I can post this in allergies as well, but thought I'd try here first. It's our first (and probably only) trip to Disneyland. We are only going to be there for 2 days and are staying at the Disneyland Hotel. Any suggestions on restaurants we should definitely hit (but keeping in mind we have a gf allergy...and this kiddo is also a vegetarian and a dairy allergy). Thanks!

A friend's daughter has very severe allergies (contact with wheat, dairy, etc) and diabetes. They had wonderful experiences at Storytellers Cafe (at Grand Californian Hotel). They called ahead and spoke to the chef, I think. It was the first time her daughter had eaten in a restaurant (she was 10) and it totally made her trip.

They also packed a lot of safe foods to eat for snacks, etc.

Haven't been to Disneyland, but if Disney is Disney, then go wherever you want and just make sure it's noted that you have allergies and would like to speak with the chef. If Cali is anything like WDW, the chef will come out, talk with you and come up with a safe meal for everyone to have.

My daughter is allergic to eggs, milk and peanuts. We always do quick service (well, except for last trip when we did the Minnie and Friends breakfast - the allergy food was subpar) and our favorites are Cocina Cucamonga (DCA) for Mexican food, most any burger place for fries (unsure of safe meatless options, but fries are safe for both allergies, as my sister is also gluten free), and (our new favorite) Pizza Port for dairy-free (their allergy crust is also gluten-free) pizza. Lucky Fortune Cookery (DCA) also has gluten-free teriyaki sauce (special order, of course) and dairy wasn't an issue there.

I didn't like Rancho del Zocalo. We have tried several times and they just didn't seem to know what they were doing or care how the food tasted.

Disney is wonderful with allergies and intolerances. I've never been glutened at DLR. Many places now have allergy menus that specify dishes that are acceptable for GF and the major allergens. You can order 'direct' or still have a chef/manager come out and discuss with you. Table Service places are phenomenal at creating off-the-menu dishes catering to special diets.

I'm Celiac so GF only, this is for your GF kid:

You have to ask about fries, because not every location has a dedicated fryer. Carnation Cafe used to have one and doesn't anymore. It could change anywhere where there has been one before as well.

CS places are supposed to have a binder behind the counter that lists ingredients and allergens. Ask to see the binder so that you can check for possible ingredient problems. Ask every time at different locations because suppliers change and information from a previous visit or from someone else online may no longer be accurate at the time of your next visit. If a CM doesn't understand your question or won't let you see the binder (maybe the CM is new and doesn't know about it), ask for a lead. Also, it helps to try to eat at off peak hours so that the staff won't be super busy when you are there. They will have more time to answer your questions and to help you if they aren't swamped with other guests' orders.

This, absolutely!! We pretty much always eat at 'odd' times when using CS and find our experience to be much better when we do so.

Our kid was egg and dairy free as a toddler, and DL made it easy. At sit down restaurants, we could often consult the wait staff or even the chef and they would adapt pretty easily, right down to egg-free and dairy-free mickey waffles and pancakes.

My friend was just here with her GF kid and her DF kid. She said they had a very easy time navigating. She said every restaurant they tried had gluten free buns/bread/pasta so her daughter was able to eat regular menu just making that substitution. She said for dairy free, very easy also. Every restaurant had options for her DF daughter on the main menu. If your friend has picky eaters, that might be more of a problem.

Jolly Holiday bakery.... awesome.

I would contact guest services before your trip if there are any restaurants you really want to do, they might be able to help you coordinate something ahead of time considering you are dealing with gluten & dairy allergies with a vegetarian requirement. We have a gluten & dairy allergy & she's able to dine anywhere. We usually ask to speak to a chef to make sure we aren't making a mistake with her order (gluten allergy- not celiac). Disneyland used to be amazing with allergies but last trip they kept just giving us an allergy menu & the servers were lazy about answering our q's so we had to request a chef come out. (The allergy menus can be kinda limited.) Once a chef was out it was a lot easier for everyone! But definitely review menus before going so you know what you're interested in.

I had a couple of different sandwiches, plus the matterhorn macaroon (more than once lol) GF...... I believe they will make any sandwich gf for you,and you can check the special menu for other options. It might have been the best sandwich I've ever eaten in my life....

FWIW, Award Weiners has GF options also.... along with those delicious homemade fries..... I can't remember what it was called but they have a menu also

We generally have an easy time with our GF requests for my husband. I prefer to do TS, so I just make a note of it when we reserve. At buffet meals, the chef comes out and walks my husband around to different items and they will make him items and bring them to the table. I think it's Hungry Bear that has GF fries. He usually gets the grilled cheese at Jolly Holiday (won't work for your dairy free), but they might be able to do a veggie sandwich on the gf bread? He likes the Mickey Waffles at Carnation. Cafe Orleans is another stop for us that usually has several options. The only time he has ever gotten sick was at Blue Bayou during the Halloween party dinner. I have found that talking to the server helps and they always try to make things work. Starbucks has a brownie and a muffin that come in sealed packages that are gf too. Rancho del Zacalo has gf options as well.

Is this new?? The Matterhorn macaroon has never been gf when I have been there.
