Evening everyone,

Where would you recommend us to go for dinner our first night? We are going to be staying at AKL and I've already made reservations for Chef's Mickey, and have Boma planned in somewhere else. Does anyone have any other suggestions of restaurants at maybe other resorts, since we will probably not be doing the parks that day.

Thanks so much. :)

Melissa,

How about some details about what your family likes to eat. Also, will you have a car or use Disney transportation? What time does your flight get in? Are you on the dining plan? Do you have young kids that might not tolerate another long period of sitting after a plane ride? The answer to all these things will greatly influence my advice!

Hi Penny!
It is going to be me, DH and our son who is 6. We land at about 10:30 AM, and will have a rental car. Our plan is to check in, swim and rest for a few hours and then dinner early around 5 or 6 ish. As of right now we are not doing the dining plan. We like to eat just about everything, especially DH. DS eats the usual kid favs, but will try new foods also.

T-Rex in DTD?

To save money, there are also good CS places in DTD.

To really save money, you could go off site

Your question sound just like what my DH and I were talking about today. We arrive at 6 AM. It is my, DH and my DD who will be 11 at the time. We too are staying at AKL and don't plan to do a park that day. We planned to check in, swim, hang out at the resort and need somewhere to eat that night. I know we will be tired as we are on a red eye but we can manage to keep going most of the day and then crash for a nap in the afternoon...

We were thinking of heading to the Grand Floridian Cafe or maybe even TRex. We will have a kitchen but don't want to use it the first night...

Keep us posted and I will learn from your responses..

We have reservations at tRex our first night, it is really just an excuse to go shopping at DTD. Don't tell my boys they think it is all about them. :rotfl2:

If you are thinking about off property we love Kobe Steakhouse it is a japanease steakhouse not too far away, and a must for us every time we do Disney.

Have a wonderful trip.

Hi! Our first day is always Ohana and ending it with watching Wishes on the beach! Great way to start vacation.

We like to immerse ourselves in Disney, especially on our first night. Usually it's with Chef Mickeys or California Grill. O'Hanas or Whispering Canyon Cafe would be fun too!

We're going to Spoodles our first night...we never seem to have time to go over & see the Boardwalk, so I thought we'd try that. I've read good reviews here on the boards.

We've done Ohana on our arrival night. It's nice to be able to catch the fireworks from the Poly and see the castle from the windows of the restaurant.

we've made a tradition out of going to DTD on our first night. This year it will be TRex.

Can anyone give me directions to Kobe's from Disney!? This is one of my and DH's favorite places to eat!!

Hi Melissa,

My family goes to WDW every other year since 1994, and our favorite first night spot is a buffet at Cape May Cafe at the Yacht and Beach Club. It is a buffet, and afterwards, since we always eat way too much, we walk it off at the Boardwalk. There is always something going on there. Another favorite while there,is Ohana. Since we dont want to spend a park ticket on the first day, we go to our pool, get hungry and then go to Cape May! Hope you have an excellent time! :cutie:

Melissa,
Have you eaten at Boma before? I love AKL, but Boma had very different food, I was with 3 girls ages 5,11,and 13. They were less than thrilled with it, but there is usually kid friendly food at the buffets.

My parents like to do Cape May Cafe on their first night. It's located in the Beach Club & it's fun to walk around the Boardwalk, possibly catch Illuminations afterwards.

My DF & I like to do either Beaches & Cream (old fashioned beach style soda shop with amazing burgers & chicken sandwiches & HUGE ice cream sundaes!). This is also at the Beach Club & we like to hang around the Boardwalk afterwards & catch Illuminations.

We also like to grab counter service at the Poly at Captain Cook's & watch Wishes from the Poly beach afterwards! Captain Cook's has amazing sandwiches, IMHO & they have Dole Whips!

We tend to eat casual and light during our first night. After a long day of traveling, we don't tend to get too hungry.

BTW, we LOVE Boma!! It's my favorite restaurant in WDW & a must do for every trip! IMO, it's the best quality buffet in WDW. They have yummy hummus, amazing soups, interesting salads, great main dishes, & the dessert section is the best! Even the kids section is delicious! My advice to you when you go-eat light that day! The first time we ate there, we were disappointed for getting stuffed too early & wanting to try more!!:rotfl2:

We like to go back to our hotel and eat there. That way we can turn in early and start fresh on a full day of vacation. It works out great because we always catch such an early flight to Orlando.
