dinner suggestions for 10 & 11 year old

i've been surveying the menus and having trouble finding table service restaurants for dinner. i have only 2 so far (hollywood & vine and trails end buffet). i know the menus aren't listed in full for the restaurants so i am counting on you guys to help me out. where do you take your kids around this age. the eat more than is offered with kid's meals and i think they are past the age anyway. they do not eat hamburgers or fish. pretty much just pizza, hotdogs, and chicken fingers. that covers lunch but what to do at dinner. we have 7 nights and i need 5 more places? was considering sci-fi but what's on the menu. lists i found don't really list anything. TIA

I haven't got kids but grew up as a fussy eater going to Disney. Some of the best places I found were places like:
Rainforest Cafe
Planet Hollywood etc
Le Cellier might do something they'd like

My daughter is also piky - She likes Mama Melrose in DS, Tony's Town Square in MK, and all the Buffets. She is a big pasta eater so the Italian type resturants work for us. The Resturant in Epcot in the Land Pavilion (i forgot the name) is family style and has a good rotisserie chicken that she eats and has Characters.
If they eat turkey or pot roast the character dinner at Liberty Tavern is good also.

They aren't picky eaters, but looking at some of the menus I think the 10 year olds are going to have a hard time. We did Whispering Canyon two years ago and they all want to go back there. Some think it's too loud, but my kids fit right in. They loved all the fun hoopla and the skillet meal we all had was yummy. My girls loved the ribs and chicken. I think we are going to try some buffet meals so that we all have variety. We are going to try Chef Mickey's and Biergarten (sounded like fun) and Crystal Palace was really good last time too. We are also wanting to do Ohana's. Hopefully we'll get some more suggestions from others. Oh, to repeat what someone else told you, go to www.allears.net for dining menus. If you can find stuff at the 50's Cafe for your kids that is a really fun place to go.

They are not really picky eaters, but I looking at some of the menu's I think the 10 year olds may have a problem choosing at some places. I think we are going to do more buffets than anything. We've heard good things about Chef Mickey's and Biergarten looks like fun. We've eaten at Crystal Palace and we really liked it, it's a character meal which my kids dont' have to do. They did like it though. The one place we ate at last time that they all want to go back to was Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge. Some people think it's too loud, but my kids aren't exactly quiet so we fit in. They loved all the fun stuff that goes on there and we all loved the skillet meal. The girls liked the chicken and ribs. We are also looking at going to O'hana's. My girls said they want to have fun and eat yummy food. I'm hoping to hear some good suggestions from others too. Click the word "dining" at the top of this very screen for a link to WDW menus. With similarly aged kids, we did great at WCC at WL, they loved all breakfast buffets, loved LTT, hated, hated, hated Le Cellier, thought 50s Primetime was just OK. For our June trip (OOP), we're doing Sci-Fi, Maya Grill (we're staying at CSR), Crystal Palace, and the Plaza at MK. Seeing the menus beforehand is so, so handy. I can look and say, "Nope, there's nothin' there my kids will eat." Also, when we were on DDP and both kids were "adults," most places let them order off the kids menu and brought a little bigger portion (4 chicken fingers instead of three, etc.). It killed me to use an adult TS for that, but those chicken fingers really soothe the savage beast!

Liberty Tree Tavern Character Dinner #1 ds10 and dd7 agree
Planet Hollywood
Sci-Fi Dine In
50's Prime Time Cafe
Flame Tree BBQ (this is a counter service)
Crystal Palace (for breakfast)
Rose and Crown Pub (my ds 10 loves this one because we always get to sit outside for the fireworks show)

Beyond that, you know your kids best. Without knowing them, it's kind of hard to know what they will like best. There are lots of good choices at WDW.

Some of the places listed our family hasn't especially cared for, not that they were awful, but we just didn't care for them as much as other places. But then, our family really likes sushi, which other folks would hate....

FWIW - Have you checked out the kids menus that go along with all the restaurants? Pizza is listed as a choice on many of them (including sci-fi which you said you were considering). Although they are technically "adults" for Disney Dining they can still order of the kids menus. (Although they will pay adult price at buffets.)

With 2 boys aged 13 and 11 for our upcoming trip in June - I feel your pain!

Frankly, we are shying away from buffets this trip. Normally, we love the Disney buffets as they do a good job of pleasing all the appetites of our 5-some. But I just can't reconcile myself to pay adult fare for each of our 2 boys (one of whom is esseintally a veggie eater and the other a total carnivore... between them they make a whole meal!) Oh I'm sure in a few years they will be robbing Disney blind with typcial bottomless teen tummies at a buffet - but for now, I let them choose ONE buffet - and as I had surmised, It's Chef Mickey's. (It's a tradition!)

For the rest of our meals, however, we are sticking with places that are NOT buffet. We love Beaches and Cream and also ESPN. I second the vote for Whispering Canyon (DH can get his all-you-can-eat meal yet kids can order off either the adult menu or the kids). Just a very fun place! We also have lunch ressies at Mama Melrose's. I have done Sci-Fi many, many times - kids do love it. Only reason we aren't doing it this time is because we have done every other time before, LOL. I prefer it for lunch, however, as I think it is better suited to burgers and sandwiches. (Something about eating shrimp pasta in a car doesn't feel right....) We have ressies at Le Cellier (we happen to have had good experiences here, my kids love the steak). DS11 has ordered the kids' steak here, and DS13 has ordered the smallest adult steak. Other places we plan to dine include Big River Brewing Co. (DS picked this one, he liked the menu) and Captain's Galley over in the Yacht CLub, and Kona Cafe @ the Poly. ANd I feel certain that somewhere in that week, a trip will be made to the pizza window over on the Boardwalk. After all, A boy and his pizza are NOT soon parted...

I would consider letting them split a meal, too, if they could agree on one, LOL. But usually that job is left to me. Sometimes I will order a salad or app. and then split a main course with DS. (We do this at Outback steakhouse - he orders the kids' mac-n-cheese, I order a steak dinner, we split the dinner and enjoy a side of mac with it. Works pretty well, it's more "grown-up' than just a kids' meal, but not quite so much food.) My kids have fairly adult taste, but only now and then an adult-sized appetite, and their taste buds do yearn for the kid fare now and again. So the kid who clamours for a chicken nugget today may want a taste of tandoori chicken tommorow... you just never know.
