If all of your points were purchased direct and you add on via resale is there any kind of loss of perks? Does it change your membership in any way? Been out of the loop for a couple of years.

technically:

your resale pts would not be eligible for certain trades out of the DVC system for cruises, adventures by Disney or those sorts of things. (you can still trade resale pts through RCI for other timeshares.)

the trading options you lose tend to be very expensive, so most of us don't consider it a loss.

(if you sold your direct pts and only kept your resale contract, you would lose things like the ability to purchase a gold AP and access to the member's cruise (membership extras).

You wouldn't lose perks currently but wouldn't gain additional options to use the resale points such as DCL and they likely wouldn't count toward any possible VIP system.

It does not change your membership in any way.
We do not use our points for Cruises or Hotel Rooms but if we did, we would have to keep track of which points are eligible for these.

Is a VIP system rumored to be coming?

I don't think anything is imminent and I doubt it happens. It's more speculation than rumor at this point. IMO it makes/made sense for DVC to have a VIP system but given how far they are into this without one, it becomes more and more problematic by the day.

I think adding a VIP system is pretty easy, just look at the airline industry for some ideas. Not that I am in favor of a VIP system, but Disney will need something to justify a $185pp+ cost vs resale prices.

With ARDA and connections to other timeshares with a VIP system, they don't have to look that far. As for justifying the price, they're selling at $176 a point leaving a lot of stones unturned. Besides, people said the same about selling at $150 and at other levels even lower. A certain segment will be sheep no matter the price as long as they boil the frog slowly. All they really have to do is work harder for more tours (lots they can do here), turn up the heat just a little on the sales side (can do and be professional) and push the resales down more (? +/- a VIP system). The thing a VIP system does is it pushes some of the current qualified members down also but it encourages retail sales from those members to qualify or move up levels.
