Direct Purchase - August UY

If I was to purchase an add on with an August UY at this point, I assume the 2015 points should not be included. Could they if they wanted to as if they had been banked into 2016.

For someone looking to purchase an add on direct, is there any financial benefit to wait to purchase until the month prior to your UY (ME)? I believe I have read that these points would be bankable even though they are passed the 8 month mark. Is this true?

We brought about the 5th of August 2012 and we got 2011 points which they immediately banked into 2012.

They told us it was unusual and wouldn't happen in future.

I think normally you would only get 2016 points forward but you might be lucky

Not sure that Disney would give you last year's points since it is already Aug but yes they will bank the points into the next use year beyond the 8 month window unless the policy has recently changed. We have a 25 point direct contract we bought in Feb 2015 and got the April 2014 points included and banked into 2015. The "advantage" to waiting until right before your UY starts (if you don't need the points sooner) is that you get the points from the current use year that is about to end but only pay MF based on how many months of the current calendar year are left. So if you buy on July 31st 2017 you'd get the full aug 2016 UY points and aug 2017 UY points and only pay MF from July 31-Dec 31 2017. That of course assumes Disney has the points avail to purchase direct that match your UY and desired resort in July 2017. Sometimes you have to wait a while so you may not want to wait that long.

I would use this as a negotiating tactic.
For example, "Is it too late to get the 2015 points? If they are still available, I am ready to buy today."

Since its a real estate transaction I would deffintly try and ask for the points from last UY.

If they say sorry "no can't do" then you always has the option to say "sorry then I wont buy" or to wait.

If they say no to 2015 points, I would wait until jan 2017 and then buy. This way you are not going to pay any MF for 2016 only 2017. If you buy in say september 2016 you pay the mf for 2016 pro rated. This ofc only works if you dont plan to use those points before jan 2017.

What resort? If you want to purchase a sold-out resort, it's virtually certain that you will not get 2015 points. If you wait to purchase, you may not get the opportunity. Remember, DVD has to have the inventory to offer you points, and for some resorts and use years, those are in very short supply.

In most cases (all but new resorts not yet open or similar situations), you'll get the current UY points even if there's only one day left and you can bank those the last day. I've never seen them give old points though sometimes they give extra points that are only good at the 7 month window. I've only seen this when it was an incentive, not in just negotiation.

I agree, they need to have the inventory to be able to sell it to you. If it's a sold out resort you might need to accept what they either have right now or wait and see if something else comes along.

Once you pass into a UY, the typical situation gives only that UY points. So, since 2016 Aug UY has begun, I think it'd be highly unlikely that you would get 2015 points. When I added on years back, I purposely did so in late Spring for my June UY so I get those "extra" points...technically not extra, I know...transferred them to someone else, and used the sale to effectively lower my price per point on the add on by $12/pp. If I were to ever add on again, I would do the same thing.
