Dining with Peanut Allergies

We currently have ADR at Cinderella's Castle for lunch, and Tuskers for breakfast. We do have the peanut allergy noted on our reservations.

We're looking to find dining options at Epcot (doesn't necessarily have to be a character meal), I heard Epcot could be a bit trickier. Any suggestions on where to eat there (both table service and quick service).

Also, are there deserts or treats in Disney that DD can have with her PN allergy? I read that we can find Enjoy life stuff at certain locations, but I'm wondering about other items like the Mickey ice cream treats, bakery items, cupcakes, etc.? I'm not sure if I'd be able to find something like that for her that's safe or not while there? Or deserts offered at table service restaurants?

We're staying at CSR, so any dining advice there would be appreciated as well.

Thanks :)

If you are willing to walk out the back of Epcot, DS's favorite meal at Disney was at the Captains Grill. He also had allergy tenders at the Electric Umbrella in Epcot. The World Showcase is tricky because they are not Disney owned/trained so there have been issues.

For treats, if peanut is the only allergen you should (always double check) but the cupcakes at BOG and the cinnamon rolls and croissants at Gastons (sp) are okay too (they share a kitchen which is PN/TN free). I think there is risk of CC with the sprinkles on the one cupcake at BOG yo can get them without to be extra safe.

Both my boys have peanut/tree nut allergies. You can ask to speak to a chef at any of the table restaurants. We have never had a problem with options. You can let them know at counter service places and they can help you as well. My boys tend to stick to ice cream snacks and desserts simply because they like them - easy option. But, all places have a nut-free option like a brownie.

And although this should go without saying, I'll say it anyway: always carry your Benedryl and Epipen just in case. We've been going every year for the past 8 years and have never had to use either. My boys have never left WDW hungry or unsatisfied ;)

We have had many successful meals at WDW with our PA kid. TS are really not hard at all.A chief will come out before they will bring you any food and assist you in making choices. Some breads are not safe, but they have others that are. Most foods are safe, or can be made safe, most desserts are not. DS mostly gets the vanilla ice cream with sprinkles and is ok with that. Do your research for mickey bars. It's Nestle's. We are ok with them but some people are not. The pre-packaged safe cookies are available some places and are a good choice. Most CS places do not have a lot of safe dessert choices so we often skip dessert there and get him a Popsicle ( Nestle's-do your research) a bit later. There is sometimes someone available at CS but always a food allergy binder you can read. Prepared for it to take a bit longer. We have had no trouble with non-disney places though some people have. We had GREAT care at RFC.

For those that still carry benedryl, I remind to check with their doctors. The general guidelines for giving benedryl have changed and many doctors, are now changing action plans to reflect going straight to epi and not to give benedryl so if it has been awhile since a visit to your allergy doctor, give him a call to discuss. They have discovered that the most often fatal part of an reaction is not breathing, but a severe drop in BP and the symptoms of that are very close to the side effects of benedryl. Chances are you all know this but my allergy group is big on spreading the word so I do every chance I get. Don't change anything without taking to you doctor!!!!

The restaurants in the following World Showcase pavilions ARE operated by Disney:

Canada
Britain
Norway
Germany
USA (Liberty Inn - not the funnel cake stand)

We've dined at many places with great success in EPCOT: Sunshine Seasons, Le Cellier (Canada), Rose and Crown (UK), and some other place in the Land pavilion. If you walk out the International Gateway, you can find more restaurants on the Boardwalk and surrounding hotels as well, just a few minutes walk away.

Every (Disney-owned) table service restaurant in WDW will be able to accommodate peanut allergies, with a wide variety of menu items to choose from.

Quick service locations will have allergy binders you can look at and check ingredients on, but cannot guarantee there will be anything safe on their menu. There is a list of quick service places that have dedicate allergy-friendly items in the back you can request. The list is on the Special Diets section of the WDW website.

For desserts in EPCOT, there is a wide selection of allergy-friendly treats (read labels!!) at Sunshine Seasons in the Land Pavilion. Rose and Crown made us a nice fruit cobbler dessert two years ago - just ask the chef if there's something you want and they'll let you know if it's safe and/or possible. We have more than just peanut allergies, so I cannot speak to other desserts that may be safe. Many places have Namaste allergy-friendly cake mix to make individual cakes for dessert. Other places have offered us pre-packaged items such as Enjoy Life cookies.

Best dessert on WDW property: whatever Chef TJ can make for you at Trail's End. His desserts are epic! (Believe me on that one. His allergy-friendly meals are amazing too.)

We've always had a fantastic experience at every table service in WDW, even the World Showcase. Our faves at Epcot are Le Cellier (filet is great!) and Garden Grill. At MK, Chef Ken at The Plaza was wonderful and could be a sit-down you could pay OOP. I second the recommendation on the cinnamon rolls (we call them "loaves" because they're HUGE) at Gaston's Tavern! At AK, the chef at Tusker House made my son a turkey sandwich in the kitchen and brought him a couple of packages of the chocolate chip cookies that were safe. He told us his child had a strawberry allergy, so he was very accommodating. DHS is the hardest one for us with table service, but we did well at Brown Derby and the chef at Sci-Fi dine in was fantastic. We always bring cheez-its in our backpack and almost every sit-down serves ice-cream that is safe, so he never feels like he's been deprived. WDW is one of the best places to vacation when you have any type of food allergy!
