Did anyone notice the direct price increases that popped up today?

CCV: $240
BRV: $205
BLT: $265
AKV: $200
BCV: $265
BWV: $230
OKW: $200
SSR: $200
PVB: $250

At $205 for BRV, I'm not feeling too confident about my $120 PP contract that's in ROFR right now...

I know OKW and SSR have been at $200 for a bit. I don’t check direct prices too often.

I do not think we can ever truly figure out motives. But, the higher so,d out resorts are, the easier it is to sell active resorts, which might be the reason and they figured no sense announcing this time. .

With BCV having ~20 years left on the contract they might as well be saying "Stop buying this! Stop it!" and people are basically like "No!!!!!"

Haven't looked recently but how many points are they selling direct? Like 2k? Yes there is a couple people buying but in reality there will always be a few people with tons of money who want the easiest way to add points.

EDIT: Just looked it was 865 points for May on 9 total contracts.

Wow I didn’t realize the direct prices were up again! This time last year I almost purchased SSR direct at 165. Only way I’d buy direct now is if I wanted RR, and I think that’s what they are trying to do here. Resale for the older properties.

I've always thought that most of the direct points sold at sold out resorts went to existing members looking to add on. If someone wants to add on 50 points at BCV they are not going to find that on the resale market, so have little choice other than buying direct.

It's unfortunate that DVD has to price gouge the membership. But they know they have something you want and are not going to let you have it for a reasonable price.

What do you mean reasonable? Also it isn't price gouging. No one needs DVC. If you don't like the price don't buy. If I list my house for $3m is that price gouging?

Usually there is some heads up. This is crazy to me.
I think the OKW and SSR price increase was also unannounced, took some sleuthing from people here/guides unofficially telling people a day before for us to find out. Hopefully this isn’t a trend going forward!

I think it would be more reasonable if the current attitude toward Disney in general wasn't to give us "less for more money". At this point, any price increase is going to tick a lot of people off. And so far, Disney doesn't seem to care about that.

What do you mean by the words "care"? It is a private corporation. All of the pricing is determined by some MBA running financial calculation. Not sure why anyone would expect anything differently. Our own government in Washington State does the same thing when determining how much to charge you to drive down the freeway. Sure they are some lanes where you can pay in time rather than money but the days of those lanes are numbered.

Probably most do, but we bought into VGF direct offsale because that was the only resort we wanted and didn't want to jockey about doing the ROFR tango.

So, yeah, we represent your user name question.

So...You are comparing Disney to a state government??? That's an apple-to-oranges comparison if I've ever heard one.

Posters here think Disney should operate like a charity and I am pointing out that public governments don't even operate like that. Our government gives better services to those who are willing to pay more.

Was wondering what the solution would be if Disney wasn't allowed to manage their own pricing - everyone setting their own price based on what they think is fair for Disney to charge?

Exactly. Can you imagine the crowding and sell outs if Disney charged less? Maybe they think that Disney should charge based on your ability to pay.

To be fair, some are bothered by the change in the way Disney operates and that is okay.

But I agree with you that people should realize that they make the decisions they do because they can and being a for profit business, the goal is making money and that includes pushing the limit to as far as it can until it backfires.

I can’t control Disney and what they do so for me, it makes no sense to be bothered by it.

What I can do is make different choices to overcome the changes. I have my owners locker which means I am spending less on adult drinks. I do less rides because I won’t pay for GP+ unless I’m with others who want to…and if I am ever without an AP?

Then I will pay for the multi day tickets and no longer do any TS meals if need be.

And, it doesn’t make me a Disney apologist either. It just means I get why they do what they do.

I still am the one who gets to decide how to adjust my time spent there, and how much of my money I spend, not them.

I agree that Disney should be allowed to raise prices as they need/want. My company certainly has recently. But my point was that patrons would be a lot less likely to accuse Disney of "price gouging", like the previous PP did, if the current sentiment towards Disney was more positive.
