5 to take the Mega March Madness package instead of paying the regular price of $70...so it doesnt hurt to call up and ask nicely for something!!

just call as if you are cancelling the package - I think the most recent offer I got was $10 off per month for 12 months and 6 mos of showtime/starz

more than likely they are still under their 1st 2 year contract....cancelling isnt a realistic option.

Even the cable companies are getting wise to the consumer tactic of threatening to switch, just to get a discount. The cable companies do tend to extend some offer once or twice, but after that, increasingly, they're saying, "Go ahead and switch," knowing that just as many of their competitors' customers are playing the same game with their competitors, and will therefore be heading back their way, leaving the additional revenue that they make from those customers who in the end don't really switch as additional revenue, enjoyed by both competitors in their own respective measures.

One thing that the cable companies are doing is giving you discounts whenever you add more services, i.e., adding on telephone service. I don't know if DTV does that, and don't even know how many layers of service additions DTV has. They don't offer telephone service, for example, so there isn't much for you to add, I suppose.

my parents have directv my mom calls them about every three months to see what they can get for a discount. its usually showtime or starz for 5 dollars a month for three months. than when she is cancelling it after the three months than she sees what other thing she can get.

Yes, and you'll see that from the other suppliers as well. I've noted that HBO is no longer discounted like that anymore (even though, arguably, Showtime is as good as, if not better than, HBO, for many things).

When my discount was ready to expire, and I called DISH and was transferred to the retention dept. I knew then I was not the 1st to ask about other discounts.

They gave me the same rate for another year.
