Where we ate President's Week and MHO about it:
All Star Sports Food Court - Not that great. Food is so so. Crowds (this was for breakfast) were very heavy, messy and very noisy. It gave the whole place a disorganized feeling, its very big and I couldn't wait to get out of there.
House of Blues in Downtown Disney - DH had the All Beef Blues Burger with bacon and cheese (very dietetic (sp?) He thought was very good.
Kids had Crispy Fried Chicken Tenders and Ceasar Salad - all liked them alot.
I had a side of rosemary cornbread and the sweet potato soup. Soup was very good, but too small of a cup for the price at 3.95, and it wasn't even filled up. I wasn't crazy about the corn bread - first - it had corn kernels in it, I prefer the bread without them. Second, it wasn't warmed or very moist - wouldn't buy it again. However, I would eat there again - it's a fun place and overall family rating was good.
Big River Grille & Brewing Works at Boardwalk - Very Very Good! I had The Grilled Chicken Cashew Salad and loved it - delicious! Hubby had the Hazelnut Crusted Chicken in a sun-dried cherry sauce with garlic mashed potatoes and veggie of the day - it was his favorite meal of the trip! Definitely a place we will go to again. (Note: you can eat at the bar - (non smoking) if you don't want to waiit for a table - we diid - it wasn't noisy at all and the service was great)
LeCellier Steakhouse in Canada Pavillion - Can you say amazing?
This is my all time favorite restaurant (in the entire world). We had a very late lunch instead of dinner (less expensive) The cheese soup is so delicious - although up to $5 a cup - however, I'll order it every time - it's so good! Bread sticks were very very fresh - one a pretzel bread, one a sourdough bread, and one a multigrain bread. My favorite was the sourdough, husbands was the multigrain, ohhh soo good. DH had the French Dip Sandwich and loved it, couldn't say enough about it. I had the best meal of my life! It was the Pan Seared Beef Tenderloin Tips over Horseradish and Sweet Potato Gratinee finished with a veal demi glace. Oh my gosh, was this sooo delicious. The meat was cooked to perfection according to my requests. There was not one fatty or tough peice in the whole dish. Service was great - beer was ice cold (I had a LaBatt Blue). I can't say enough about this restaurant - if you have the opportunity to go, try it, I doubt you'll be disappointed. Note: Make a PS ahead of time, they were turning down walk ins, only seating PS as they were booked up and this was a late lunch, not even dinner (3:50 p.m.)
Offsite - Olive Garden in Crossroads Center - what can I say, same thing different place - not bad food - lousy service.
Olivia's Cafe - Kids ate there with best friend, also for late lunch - DS had turkey sandwich - he like it just fine. DD and BF had double decker sandwiches with ham and liked them very much. DH and I met them for dessert, DH had chocolate ice cream with raspberry sauce, he loved it, kids had sundaes, all of them were happy
I HAD to try the keylime tart everyone talks about. It was very good for what it is - tart - it was a tad to tart for me. Graham crust was really good!
Ohana's at Polyensian Resort- really delicious - this meal is served family style all you care to eat. I didn't like the shrimp wontons - I'm not a seafood person, and I missed the veggie dumplings they used to have. I liked very much the green beans and the salad, I also really like the dips. DH and kids liked the rice, but I thought it was salty. The meats were all very good, but my favorite was the smoked turkey - it was tender and tasty and cooked perfectly. My DHs favorite meat was the steak, also cooked to his request (well done), my DD's fav was the pork! My son's the prawn! How's that for satisfying the whole family! The dessert that comes with the all you care to eat meal is pineapple with caramel sauce - yummy yummy! To top it off we had a view of the Wishes fireworks over the castle, and then the water pageant parade! Very relaxing, & no crowds!
