Hi Gang!

We are headed to DLR next month and are staying about 200 yards from the main entrance at a hotel called the Marriott Residence Inn. I was wondering the following:

What dinner ideas do you suggest?

We would mostly like take-out but price is not object.

Please share any ideas or experiances with me.

Thanks a lot,

MDF :bounce:

I and many others on this board like Mimi's Cafe. It's across the street from Disneyland on Harbor, north the entrance on Disney Way. It's a sit down restaurant but you can order to go.

If you have a car, there's a Boston Market about a 10 mins. drive south on Harbor Blvd. near the entrance of the 22 fwy. It's in the city of Garden Grove near the Alberston's Supermarket which, I believe, is the closet market to Disneyland.

At DTD, you might want to check out La Brea Bakery. Besides the great breads and pastries, they also have sandwiches at the take out counter. They also have a small table service area that serves meals which I'm sure you could also get to go. For that matter, any of the DTD restaurants should be able to pack your food to go but your dining experience would be much better eating there than to go.

Another idea if you have a car: El Pollo Loco. You probably don't have this chain in Montana but they serve marinated flame grilled chicken. You get tortillas instead of bread and their sides are part traditional Mexican sides (rice/beans), part American style sides like mac & cheese, steamed vegetables, etc. My husband prefers their chicken over Boston Markets. Their chicken pieces are also bigger than Boston Market's. Like Boston Market, it's a take out place with seating available for dining in.

They are also located on Harbor in Garden Grove. Driving south on Harbor, you'll pass this on the right before you reach Boston Market.

If you drive behind Disneyland on Ball Road there is a restaurant called tyhe Spaghetti Station. It has good food and quite a few different kinds of sauces to choose from. We try to hit that place each trip.

As I was reading the posts, I was smiling because when we are there in December, we are planning on eating at El Pollo Loco and the Spaghetti Station!

Havent been back to Ca. for 6 years and we've told the family and friends that we want to eat at our old favorite places!!!

Im laughing as I read these posts because it seems we are all thinking about the same places!

We just ate at Bucca for the first time in July and wanted to go to one in Calif. with a large group of family and friends while we are there.

Bon Apetite to all!

Dear Montana Disney Fan,
I just have to voice my opinion. I do not like Mimi's (pretty boring/ordinary and overpriced) or Boston Market (again, bland chicken and sides for a lot of $$$). But the Spaghetti Station is a must and El Pollo Loco serves flamebroiled chicken and sides for very little $$$. Please do enjoy as many restaurants in DTD as appeal to you as there are many that are wonderful!

P.S. Have to comment, my brother is an auto transporter and loves the route from here (Southern CA) to "Big Sky" as he calls it:) :D :D I wouldn't have "gotten" the reference otherwise.

If you like Italian food, then you've got to go to Marri's Pizza on Katella between West Street and 9th. They've been there for years and have great pizza, spaghetti, etc.
They are very reasonably priced, too. A lot of movie stars have eaten there over the years, too! It is sit down, take-out or delivery.

For BBQ, you can't beat Chris and Pitts BBQ on Euclid and Crescent. It's a couple of miles north of DLR.

At Katella and Brookhurst there is a shopping center with a couple of good and inexpensive restaurants. There's a King Kabob, Popeye's Chicken, China Express Chinese Food (really good!) there is also a Seafood Palace and a Vietnamese restaurant for the adventurous types out there! (tantalizing dishes such as Pho, Phuc and Dung....I'm not kidding)

There is a Hometown Buffet all you can eat restaurant at the southeast corner of Euclid and Katella. It's pretty reasonable and good. There is also an Arby's, Taco Bell, Burger King and Baskin Robbins Ice Cream there, too. Across the street there is a McDonald's, Carl's Jr, Green Burrito, Jack in the Box, KFC and a Pizza Hut. There's a little hoagie sandwich place on the northeast corner of Katella and Euclid that has great sandwiches.

For Mexican food you can't beat Cabo's on the northwest corner of Katella and Euclid. There is also a Papa Johns Pizza there and a Blockbuster Video, if needed.

Hey, if you get the chance, try a Coldstone Creamery Ice Cream Shop. I don't think that there is one particularily close to DLR, but if you see one while you're out and about, give it a try. Really good ice cream!

Hope this helps!

Roy

BTW - I think Spaghetti Station may have been closed down. I saw a chain link fence surrounding the property last time I drove by. :(

I agree! I grew up on weekly take-out from their original Long Beach location. Most cheese you'll ever find on a pizza - Greek-style. Completely different that an Italian you would find a Beppo's.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the advice. I hope Spaghetti Station did not close down. We love Italian food.

Thanks Again,

MDF
