Direct Plus Inc? Money Saver

Has anyone heard of or is a member of Direct Plus? Casual friends mentioned after they bought their house they joined Direct Plus Inc (In Indianapolis) for a year so as to buy furniture and carpet among many other items offered for much less than buying retail. They said they paid manufacturer prices plus 15%. They compared one item of furniture that a relative had bought for $700 and they paid $500......identical item. They mentioned cost for a year was around $150-175 but was lower the second year. And if you found an item at a participating manufacturer that qualified you could get that one item at a one time only discount without joining.

Anyone belong? Or know where to find more information? This sounds like a great idea for when we buy a house.

I've never heard of this company but I am always leary of high yearly membership costs. For example if they didn't buy anything other then the couch then they actually only saved $50 or so. Maybe if they were purchasing several large items it may work out to an advantage. It really depends on if the products are actually the same quality or not. I would probably not join only becuase I don't trust them.

Also, be careful of any company who only allows you to purchase these products from them. They could be factory seconds and that would void warranty. Also, any place that uses words like ..." if you found an item at a participating manufacturer that qualified...." What is their definition of "qualified"? Is there a contract or is this a year to year membership? PLEASE read the fine print.
