I saw the news that they are testing just texting people who do online check in their room number and allowing them to bypass the check in desk at the hotel completely. It says that it is not known at this time if this option will be available at the Fort. I'm wondering what the chances of this happening at the Fort are- anyone want to speculate? It would be awesome to be able to drive directly to our site without having to stop! If they are doing it at all the other Disney resorts I'm wondering why the Fort wasn't included? Anybody have any idea what the reason would be?

1) There have been discussions and they will give it a trial for cabins, but sites are unknown at the moment.
2) Campsites are different than a hotel room.
3) Not quite the same as changing sheets and pillow cases.
. . . chasing the campsite resident squirrels is rougher than in most of the hotel rooms
. . . straightening sand in the pits is tougher than straightening rugs and mats
. . . ridding the site of ants is significantly worse than ridding rooms of aunts
. . . spraying air freshener is arduous compared to a spritz-or-two in the rooms
4) PLUS, how could you stand NOT to get that friendly "Howdy" when you check

My guess as to why they wouldn't do it is that:

1) unless you are someone that has been there several times, directions to your site can avoid problems
2) Maybe it allows them to ensure your equipment will fit/is appropriate for the site they give you. I can imagine someone with a small class C trying to squeeze into a tent site just to save a few bucks.

I've always liked the check in process at the Fort. The cast members usually get my kids (and us) all hyped up and even more excited than they already are. Our last CM at check in asked the kids who their favorite characters were and then told us the best places to see them. I thought it was a nice touch.

Yeah I understand all those points. What I am thinking of is having my kids in their carseats for a 15 hour drive, then taking them out of their carseats to go in and check in and the fit they will have to get back in their carseats for the drive to the campsite. But we'll just deal with it, and once they are old enough to not need carseats it won't be nearly as big of a deal getting them in and out.

We drive 16 hours with two still in car seats. Check in at FW takes a bit longer cause there often is so much to go over. Check in has checkers table, tv with kid chairs, penny machine, ladies handing out stickers, etc. My kids love it!

Speed limit is 20 at FW and the drive is often just around a couple bends in the road and you will likely be going around 10 anyway cause a golf cart is most likely in front of you. I'm not telling you what to do with your children but I don't strap mine back into their seats after we left check in. This time they were in the golf cart directly after check in but not the past two trips.

The magic begins at the check-in building (Outpost)! It feels like a mountain getaway in the Smokey Mtns when you walk in. The kids will enjoy getting to explore a little. We've made a few trips to different resorts on-property at Disney. They all have a kids' reception area with Disney TV playing. I look forward that check-in because it gets our minds off the stressful drive and into Disney Magic!
