Has anyone every flown to Sanford using direct air out of Worchester, MA? Family Ties sale sounds great. $150 rt. Falls within my travel time next spring. Any feedback??:surfweb:

There was a thread about this during this past week (I think.) Bottom line was some people have run into problems because the airline only runs one flight to Orlando every couple of days. So, if there is a weather problem, which can occur in Worcester, you may delayed a day or two. The airport is on the top of a hill and fog is pretty frequent.

Hopefully they were working the kinks out, but Sept 2009, my kids were booked to fly on a Tuesday and return on Sunday for a short trip to WDW. We got a phone call about a month ahead of time saying, they had cancelled Thursday flights.

thanks I will look back a bit on the thread. We would be flying in April. So maybe weather may not be an issue vs going in Feb/Jan

We flew DirectAir out of Worcester last August and bought Family Ties vouchers, hoping to use them this August. Our flight was delayed about an hour because the airport had lost power. That's the only glitch we experienced. Be prepared, however, for a very small, few services airport. Remember, yours will be the only flight out, so staffing, etc. is minimal. We got a chuckle when the woman who checked our luggage said "see you upstairs" and she was the one who assisted us with boarding an hour later!

$598 for tix. vs the $1200 +/- we usually pay to fly during April break...I am psyched. :thumbsup2

We are flying this April break so I can better answer your question next month.

April vacation airfare out of Boston was not an option for us so that is why we booked. However, if weather, or anything else, becomes an issue we are prepared to rent a car and drive down. The other option was to cancel altogether. Airfares were that crazy this year.

I did some research before I booked and the flight out of Worcester gets good reviews.

What week in April are you hoping to use them for? There are restrictions on the number of seats DirectAir will allow the vouchers to be used for. Patriot's Day week will be competitive. I have a back up week planned in case we can't use our vouchers for our first pick in August.

We used them August 2009. Flew out of Worcester on a Saturday. Arrived 2 hours early. Only need to get there an hour before. We arrived before TSA did. Flew out on time and arrived in Sanford

In Sanford we walked off the plane to go get our luggage. Took 5 minutes. By the time we got to where the luggage goes around our luggage was there.

15 minutes to get our car.

Off to OKW

Return

We arrived in Sanford an hour early. 10 minutes to get ticket and go through security.

Flight was delayed by 30 minutes due to fog in Worcester. Still arrived on time.

We will use them again in October:thumbsup2

When did you book your April flight? :surfweb:
Did you ever have a flight cancelled and wound up driving to Florida?
I suppose driving as a back up plan is an option if the Airline, like Alligiant, leaves town, goes under or cancels their 1 flight. :scared1:
Good luck all,
Joe

Booked in Sept when other non-stop flights out of Boston were running $900/PP round trip. That was before taxes & fees.

Driving as a back up is really the only option. It's not like I am going to be able to find/buy 3 seats at this point. If this were a winter flight I would never take the chance, but April should be fine. But, then again, this is New England....

Hi,

We flew out of Worcester over Feb. school vacation. Had a great experience....no delays. The smallness of the airport is actually pretty refreshing...nice not to have to drive down to Logan, deal with the traffic/parking, etc. Agree with one of the PP who said to arrive 1 hour, not 2 before flight time. Return flight was uneventful....and right on time.

I will be buying vouchers during this sale to use in April 2011.....weather is the one big unknown factor....thinking I'm pretty safe in April, but this is New England.....lol!

Good Luck! ;)
