Direct purchase Poly or VDH dilemma

Cries out of Sea-tac. We’re Literally waiting on our overpriced AS red eye flight to Orlando at the moment.

I’ve been a loyal atmos elite but yeah the prices on Delta especially might be enough for me to switch for non business related travel.
They have gotten way to aggressive with their dynamic pricing, the companion fare warps ticket prices, and they have made the regular seats UNBEARABLE to charge outrageous amounts to have a little legroom.

Also, the “saver” fares are ridiculous with a family because you can’t pick your seats.

Let’s move this discussion back to DVC please.
Well… IMO flying costs/times to FL vs CA from the West Coast are pretty darn relevant to DVC if someone is considering purchasing a home resort that is CA based or FL based…

The OP stated they are from the PacNW… as are many of us that chimed in about our recent Seattle and Portland airline experiences.

Well…the topic of the thread is not about flights…plus we have a Transportation board that people can discuss this.

People can be real mean to us DVC folk on other areas of the boards I have noticed.

Based on my recent interaction I would expect to be treated like "why do you care how much your flight is, since you can afford DVC cant you afford any flight"

I understand but this is simply not the topic of the thread so it was time to shift it back to discussion.

Now, someone wants to open a new thread to discuss transportion as it relates to DVC. That is fine.

I still think it applies when comparing whether to purchase a DVC home resort in FL or CA for a PacNW based member.

I've driven up to SeaTac for a cheaper flight before once... and only once. That was miserable driving home after that long flight so we decided never again and will only fly out of our local airport PDX

Sorry Sandi, was replying before I saw your responses. Will table the flight discussion.

ANYWAYSSSS @juliebee which way are you leaning? I think you said you would consider both Poly and VDH down the line if you sold BRV. My personal recommendation would be to buy Poly knowing you're going to buy VDH later. I think Polys going to sell out faster than VDH is. But if you're going to pick one vs. the other I'd go with VDH to guarantee your DL trips and try and 7 month your way into the tower

It's like Captain Jack Sparrow's compass with this decision.... the compass spinning erratically because I can't come up with what I want the MOST. Like, I want it all 🤣 . I think we are leaning towards Poly (my husband keeps saying "when we get the Poly contract...") but I think there are strong reasons to buy VDH. I want to give myself another couple weeks and then make a commitment.

I do agree that Poly will probably sell out before VDH, so if we are getting two contracts than this one might be better to do Poly.

However, if we are getting two contracts, maybe this one should be VDH and then look at LSL for the next contract. At that point, we'd probably sell BRV as I imagine the vibe will be similar.

So the compass still spins... so feel free to weigh in. Maybe something will help the compass to point one clear direction.

Studios VDH vs Poly Tower ^

Might be something to consider along with everything else: Booking home resort at 11 months is much more reliable for booking standard view than at 7 months. Whichever one ends up not being your home resort, booking it at 7 months is likely going to mean you rarely if ever get standard view.

In VDH’s case there’s just one other view category and it’s mostly a 3 point jump.

In PIT’s case it’s a 3, 4, or 5 (and even 7*) point jump for preferred, and 8-12 point jump for TPV.

If you’re hoping to use the majority of these new points at PIT, being able to book standard view occasionally should help to conserve points.

that is a good point. Your comment made me study the point chart a little more closely for our preferred travel periods and they are pretty closely matched for PIT and VDH with most times being one point per night different. One exception is Early-Mid May does have an advantage for VDH with being 2-4 points cheaper a night.

I do prefer standard view at both-- I'm not really a sit and look out the window person-- so pointing out the jump to a preferred room is much more significant at Poly is a great point and one I'll need to consider for sure. If standard rooms are gobbled up before the 7 month window, I need to plan for enough points for the preferred view if needed at either resort.