Hollywood & Vine at MGM - (part of the Fantasmic Dinner Package). I learned that when one books a Fantasmic Dinner Package dinner, the ps time is early - between 3:30 and 4:30 (I think it starts as early as 3:30 anyway). We had a 3:50. Fantasmic was at 7:00 only that evening. Hollywood and Vine was very crowded, lots of people trying to walk in. Again they were only taking those with PS's probably to complete their Dinner Package seatings. We were seated about 4:20, but had a shaded table outside across the street while we waited. After being seated at our table the waiter introduced himself - we had a waiter named Nick from Manhattan, NY - really nice guy, very attentive, even with a full restaurant. He refilled our drinks often, as well as taking away dirty dishes. The food was very very good. I really like the creamed corn bread and the turkey pot roast. My family loved the roasted chicken and the sliced steak and gravy. There was so much food, that I was thinking I'd just take alittle of this and a little of that, but by the time I got to the end of the buffet my plate was loaded! I'd eat here again, well worth it, and although it was a full restaurant it was not noisy or too crowded feeling as the tables are spaced nicely, and again service was very good. By the time we left the restaurant, we had just enough time to enjoy Walt Disney, One Man's Dream (walk through attraction about WD with a film autobiography at the end - VERY glad I did this - very informative and very interesting about the man who started it all). Kids were out and about on the wild rides. We had to be at the back entrance to Fantasmic by Oscar's Garage in the beginning of the park no later than 6:30. We got there a few minutes before that, and were taken straight into the stadium and seated! So worth doing the package, and it is not priced extra for the early seating arrangements at the show!
Whispering Canyon Cafe - DH and I chose this restaurant at the Wilderness Lodge for lunch because it is DH's favorite hotel on property and we haven't been here in awhile. Since it was just the two of us I asked for a "quiet" table when we arrived. The CM behind the desk said in Whispering Canyon Cafe there are no quiet tables! But still sat us "off the beaten path", which was toward the back of the restaurant on the side, overlooking that beautiful lobby. Our server (don't remember his name) was very upbeat with a cute sense of humor, as is the way at this eatery. He teased us alittle, but also "got it" that we weren't there for the ongoings. When the place got going you could hear some hollering and laughing and singing along and it was definitely fun and different to hear and witness it all, but nice that we didn't feel like we "had" to participate. It was not a full capacity when we were there for lunch in early afternoon, but still had quite a few children who really enjoyed hopping around on stick horses and singing along. Okay, onto the food - I have to say, another great meal. DH had the "Famous Canyon Skillet All You Care to Eat" lunch which consists of smoked pork ribs, oven roasted chicken, pork sausage, beans, corn on cob, creamy coleslaw, yukon gold mashed potatoes and fresh delicious corn bread! He thought everything was delicious, with the exception of the sausage, not because it wasn't good, but because he generally does not like sausage. He especially liked the ribs and I thought the corn bread was one of the best I've ever had. I ordered the Little Nutty Chicken Salad with marinated grilled (to perfection I might add) chicken breast, cheddar cheese (just the right amount), candied walnuts - um yum! - and honey roasted walnut vinaigrette (delicious!) I also asked for extra dressing on the side, but did not really need it, and red onion on the salad which was delivered as requested! It came with a slice of bread, but I was so into the corn bread, I don't remember what kind the salad came with, nor did I eat it. It was a huge salad! DH was on his second helping of ribs and corn on cob and I still had 1/2 my salad to go! I would definitely do this restaurant again. Lunch prices were very reasonable, atmosphere was great, food yummy!
IHOP - on 192 - just IHOP - but you definitely know when you are not in Disney anymore - traffic, crowds, not all that clean, some very cranky people, etc.
Port Orleans Riverside Food Court - I was very impressed. It was very pretty, very clean, very organized even though it was pretty full of people. Very good food, I had the combo chicken/rib platter without the potatoes - chose the greens instead - I'm not even sure of what they were, but they were definitely good. DD had a side salad and a huge burger, not like her with the burger, but it was vacation! Her friend had cheese fries and a burger and loved them. I believe DS had chicken and mac and cheese, which he said was the best and creamiest he ever had. The prices were reasonable, and it was so much quieter and more organized and relaxing than at the All Stars (which I basically think at the All Stars it was the amount of people and kids, not the management - it's very hard to keep up on such crowds!)
And finally, last but not least by any means - The Kitchen Sink at Beaches & Cream!! Yes - we are certified Kitchen Sink completers! The kids really wanted to do this, I have to say as yummy as it was, I only dabbled and tasted, too much for me! But, my kids and their friend went to town! Husband loved the hot fudge, kids loved the whole thing. It is 8 scoops of ice cream, not bad considering we were a party of 5 - it's all the stuff they put ON the ice cream that makes it so LARGE! I think next time around I'll stick with a plain scoop of vanilla with alittle hot fudge - but doing the Kitchen Sink was definitley a good memory!
Can you tell we ate ALOT - even though with the exception of two days, we only ate one LARGE meal a day. I stayed away from snacking and too much ice cream but definitely left a couple of lbs heavier! I say that with a smile - we really didn't have a bad meal anywhere and DH was very happy, quite an accomplishment for a picky eater! Sorry so long, hope this helps with some of your dining plans!
