Dinner Battles

no and no but there are stipulations. I generally don't make things that DS doesn't like so he at least has to have a bite of everything. If it is new, he must try it. He is welcome to make himself a PB&J if he doesn't like what I've made. I will not make him something different.

Tonight I have left over brisket in BBQ sauce. I sorta of sloppy joe type thing. He didn't want it so I asked him to eat 1/2 a sandwich (which he liked) and then he made himself a PB&J. I didn't make him eat some of tonights sides because it is well established that he doesn't eat mayo.

DD does sometimes get different meals but she isn't quite 2. Tonight she is getting the sides (potato salad, coleslaw + mac and cheese, peas and yogurt.

Neither kid is terribly picky. DS's big issue is dairy and dairy type products, so we don't make him eat them anymore. I don't need to deal with the vomit that comes from a taste of yogurt, sour cream, cream cheese, mayo or milk. DD has an aversion to some meat but I expect this to get better as she gets older.

No she doesn't have to clean her plate and 9 times out of 10 I make her a seperate meal from what I am eating. And 5 time out of 10 I make grandma a seperate meal than what I am eating and my daughter is eating...so on any given night I can be cooking three different things. I don't eat red meat, pork or fish but I am not going to force that on my daughter, she can choose for herself so there are times I am cooking her ham or meat, my mom likes fish, neither my daughter nor I eat fish so I cook that just for her while I cook something else for us. The thing we all like is grilled chicken so the days I cook that we all eat it! We all eat Pasta but I eat it with sauce, my daughter eats it plain, no butter or sauce and grandma eats it with butter and garlic!

My daughter is two and I don't make her finish her plate. When she says she's done she can get down. As far as eating what we eat...well it depends. If we're having chili or something that she can't eat (too spicy or can't chew well, whatever) I'll make her something different. For other meals I just try to make sure at least part of the meal is something that I know she'll eat. If she doesn't finish her meal that's fine, but if she's hungry later she's not offered something different. She has to eat what she didn't eat at dinner, warmed back up.
