dining solo... lets discuss..

Has anyone tried solo dining at Teppan Edo? Isn't that still more like 'communal dining' with entertainment: the chef? It has been years since I ate at the Biergartern in the Germany -- is that still communal?

First solo trip: May, 2011. :woohoo:

I tried Teppan Edo solo once-never again will I do solo dining at a communal table. Unfortunately, I got seated next to a teenager who very obviously had encountered her worst nightmare by being seated next to me-a cute teenaged boy would have been so much better. My efforts to ask her questions and be friendly were met with monosyllabic grunts, which I recognize from my high school teaching days. When the meal was over, I don't know which of us was more anxious to leave. The meal dragged for both of us and it was too loud to talk to anyone else at the table. It was probably just poor luck to get seated next to someone so unfriendly, but I'd rather not chance it again.

How easy do you think it might be to get LAST MINUTE solo dining at the bar in the Prime Time Cafe at DHS ?

Just did it last week. As other poster said, the bar at the Tune In Lounge can be filled with people waiting for their table, so you just have to patiently lurk until a seat becomes available. The bartenders do tend to be super busy as they are providing the drinks for the restaurant, but they are usually very friendly and accomodating (I order the Ceaser salad for dinner even though it's only on the lunch menu and they get it for me with no problem). Also, I have noticed that a lot of CMs and locals tend to hang out here as well so I usually find some interesting conversation.

I eat out by myself all the time at home, so it's no different on vacation. I've got just as much a right to be there as couples and I feel no self-consciousness about it whatsoever. I love to eat in any case so there's no way I would allow being solo to stop me. Actually, I enjoy it........For those who are solo, I hope you allow yourselves to relish some quiet time and not be afraid to dine with a crowd. Truly, no one is paying attention to you if you're worried about that and you deserve to treat yourself!

I didn't realize the Tune In Lounge served food. That's good to know. :goodvibes And I agree with Betsyp, when eating out solo most people don't notice. If you are not comfortable, bring a book to read or notebook and make notes about your day's adventures up to that point.

ps: to Betsyp - I am also a Betsy P :thumbsup2

Bets - One can order food at most Disney bars that are attached to restaurants. Some - like Tune in - just use the menu from the attached restaurant (50s Prime Time Cafe). Others - like the Rose and Crown Pub, have their own smaller menu, but one could probably order off the main menu if they asked. The key to remember is that Cast Members are taught to try to accomodate guest requests if at all possible, so they try very hard not to say no!

Becky (whose sister is Betsy and also goes by Bets or Elizabeth or Betsy depending on when you first met her!)

I eat out alone often, at home and I do most of my travel solo. I have found that my iphone and ipod totally changed my solo dinning. I my a audio book addict and always have a couple of new books loaded onto my ipod and I down load pod castes as well. I listen while I am eating, I make sure to take out my ear buds when my server is at my table! Plus playing with all the apps on my iphone up dating facebook, posting on the boards;) People don't notice you as much as you think they do! Sometimes I prefer eating alone, because it can be so relaxing.

Exactly! People don't notice, or I don't notice them noticing. Either way, who cares if they look at you? You're at Disney World! So are they, and they should be thinking about that instead of staring at who is eating alone!

I can't wait to use my iPad on this trip. Be it sitting at a bar or waiting on my table. I thoroughly enjoy solo trips!

LOL. For some reason this thread reminds me of the movie Hope Floats where Harry Connick Jr talks to Sandra about eating alone - "The trick is to seem mysterious. Like the choice is yours." :cool2:

Aww, I do hope this wasn't meant to be rude. I think the "hope floats" reference was pretty clever. . . . . . and it was a good movie (who cares about the critics;))-----very heartfelt and endearing. I wish more men were as sweet as Harry Jr.'s character.

Back to OP's original question----do what you are comfortable with. There are more solo diners in WDW than, I'm sure, we even realize. The CM's see it all of the time and are very rarely put off by the idea of a solo diner. Enjoy yourself!!!!

LOL! You know it!!! :goodvibes Actually it is Sandra Bullock - have been a big fan of hers for a long time so I try and see a lot of what she acts in. And that scene made me think of we solo diners - looks like I will soon be one at Le Cellier - excited to try it for my first time since I hear so much about it.

But the choice is mine! :goodvibes
