Dinner Shows

It really depends on what you like. I'd prefer Hoop Dee Doo over the Luau. I like BBQ food better and sadly the show at the luau has changed variously over the years. The show at HDD hasn't changed, because it's so popular. If you want to see what kind of food is served, check out the menus at wdwinfo.com or allearsnet.com

HDDR has the better show. Neither has gourmet food but we thought HDDR's had the edge there too (though the luau in *theory* should have been my favorite since that menu is more to my taste but it just wasn't very good in execution.)

HDDR also has sangria included in the price, if that is your thing. The only way the free red wine they serve there is drinkable is when made into sangria!

like hddr show better. like luau food better. easier to get refills of beverages at luau.

Which is the best show? Which has the best food served?

I love the Luau, though it may have something to do with the fact that every time I go, it is the perfect temperature, beautiful tropical breeze and I love the torches, beach after the show.

I dont remember too much about the show even though Ive been about 1/2 dozen times! Something about hula dancers and fire being thrown around!!! I just remember being with my husband having a perfect romantic night (and he always buys me a fresh flower bracelet when we arrive!).

Ive been to the HDDR twice. A little loud, not my type of entertainment, hate the food, though millions love it, so dont go by my opinion.

The BBQ is super fun! Adults and kids get up on the dance floor for line/country dancing. Nice band and the Disney characters come out for a little show. The food is downright awful, but the entertainment makes up for that. You also sit at huge tables with other families. You do this 1/2 way with the other shows too, but at the BBQ, you're not always staring at the stage and have a chance to talk to other people other than your family, which is refreshing after a week in the World!

We lovedHDDR! We loved the show, we loved the food, we loved watching the electric light parade and Wishes from the beach afterward.

What beach is near the HDDR?

I know you can do that after the Luau..I did not know about the HDDR.

HDDR, hand's down. There is a reason why the show hasn't changed at all in more than 20 years with sold out theaters being common.

The theater is located near the beach at Fort Wilderness.

I like the Backyard BBQ! The dancing with the characters is so much fun! HDDR was great too, but it was FREEZING in there. Granted I saw it around July 4th when it was sticky and humid out, but we enjoyed the BBQ more, and it didn't cost quite as much...

I am trying the HDDR this August..it consistently receives positive reviews for it's food and entertainment. The Aloha show @ the Poly and Mickey's BBQ gets mixed reviews..in my opinion, I thought most were negative. My friend went to Mickey's BBQ in April and HATED it! She said the food was mediocre at best and very chaotic :upsidedow . She said it was the biggest waste of 2 dinner credits..she ended up leaving early. Have a wonderful trip! :)

We LOVE the HDDR!!! And will NOT start our vacation at Disney without it!!! It is always our first stop on arrival day!!! So much fun!!!

We LOVE the Hoop Dee Do because it has good food, the whole family loves the food, and the show is very fun and interactive. We like it because they offer Chicken and Ribs. The luau is awesome too with the show, but we don't like the food as good. It's still awesome food, but what does it for us is the cornbread at Hoop Dee Do and then of course the strawberry shortcake!!! I think both shows are great. You can't go wrong there.

We've never done the BBQ because it's an outdoor event and subject to cancelation if it rains. We don't want that chance of disappointment for DD, so we do one of the inside shows. The luau is also an outside show...

As others have pointed out, it depends upon what you like. We have attended three "dinner shows" in the area, two at WDW and one in Kissimmee (attending all three several times), and, rating them by food quality, we would list them like this ....

Hoop De Doo (super show, and we liked the meal too)
Medieval Times (worth the drive to see the show, and a good meal too)
Polynesian Luau (entertaining show and a fair meal)

I don't think you can go wrong with either of these three.
