Dinner time, where do you fill your plate?

During dinner, do you fix your families plates from the stove, or do you have serving dishes on the table and everyone takes what they want? We do it both ways, but I think I want to change that. How do you do dinner?

Unless we have company, we fill our plates at the stove. Less dirty dishes!

It gets put on the plate every night, I agree with the previous poster about extra washing up!

When we have visitors or it's a special occasion we always serve it in dishes.

We usually serve it at the table in serving dishes unless it is a one-dish meal and it is just DH and I. Then we serve ourselves from the stove.

I always put the food into serving bowls on the table unless it's something that I want to keep warm during dinner. Then we'll fill our plates at the stove.

except a big pot of american chop suey or a casserole.....then one casserole dish and it is on the table....

My family usually serves themselves at the Stove, unless there is guests. When guests come it is serving bowls at the table. If my mom knows she is making something we all like and we will all go back for seconds, then she puts it on the table.

Wow, I am surprised, I thought most people serve from the table. I am glad to hear that we aren't the only ones that serve from the stove.

It depends on what I've made and who's in the house that night. I try and serve from the pots at the stove, but with 6 people it's usually easier to just put in bowls and let them help themselves. I don't mind doing the dishes, I know I'm strange.

Usually from the table. But if its just 'us' then I often just take the pots and pans to the table [not serving dishes]. Occasionally from the stove --- but my family generally sits down at the table and looks at me kind of funny those nights -- asking 'what's to eat'. Ummm --- go get it yourselves! My DH has been very good about sticking around and helping me clean up the table after dinner.

It's just the two of us so right from the stove. We don't usually sit at the table either except for weekend breakfasts.

We just unwrap it and chow down.

It depends what I make. I always put things like chicken, kielbasa or meatloaf on dishes, but if it's pasta, I serve it from the stove.

Always put serving dishes on the table. The dishwasher does the dishes.

I always put everything in serving dishes and put them on the table. I could not stand taking food out of pots on the stove. Sounds too much like camping to me! LOL! I also have a D/W so clean up is no biggie.
