Can I have some feedback on the Dinosaur ride in AK please? The kids are 9 and 6. Is it a real "jerky" sort of ride like the prim whirl ride? Is it scarey? ANy input would be appreciated. Thanks!

The ride is both jerky and scary. The jeeps, or whatever thye're modeled after, are designed to make you feel like you're going over rough terrain. Nothing that would make you motion sick, but it is a bit jarring. As far as being scary goes, these aren't cuddly cartoon dinosaurs! They're designed to look like the real thing, and are quite convincing. Your kids are at ages where it's tough to determine whether or not they'll be ready for it, so I'm not sure what to tell you. I like this ride a lot, but I've never been on it with kids. So I guess if your kids are scared of loud noises, the dark, being jostled around, or dinosaurs, it's probably not the ride for you. Other than that, I'd play it by ear, being very upfront about what the ride entails. Maybe you could even ride it once without them to see what you think?

Go on the Universe of Energy ride at EPCOT first, you might be able to get a feel from their reactions to this ride.

Dinosaur personally scares me very much. But then again, I started watching Jurassic Park too young, and my imagination thought that dinosaurs could actually come back. So this ride is like my worst nightmare.

The ride is dark, jerky, and loud. The dinos are very realistic. They say that the big dino, where you get a picture taken at, the nostrils flare as he's breathing. I usually close my eyes at this point, so I've never noticed. The dinos roar at you, and actually "chase" you at one point.

This ride is very intense. I would love it, if I wasn't so scared of dinos. I know a lot of people love this ride.

I would take your kids on Universe of Energy, like OrlandoMike said. There are dinos at one part of that ride. Though they aren't as realistic, but its the same idea.

Have fun!!

one of my favorite rides-can be very intense & "loud" at times-try it yourself first :earseek:

We love this ride but we are grown up. Don't have kids but we have been in one of the jeeps with them and they screamed the place down. I would say they were around 6 years old. On the other hand, been on with kids that have loved it !

It is jerky and that big old T-Rex at the end doesn't half scare us!!!!

As other posts say, it may be worth riding it yourself first - have fun!!!!

Only 85 days to go !!!!!!!!!!!

I rode on it with my DS who was 8 at the time. He loved it. It is a very jerky, dark and LOUD. IMO I wouldn't take a 6 year old on it.

We rode this for the first time recently and my DD8 loved it. (so did I :cool1: )
However it scared my DD12 who normally loves thrill rides. But it didn't scare her enough to make her cry or cause nightmares, or anything like that. Just enough so she will not ride it again. Whatever you decide have fun!

A friend who visited last May took DD6 on it. (Friend didnt' know about ride before going on) DD is pretty brave, and it apparently really scared her. It's loud and jerky. She spent the entire ride with her head down and eyes closed. Luckily, it didn't last too long. It was one of the first rides she went on and it took her a while before she'd go on anything else.

Both of my kids love it. DD 11 and DS 6.

Jerky and loud although not that bad.

I don't know about you, but personally, I would want to be awake for the Dinosaur ride. The Universe of Energy is a bit tiring if you know what I mean. :rotfl:

The dinosaur in the pictures on this page is the one that pops out at you. He looks very realistic and could eat you pretty easily. It's pretty startling because you are in the dark (sometimes total darkness), there is a flash of light and then, there is a dinosaur in front of you.
I think the suggestions about the Universe of Energy are good. If those dinos (which are fairly well lit don't pop out at you) are scary for your kids, you know not to go on Dinosaur.

I have been on this ride a few times and everytime I am very scared. I LOVE thrill rides, but just can not get over the dinosaurs popping out at you. I took my then 7 year old brother on this ride a few years ago and I was so scared that I had my eyes closed and lying on his shoulder! What a scene! A 23 yearold clutching onto her 7 year old brother because she is so scared! He would not let that one down the entire trip and since.... so... to answer your question it really depends on the child. I think taking them on the Universe of Energy ride first is a good idea.

One of my faves - other than the noise, my 7yo who is afraid of everything, really liked it.

Honestly, I am 14, and I find the ride scaring me every time. I would die to live in the Tower of Terror (pun intended) but Dinosaur, be warned, will frighten almost any tough kid. It is also VERY jerky. But it boasts amazing theming, and it's alot of fun if you are the right age.

My DS at 6 loved it. Went on it five or six times. His friend same age, hated it. It scared him to death. I would ride it once and then you can make the determination. Hard to know how each kid will react.

I'm 46, and every time I go on Dinosaur (and I've been riding since it was known at Countdown to Extinction), that's how I ride it: with my head down and eyes closed! I can usually handle the first dino or two, but once they start getting a little scary, forget it. This is the ONLY ride that bothers me. Go figure.

I was very nervous the first time I went on Dinosaur, because of wha I'd read on DISboards. But I didn't find it scary at all - amazing, but not frightening. In the photo I'm laughing.

But my DD 13, who wasn't scared on any other ride at WDW, was very frightened and kept her head down and eyes closed through almost all of it. I convinced her to go on it again a few days later, and told her to keep her eyes open. She did, and said it wasn't really scary at all. Sometimes I think keeping your eyes closed, and just hearing the sounds and not having any idea what's coming next, is even more frightening!

I always wind up on the side where the carnataur lunges down feet above you. I literaly scream and duck my head everytime. It's so loud and you ucan feel it's hot breath down on top of you.

But with that said and done.. it's a blast! P.s. i'm a 27 year old man.

It is probably jerk-ier than the prim. whirl even. It is a little scary-- my children were 5 and 8 and not bothered by the scary aspect of it. Just very loud and rough.
