How intense is it.? We didn't go on when my daughter was 4, but she'll be 8 on our next trip. She doesn't like most thrill rides.

VERY!

Dinosaur is, by far, the ROUGHEST indoor ride at WDW.
(Space Mtn. is right in there, but not for ENTIRE ride!)

Its certainly "tied" for the absolute LOUDEST
bellowing sound effects.

And there is nothing that comes close in the category of
"Pitch-blackness...
then FULL-BRIGHT LIGHTS illuminating
GIANT DINOS with razor-sharp spiked teeth
LUNGING out straight AT YOU
with DEAFENING-ROAR sound effects."

Then,
more VIOLENT shaking,
jack-rabbit ACCELERATION,
sudden hard BRAKING...
and REPEAT.

All that said, I really ENJOY riding this attraction, and do so every trip.

Dinosaur is based on the same ride technology that is used on the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland.

DD7 rode it with DH last summer and is adamant that she'll NEVER ride it again. She kept her head buried the entire time! The ride pic was priceless! She didn't cry but was really mad at us when it was over.

Don't ride it with a carton of milk unless you want a tub of butter.

Oh Robo, I loved that description. That was perfect. We love Dinosaur, but the first time I rode it after not having been on it for years, all I could think was "I am too old for this anymore". It is very jerky, loud, and dark. We have ridden it so many times now, that we know all the turns and the cast members laugh at us every time we come back. I do get worried every time a young kid in on the ride though because it is a bit of a shock to the system.
As for the ride pic, I know what is coming and when it is coming, but I have yet to be able to look up when they take the picture. I have ridden it well over 25 times and that part always makes me duck and hide.

It was my DD 7's favorite ride. She was 6 then and wanted to ride it over and over. She did not care for HM though;)

I think it's one of the most fun rides! My DD was 5 and 6 and a bit too young, as she gets scared easily. However she will definitely be ok when she's 9 (our next trip)

It's jerky and the thing is you feel like you're about to go down a drop but it never happens. I don't like thrill rides much, I find space mountain a LOT worse than this!

It really depends on the kid, one of her schoolmates last year at 5 did every single thrill ride!

I am a ride wimp, and skipped this one many times. Then one year I guess I was feeling brave, tried it, and now it's my favorite! For a child though, if they're not fond of thrill rides, I'd skip it.

It is loud and intense! We've only done it once and I look horrified in the ride pic. So horrified a friend asked if it was staged.

Um.

No! :rotfl2:

The little girl in the row behind us SCREAMED HER BLOODY HEAD OFF THE ENTIRE RIDE! Poor dear.

It's "flat", as in no drops but not flat as in smooth by any stretch of the imagination.

I have been to chicken to ride.
Is is all flat or are there drops?

It's not a "drop-type" ride.
The up/down motion comes from hydraulic pistons quickly raising, lowering, and changing the pitch (angle) of the car and its seats... all as the entire car is accelerating, rolling and jerking along a track, decelerating to stops and starting up again very quickly.

Before I am gonna ride Dinosaur once, I am gonna jump on EE for 5 times.

Dinosaur is boring but very intense, all in all nothing special.
If you like a 5 minute shake of yourself, please jump on Dinosaur

I equate riding Dinosaur to riding a mechanical bull!

Ha ha! Yeah, that's pretty much it.

It's very loud and jerky. I've seen adults come off it saying it was too intense.

I don't like the dinosaur that chases the car (...and yes. I know he's not 'real' lol)

Robo said it best. I'll be honest, I'm an adult male and it startles me...the loud noise and the darkness is just too intense for me to enjoy it really. I wish we would have gotten the Indy version instead.

As all others have said, it is very intense, very dark and probably the loudest ride I have ever been on at Disney or anywhere else. Having said that, I think it is terrific! My 10 and 5 year old boys love it. Full disclosure-my 10 year old is afraid of the HM-how can that be????

It made my DD cry.

And she was 23 at the time.

:)

(and I have to be honest and say we both had our heads down and I was crying too, just from the intense emotions it brought up. We were both laughing and more than a little embarrassed. )

DD rode it when she was 5 and was TERRIFIED. I wish I had know it was that intense, she kept asking "will we ever get back?" now she is 7 and it is her first priority to ride she cannot wait. She is determine to prove she is no longer scared LOL Our other DD was 7 the first time and loved it but she is pretty adventurous little cowgirl who has been bucked off her horses a time or two and has no problem helping Mr Morgan wrestle calves at branding time. :)
