Here’s what we ate….and ate, and ate. It was my mom, dh, myself, dd-8 and ds-6.

Wednesday 8/3

Lunch- Sunshine Seasons- DM and I had the sweet and sour chicken, DD had chicken and potatoes, DS and DH had subs. Everything was good. I wish I had gotten a kids meal though. The rice and chicken portions looked to be about the same, only it came with veggies and a fortune cookie AND a drink for less money!

Dinner- Ohana Best dinner of the trip. Service was superb, and the food was excellent. Our cousin made sure to let us know that we could have refills of anything and came back several times during each course to see if we needed anything. It seems as though these family style meals are made for a family of four and we had 5 people so we always ran out. The wings were amazing and we did order an extra plate of pineapple and caramel. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was the coffee crème brulee. The custardy part was a little warm and the coffee flavor was too strong. Dh also got a Lapu Lapu, which we ended up sharing. It’s a good thing we didn’t all each get one because we would have been drunk! They are very heavy on the rum, and light on the pineapple juice, but still delicious. The kids were also thrilled with the generous portion of gummy worms they got after the broomstick races. DS also turned his nose up at the appetizers, then ordered a grilled cheese and fries, but still ate some steak and pork when it arrived.

Thursday 8/4

Lunch- Beaches and Cream- Burgers all around here except me- I had the grilled chicken Ceasar salad. It was very yummy! I really don’t think I’ve ever had a better Ceasar salad anywhere. I am one that likes a lot of dressing though, so others might find the dressing overkill. The kids got the cookies with their meal and shared the Milky Way Sundae with me. Dh had a chocolate milkshake and DM had a vanilla cone. Everyone was pleased with this meal.

Dinner- Garden Grill First, I wanted to mention that during our Garden Tour that morning, a woman mentioned that she had eaten there the night prior and it was the best meal of her whole trip, so I was pleased to hear something positive. All 5 of us ordered the Prime Rib at this one, and we all enjoyed it! The potatoes were excellent, and what is being described as “3 green beans” on this board was actually asparagus and carrots for us. Dh didn’t care for the wine sauce that the prime rib is in, but my extremely picky 6 y.o. ds did. We liked the breadsticks, the salad, the dipping sauces, the chocolate fondue desserts (the pineapple was certainly fresh, not canned). Again, the dessert came out with 4 of everything on it and we were offered another plate, which we took. The server did seem to have quite a few tables, and drink refills weren’t as often as we would have liked, but it was never more than a minute or two. (Whereas everywhere else they are bringing out refills before you are even finished the first one.) Character interaction was also really good. The 5 of us were seated at a table for 4, with a chair stuck on the end. This really isn’t the best place for that kind of set-up, as there is not more than 4 feet between the edge of the table and the wall. Characters were Chip, Dale, Mickey and Pluto. To be fair, this was our first time at this place, so I can’t compare it to the old way.

Friday 8/5

Breakfast- Marketplace at BC- We all had the make your own fruit and yogurt parfaits there. They were really good! (Although I would rather not have peanuts in my yogurt.)

Lunch was Mickey and Minnie bars because we had an early dinner.

Dinner- Fantasmic Package at Hollywood and Vine- We hat the 4:00 seating which turned out to be ok because it started pouring right around 3:50. We were seated at a small table for 4 by the back door, which was ok, because we had the corner to ourselves, but, the water was leaking onto the mat from the rain outside, and the mat was saturated. The service here was really good, surprisingly. Our server, Allie, was very attentive and even chatted with us a few times. DH was thrilled to find Yuengling beer there. The food here was pretty good for a buffet. It wasn’t anyone’s favorite meal, but we all agreed that we’d do it again. We were given our Fantasmic pass before she even took drink orders. Then at the end, dh asked about the DDE and she said it was fine. She came back with our modified check and said that she was supposed to tell us that they don’t normally do the DDE discount for the Fantasmic Package, but that they were giving it to us anyway. We walked out when it was drizzling and still got a curb spot for the parade, which was delayed about 15 minutes, but still went on. We arrived at 8:30 for the 9:00 show and there was hardly anyone there yet. Disney is certainly advertising this package now, as it is in the park map for MGM. The reserved rope wasn’t dropped until about 8:55, and by then the section was pretty full.

