I know I can find the answer to this on Dis. - I searched but did not see it.

We have 3 kids (ages 5,6,7) that love animals. I read somewhere that if you make ADR's at a certain time you can see the animals come in for the the evening or use night vision glasses or something cool.

Anyone have any tips about this or cool things to do at AKL at dinner time?

AK has an animal viewing area for you to enjoy. You can also go to back area of the pool to the left and do the night vision, but that starts around 9 pm. If it's not a black out time you could even pool hop, they have a great pool area.

What is a black out time?

How do you get to do night vision?

:headache:

It is never appropriate to pool hop to AKL it is always blacked out. Pool hopping is only allowed for DVC members with restrictions.

With that now corrected you can see animals from several areas including around the pool, and going down the of the lobby taking the stairs down and out.

I don't want to to turn into a pool hopping thread. Please understand - WE HAVE NO INTENTION OR INTEREST IN POOL HOPPING.

Our only interest is in the animals. I read somewhere (can not find it now) that there is a certain time that many of the animals come in to feed or something and it is a great time to see them. Any info. on this anyone?

Don't worry no one thinks you are turning this into a pool hopping thread.

As for the night vision, when you go to the back corner there will be a guide there with a few pairs of night vision glasses for everyone to take turns with.

You might want to try Sanaa for an early dinner. Last May (2009) we ate at Sanaa at around 5:15 or 5:30...it was very soon after they started seating for dinner and we got a window seat. They had just put the animals feed out and you could very easily see the animals right outside -- was 1/2 dozen giraffes right there...fabulous view.

There's no view of the animals from the Boma restaurant, but you can go out in the viewing area before or after a meal at Boma and might be able to see the animals.

Check out the gift shop at AK Lodge...it's really awesome in there.

You might want to be careful. Eating at Boma's might become expensive.;)

We ate breakfast there last year and after that DH insisted that we have to stay here on our next trip.:lmao:

Boma is amazing. Don't forget to try the soups. I think they have 5 different ones every night. They are addicting. I had so much Butternut Squash Soup (and my 2 sons also) that I was almost sick. It tasted like warm pumkin pie :love: We loved it so much it has been a tradition to make it for Thanksgiving and relive alittle of the magic. And the desserts are crazy good. The famous Zebra Domes and the white chocolate pineapple cheescake that was to die for.
