DINOSAUR - We've never done this ride, my kids are 4 & 7 now-is it appropriate for little ones??

my DD7 is a daredevil she conquered the Yeti when she was 4...my son not so much.

Any thoughts on this?? is it as scary as it seems??

Thanks?

It's extremely rough, and extremely scary. Giant, toothy dinos leaping at you out of the dark. I think it would absolutely terrify a 4-year-old, and I'm not at all sure I'd take a 7-year-old on it, either.

Those were the ages of my kids when we first rode Dinosaur. My DD4 cried the entire time - mainly because it's really loud in there. We felt awful for taking her on afterwards! My DS7 seemed fine and said he liked it but then for the next two years he said he didn't want to go on it! Once we convinced him to try it again, he loved it and it's one of his favorite rides. We have still not been able to convince DD to give it another shot (her claim is that she wasn't scared, but the ride made her feel "car sick")! I guess it depends on your kids - it's a bumpy ride but not a roller coaster by any means - lots of shaking and jostling around, and very loud with dinosaurs lunging at your car.

We did it for first time this year.

My son is 6, and can be spooked a bit. He loves Dinosaurs. He loved loved loved the ride.
My niece is 4, and she barely made the height. She is a daredevil. She rocked it hard. Nothing scares her.

I would have to say like others....you have to really know your kids.

This is widely regarded as the scariest ride in WDW (independant of speed, height, and similar considerations) - and the reputation is WELL deserved.

It will almost certainly be too much for a 4 year old, and the 7 year old may or may not enjoy it. The ride is dark and very bumpy, the dinosaurs are EXTREMELY large, close, and shockingly loud. The end of the ride is quite tense, even if you have ridden it before and know without a doubt that you are simply on a ride at WDW.

Beware!

I def think it's fine for a 7 year old- unless they protest and say they really dont wanna go.

My 4 year old went on it last year- adn he was definitely a little spooked but not terrified- though he kinda just curled up and closed his eyes and ears for most of it. I don't think he wants to go on it again this year though :-)

I for one get terrified everytime i go on that ride! but I LOVE it.

I was screaming like a little girl, but my kids DS age 6 DD age 4 at the time didn't seem to mind? I also managed to give myself Whiplash! :rotfl:

It scared the crap out of my daughter last year (she was 17 then!). I thought it was pretty scary at the end when that great big honkin' thing with all those teeth was roarin' at us...but as previously stated, ya really have to know your kids as to what may/may not scare them. It's also very loud in there.

Yeah, when DH and I went last year, we rode Dinosaur three times. The last time we went on it, there was a little girl who looked to be around 7-8 years old, who pushed and shoved through everyone, cutting right to the front of the line. Her mom was mortified. After the movie room, when the doors opened to allow us to head toward the vehicles, she tore thru and her mom had to catch up. Somehow, with the way we all ended up being divided, she and her mom ended up in our vehicle for the ride. The little girl. who started out so eager to ride, ended up hiding, screaming in terror, and crying the entire ride. After seeing that, I think the ride might be a bit too scary.

I think more than anything, it's a loud ride and the vehicle has some sudden and fast stops and go's, and fast turns, so that combined would shock a little kid. My DH said that when we go back this December, he is brining earplugs because he said it hurt his ears a lot.

I loved the ride!

I took my DS3 on it last year. One of the ride operators gave me a funny look, and I couldn't understand why- within minutes, it became clear that I had made a VERY bad mistake. He was screaming and crying the entire time, and I have to say i didn't like it myself! I only wish the ride operator warned me, b/c it looked innocent enough on the outside and heck, dinosaurs are cute and cuddly, look at Barney! LOL DEFINITELY my bad!

My DD7 is a daredevil and rode Yeti (EE) 7 times in a row and begged for Dinosaur ride. i had heard how sacry and told her but she wanted to do it. SHE HATED IT. Wanted to get off - I think it was the darkness more than anything.

Only you know your kids I would saw no for the 4 yo def and 7 let it be there choice. Good luck

Just a tip...

I would seat little ones (or scared ones) on the left hand side of the ride vehicle (think drivers side in a regular car.) The right hand side is scarier b/c it's closer to one of the really scary dinosaurs. ;)

I LOVE rides and I consider myself a daredevil. This ride scared the crap out of me. This was the first time I have closed my eyes on a ride at Disney since I was a kid. Just when I thought all was safe I feel this hot breath on my head and neck...I turn around and it is the dinosaur. You should see the picture of me.

Just add have them sit towards the front. The back left hand side has it's moments, too.

I have reservations about this ride due to all of the reviews. However, my almost 7 year old (July birthday) is adamant that he is riding it. The 11 year old is anxious to ride it too. We arrive at WDW this Saturday and AK is going to be our first park. It could very well be his first ride of this trip. He is a daredevil though and has always loved every ride he's tall enough to ride. He's insisiting, so we'll all be doing it. I'll just remind him that it's loud and dark and that above all else it's not real ... just Disney magic. He knows he can pull his hat down over his eyes and cover his ears, so even if he hates it I think he'll be OK.

Took DS turning 15 last trip to try it then, and DD was 11. Before then we knew the rep. of the ride, were honest about it & let them decide. As has been stated, you know your kids best. (BTW, DS went back to ride it again, LOL.)

My son rode it when he was 4 (almost 5). He loved it! But he absolutely loved anything to do with dinosaurs. Dinoland was his favorite thing at WDW.
I think his love of dinos conquered all his other fears.

He is 16 now and has still not ridden ToT and doesn't like Splash Mtn at all (he hates drops), so it is very important to know your kids and what they dislike.

We took my 4 and 6 year old on it. They thought it was scary, but they weren't screaming or crying or anything. Both have said that they want to ride it again next trip. It really does depend on your child and their tolerance of scary rides.

well lets see my kids were that exact age when we took them on for the first time last year....

Daughter is a tough girl (4yrs )but because she demanded I practically lay on top of her while her head was in her lap and cover her eyes and ears at the same time I dont know that the attraction looked like but is was awfully load.

Son - was good with thrills until this ride.....now he wont ride much of the major attractions and hes (7) he ended up sick to his stomach and we had to let him relaxs for a few hours on the benches outside the attraction before he was well enough to walk...he was fine afterwards....but he wont go on anything like that again.

The ride is very very bumpy and jerky...but not all kids are the same yours may enjoy it its up to you if you want to risk if they dont....good luck with that.

It is very intense. If you have any reservations, you may want to ride it first to see. We did this with DD and were glad that we did. She is quite the daredevil when it comes to thrill rides and absolutely loved ToT from the time she was 3, but this ride was going to be too much for her. She finally went on it last year at age 9 and was still terrified. I think it all depends, but if you are unsure, I would check it out first. You could also do a ride swap, which would allow one of you to ride it first then go through the FP lane to ride it with the kids if you think they will be okay.
