Dinner in Vancouver?

Does anyone have suggestions for a nice place to have dinner in downtown/port area Vancouver? We'll be staying in Vancouver the night before and the night after our cruise, and will need a nice place to eat. It doesn't need to be fancy, but we won't want a dive or fast food, either.

Do resturants in Vancouver accept American credit cards? Do taxis?

I like Mean Poutine which is near Granville St.

Most things in Vancouver (including Taxi's) take American CCs just be aware if your CC charged a foreign transaction fee etc. It is usually a few bucks.

We had no problem using U.S. credit cards anywhere in Vancouver, but as the PP noted watch out for foreign transaction fees. We have one credit card that does not charge them, so we use that exclusively we travel internationally. We were there three nights and ate at the Cactus Club and Tap and Barrel which are both very close to Canada Place and the pier. We enjoyed them very much, and would definitely eat there again. The third night we ate in Gastown at the Steamworks Brewing Co and that was terrific as well.

We also had lunch on Granville Island at the Sandbar Seafood Restaurant and would recommend that one as well. I don't think we had a bad meal in Vancouver and we were there for three days.

Enjoy!!

Tacking on to this - if anyone happens to have a gluten-free rec, that would be awesome! (not for fad reasons, so it needs to be safe for celiacs)

Sandbar at Granville Island is excellent! Closer to the port you have Steamworks, Cactus Club, WhiteSpot, Red Robin, tons of restaurant choices along Robson Street...

I was in Vancouver last month and Nightingale was so great we went twice! It's a little fancier, but really great menu, and gorgeous setting in one of the oldest buildings in Vancouver.

In general, Canada accepts American CCs. However, I have had some places not accept American Express, so it's good to have a back-up card too just in case.

As far ar restaurants go near the port, The Cactus Club Cafe has a varied menu at reasonable prices. It's right next to the convention center/port area and offers stunning views of the harbor.

If you are looking for something a little nicer, Nightingale is fantastic. It's still walkable from the port area, but it's still further away.

The Botanist in the Fairmont Pacific Rim is beautiful, close and amazing too. If nothing else, I'd recommend stopping by their bar and trying one of their specialty craft cocktails. It's an experience!

That's true about some CCs not being accepted. Discover is generally NOT excepted in Vancouver. If you have a MasterCard or Visa you should be fine.

I'm glad you asked this question, @Shanti I was wondering that myself. I was studying the map of the port area as well as restaurants on Open Table, and the biggest problem I'm coming across is many of them don't have a closing time listed. They just say, "late." I guess it's their version of island time LOL. We have a somewhat of a late flight going in, and I want to get settled in our room before heading out to dinner, but don't want to be out walking back to the hotel too, too late.

Most restaurants close around 9pm..... some 10pm. If you want to eat late... Robson street eateries are open til 11pm.

There's some very late night places.

Not sure where you are staying.... also check with hotel on where they suggest.