Saturday 8/6

Breakfast- Donald’s Breakfastosaurus- We arrived for Early Entry at the AK, and while on our way to KS, dh called to see if we could get a PS. We got one for 9:30 which was perfect. The last time we came here, it was our first trip and our kids were 2 and 4 and really into characters. Both service and character interaction was poor. This time, we went simply because we were hungry and there weren’t many options. The food was really good, the service was really good, but the character interaction is still poor. I still feel as thought this restaurant is way too large for a breakfast character buffet. Two of the characters came right away, and when we were finished eating, the other two weren’t even in our room yet. We waited because DS really wanted to, but we had definitely been ready to leave 20 minutes before we actually did. Characters were Donald, Pluto, Mickey, and Goofy

Lunch- Hot Dogs and Fries from one of the McDonalds stands

Dinner- Boma I guess I just don’t get it. I tried. I know everyone on the DIS seems to love this place. None of our group really had anything bad to say about any meal of our trip other than this one. I did try the coconut chicken curry soup, which was good, and the carrot ginger, which was gross. I tried one of the salad dressings and it tasted like watery baby food. I did taste the pap, which was ok, but is it supposed to be that pasty/boogery consistency or was it just sitting out too long? We also liked the fufu, which seemed like sweet potatoes. Thank goodness for the chicken fingers and the wonderful desserts. I saw quite a few adults eating chicken fingers and fries. We all had a full plate of desserts at the end to make up for the bad food, so at least we left full. One thing we were happy about was that we were seated at a table for 6, not 4! Later we heard people on the bus complaining about that resort because they felt isolated from all the parks and all the food was terrible!

Sunday 8/7

Lunch- Princess Storybook Lunch at Restaurant Akershus- Okay, was a little worried about pleasing the group after last night’s disappointment and after hearing how bad this one was. Wow, we were pleasantly surprised. Most of the appetizers were ok, we loved the potato salad, although the cold scrambled eggs and raw salmon were atrocious. We did like the smoked herring. The server did explain to us that it was still all you can eat and we could order several entrees to try, but we each just ordered our own. I had the traditional Kjottkaker and it was really yummy, especially the potatoes. DH had the salmon, which he said was good (he made sure to verify that it would be cooked, LOL). DS didn’t like his Uncrustable- It was too much PB, so she brought him out a hot dog. The Rice Cream was to die for, and we ordered seconds. We were sat right at the door where the characters came out, and some of them even stopped on their way back in. It was wonderful, and we had 5 princesses. After Aurora, Belle, Ariel, and Jasmine had left, we were all surprised when Cinderella came through the door! Service was also really good and our server made me pronounce Kjottkaker before she’d let me order it. LOL We’d definitely go back here!

Dinner- Rose and Crown We had a 7:50 PS and not only were we outside, but we were at a table right at the lagoon, probably the best view in the whole place. It had been raining earlier and all the plastic things were down, but they wound them up right before Illuminations. Wow, you can’t get a better view than that! Drinks were a half yard of Guiness, a Strawberry Daiquiri, a Pina Colada, and 2 virgin daiquiris for the kids. Adults had cottage pie, ds had fish and chips, of which he only ate the chips, and dd had bangers and mash. Kids had make your own sundaes, I had trifle, dm had the toffee cake which I tasted and was delish, and dh had the guinness chocolate cake. Our desserts came during Illuminations, but nobody ate until afterwards, and we did not feel rushed. I told the server that I was sad that there was no Bailey’s Crème Brule (one of the reasons I booked this meal!) and she said it had been her favorite and she was sad, too.

