Dining rotation question

I keep seeing dining rotations mentioned with PAL or some other initials. What does it all mean?

They are usually the first character in the name of each restaurant on board. I think PAL would be referring to Parrot Cay/Animator's Palate/Lumiere's. I've only been on the Wonder so they had Parrot Cay, Animator's Palate, and Trintos with Palo as an optional adults restaurant.

When you check in you get your KTTW ( keys to the world) and they have your dining rotation on them, this tells you what restaurant you are in on which night, for example if your key says LAP you will dine first night in Lumieres , then in Animators Palette and on third night in Parrot Cay and so on , people like to know this so they can work out what restaurant they may be in for formal night and which restaurant night to miss if booking a meal in palos. If you have concierge or book the romance at sea package i understand you get to choose your rotation preference.

My understanding is that if you are doing the WDW/DCL Land and Sea package you will not have the rotation on you KTTW card. In this case you will have to go to your stateroom and get your dinning rotation information there.

The rotations and be loosely pronounced "apple" which makes it easy to remember the order they rotate in....from there, you just need to know where you start. I know it sounds dumb, but our server mentioned this once, and it has helped me to keep track ever since.

PAL isn't a rotation (unless things have changed in the last 4 months). If you started in Parrot, you would be PLA--Parrot, Lumiere's, Animator's.

Which rotation you are on is loosely based on the age of the youngest child in your group. There is one rotation of primarily toddlers, one of "middle kids, and one of mainly teens and adults. The computer draws the splits based on the ages of the children on any given cruise. Realize that this is only a rough estimate as people who purchase the REAS package can request a specific rotation--actually, anyone can request a rotation, but you may not get the request. We always request a specific server, and are happy with any rotation that he is on for that cruise.

As a general rule, late seating has fewer young ones than early.....school breaks have more school aged children, etc...

Is there a set schedule for which nights the formal and semi-formal are on for the Eastern? I thought i read somewhere that it goes like this: Saturday casual, Sunday formal, Monday casual, Tuesday Tropical/Pirates, Wednesday casual, Thursday semi-formal, Friday casual. It this how it goes? If so, it looks like there's no hope for me to have formal night in Lumieres.