Monday 8/8

Lunch- Pecos Bill’s- Wow, what a fantastic find. We just happened to go to this place because it was serving lunch already (The lack of food court at the YC was a tad bit inconvenient.) We ordered two of the bacon double cheeseburgers with extra buns, and this was plenty for my 4, and mom had the barbeque sandwich. We all loved the extensive fixing’s bar, and especially the free cheese for the fries.

Dinner- Cinderella’s Royal Table- Cinderella was in the lobby when we checked in, but not when we checked out. I think that she is only there in between Cinderellabration shows, even though she was wearing her blue, not her white, dress in the lobby. We checked in about 30 mins early, but still weren’t seated until after our PS time. The food was good here, but I think the high prices are more for the atmosphere. I had the airplane (airline?) chicken with the bread pudding which was excellent, dh had prime rib, kids had pretzel dogs, and I can’t remember what mom had. With no alcohol, and no appetizers, this was still our most expensive meal of the whole trip. The presentation of the slipper seems to have been dumbed down a little, as it looks like every person in there was ordering it. The slipper is still on the cake, with the raspberry sauce and berries just thrown on the side, not in the fancy swirls like I have seen on the food pics thread. The plate also seems smaller. It was just a square plate, and it didn’t say Happiest Celebration on Earth. Also, one of the reasons I booked this was for the cute capuccino crème brulee, which is no longer there, but the key lime crème brulee was excellent.

Tuesday 8/9

Breakfast- Cape May Café- Characters were Minnie, Goofy, Chip, Dale. Food was good, characters were excellent. Minnie came by our table at least 3 times, and on 2 occasions played tic tac toe with the kids. Service was below average, but not terrible. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here, but it is good for those staying at the YC/BC. The dining room wasn’t even half full.

Lunch- Beaches and Cream- Burgers again, but we mainly went for the Kitchen Sink. 8 scoops may not seem like a lot of ice cream for 5 people, but there are so many toppings in this thing!!! They are not kidding- there is every cake and cookie and topping imaginable in that thing. I even had quite a few of the candied orange slices that are normally in a frozen sunshine. The kids were happy with the big deal that was made when she brought it out. We were the only people that ordered it in the 1.5 hours we were there. I’d say we finished a little more than half. It was so good, we wanted to keep eating, but we just couldn’t!! Service was great here and we had the same woman both times we went. Since drinks are over $2 a piece, we really saved here with our mugs.

Dinner- Room service at Yacht Club- Chicken fingers and fries were slightly below average, but it was after midnight. They accidentally brought us one too many meals and let us keep the extra for free. Mom was happy with her turkey sandwich. The mousekeeper brought a ton of those cute little bottles of ketchup, which we brought home. Kids were happy because they got the chocolate Tinkerbell puzzles. Ds didn’t like the chocolate cupcake. :confused3

Wednesday 8/10

Lunch- Croissants in France, Fish and Chips- everyone was happy. Strawberry mousse from France was also really good. We all just wanted to grab something quick before catching Disney’s Magical Express back to the airport. The kids decided it needed to be called the Un-Magical Express for the trip back, since there’s certainly nothing magical about leaving!

Dinner- McDonalds at MCO

Also somewhere in all this was Dole Whip floats, Popcorn, chocolate covered Mickey pretzels, candy from Goofy’s and Toll House Ice Cream Sandwiches! Dh ordered his Dole whip float with chocolate and vanilla twist ice cream and pineapple juice. The girl CM at the counter said that was gross. I had to laugh because I’ve never heard a CM say anything negative like that. He said it was still really good though! The rest of us stuck to pineapple ice cream with pineapple juice.

We called the day before we left to order DDE and our temporary cards were waiting at Epcot the next day. The interesting thing is that I am the only one with the AP, yet they still gave me two cards- one for me, and one for DH. He was even allowed to pick them up at Guest Relations without me present. This card paid for itself before the end of the second day! What a great deal. We generally tipped the 20% discount, give or take a few dollars. We spent around $1,600 on food for 3 adults, 2 kids, for 8 days, so not sure what the dining plan costs, but we liked having no restrictions on what we ate. You would also have to add back in the AP discount ($75/night-value season) on the room to accurately compare the price. Another reason we didn’t book a package was because we wanted 8 day park-hoppers, which Disney doesn’t sell directly.

Thanks bunches for the reviews! Sounds like a wonder trip with lots of good meals!

Thanks for your honesty about Boma...I am planned to get ADR's for dinner there because my husband wants to try it. I have never eaten there and the pictures of the food don't really look that great. I looked on allearsnet.com at the menu and I don't know what half of the food on there is...the only thing that sounds good are the zebra domes. Maybe I can talk my DH into going somewhere else for dinner.

I am planning on going for breakfast there in 12 days and I've heard so many times that it's really expensive now they already taken $15 from my credit card cause that's the only way they'll book and I heard that it's $ 10 or 11 for kids and $21 for adults now to me that's not expensive so I was wondering if that's a lie. I have ps for my daughter and I'm thinking of letting my neice come along so please if possible can you tell me how much it cost. Thank you

That sounds about right for the breakfast, since it is an all you can eat, fixed price meal. We did dinner, which is a non-character, non all you can eat meal. We did the breakfast in the castle the last two trips and decided to not even try for it this time. The first time we went though, it was our first day in the parks, first trip as a family. It was purely magical.

Well chicken ceasar salad wasn't on my list of things to eat there, but now it is!! I am on a quest to find the world's best Chicken Ceasar Salad :cool1:

Great review!! You answered a few questions I didn't know I had until then and I got some great ideas for where to eat :)

Cool reviews. Can you tell me what the food was like at Cape May breakfast ? Does it compare with Chef Mickeys ?

Wonderful reviews, thanks for putting so much detail into them! :cool1: I'm glad you enjoyed Restaurant Akershus. :) It was one of my favorite restaurants (before it turned into a character meal) and I just decided to go ahead and make an ADR for dinner because I love it so much. I'm actually looking forward to eating with the Princesses! :wizard:

Enjoyed reading your review ~ Thanx for posting.

Thanks for the wonderful reviews. I especially enjoyed reading a positive review of Garden Grill for once. Maybe they are starting to iron out some of the kinks.

I've only actually been to Chef Mickey's for dinner, but I thought the breakfast at Cape May had pretty good choices. When you walk in, there is a pretty good pastry/donut section. Then there is the usual eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, breakfast pizza, potatoes, mickey waffles, cereal, fresh fruit, a fruit salad, cottage cheese and what I thought was odd- near the hot stuff there is asparagus. Is that a traditional breakfast food?

What a great and detailed review! Thanks! Isn't it funny how people have such totally opposite opinions of the same place--(I LOVE Boma and was so disappointed by Garden Grille)--guess that's how all these places stay in business!
Don't you just love eating your way around the World? We'll never be a family who brings in PB&J sandwiches--the food is such a big part of the WDW experience for us!
Again, thanks for the excellent reviews. Makes me hungry! :flower:

Thanks for the reviews!
Magicmouse2, we actually prefer breakfast at Cape May to Chef Mickeys. The food was better and it is more relaxed.

The dining plan would have been approx. $1000:
3A x $35 x 8 nights= $840.00
2C x $10 x 8 nights= $160.00
AP discount ($75 x 8 nights)= $600.00

so...$1600.00. Not counting the $50.00 for the DDE, sounds like it worked pretty well for you, since you will be able to use the DDE in future visits.

BTW, WDW does sell the 8 day hoppers, but I don't think they are available online for some reason.

Thanks for the reviews!
I'm to hear you enjoyed the princess lunch at Akershus. That is the only meal I've had second thoughts about based on the reviews at allears.
I think Boma is really a love it or hate it kind of place. AKL is our favorite resort and Boma is a must do every trip for us. What's really funny is my normally very picky 7 year old ds loves it!
