Dining reviews 2/4 – 2/10

Here are my dining reviews from our vacation

2/4
Breakfast – PSB Norway
We had an 8:45 ressie for this. There was a crowd waiting outside when we got there as they had not opened yet. We checked in and were called within 5 minutes. We were brought inside to have our picture taken (Belle with the yellow dress) then we were shown to our table.

Our waiter immediately took our drink orders and went to get our hot food. Already on the table was a tray of iced cinnamon buns and cut up fruit. The cinnamon buns looked gross – but they were actually really good. My picky 7 yo ate about 4 of them. :thumbsup2

The hot food was great as well – nice and fresh. We had scrambled eggs, potato casserole, biscuits, bacon and sausage.

While eating Snow White, Jasmine, Mary Poppins and Princess Aurora came around to each table. We didn’t feel rushed at all. We left very stuffed and very pleased with this meal. We will definitely be back.

We didn’t have lunch today – which is rare for us – but we never really got hungry after that big breakfast.

Dinner was a 6:40 ressie at ‘Ohana – our first trip since the menu change.

I didn’t care much for the won ton chips – pretty boring IMO. The sauces were fantastic, I liked the peanut sauce the best. The other one was a chimmichuri(SP?) sauce and the third was a spicy red sauce – didn’t catch the name on that.

The wings were fabulous as usual, the vegetables were boring, the potatoes however WOW – VERY VERY good! We gobbled those up. The meat was great although I didn’t care for the sausage and I am a sausage lover. The shrimp had nice flavor but it was way too messy to peel and clean shrimp coated in sauce – what were they thinking?!?!?!?! :confused3

The bread pudding was absolutely amazing. The kids all had macaroni and cheese and hated the bread pudding(thank goodness –more for DH and I) so they had scoops of plain ice cream instead :cheer2:

We waddled down to the Poly dock after this for our wishes cruise. It was freezing – but we bundled up with blankets and had a great time. They had chips and snacks as well as soda on the boat but we were way too full for any of that.

2/5
We had our room stocked with b-fast foods so we had donuts and the likes in the room and headed to MGM.

We were supposed to do Sci-Fi today – however my brother and his family decided to tour with us today so we changed to Prime Time for lunch.

DH and I both had the fried onion rings and the pot roast. The onion rings were VERY greasy, however they were nice thick onions and the coating was nice. The pot roast was just ok IMO. It came with carrots and celery and was served on very bland mashed taters. I’ve definitely made better at home.

The kids had – Mac and Cheese and make your own sundaes – very nice. (We skipped dessert)

I wasn’t impressed the last time we ate here and again wasn’t impressed again. It was just very unremarkable and I can't see myself ever coming back unless we had nowhere else to go.

Dinner was a 6 pm ressie at Rose and Crown.

DH and I had the Potato Leek Soup – VERY nice. I cannot remember what the kids ate but chances are it was Mac and Cheese – lol

DH chose the Fish and Chips and I had something that isn’t on the online menu. It was a nice steak with an herbed horseradish sauce, one piece of fried fish, mashed potatoes and green beans. I cleaned my plate. It was FANTASTIC!

The kids had ice cream for dinner – DH and I split the dessert sampler. It was a small serving of sticky toffee pudding a small serving of the Chocolate Guinesse cake and a small serving of the Apple Crumble. It’s definitely a two person dessert! There’s no way only one of us could have handled all that! The sticky toffee pudding was by far the best of the three! The other two were good – just not great. I also had a flavored coffee.

We’ve been here before and definitely will be coming back.

2/6
The kids had b-fast in the room. I was holding out for something better! We headed over to Soarin first thing this AM and after the ride I grabbed a chocolate croissant(sp?) OH MY!!! It was as cold as could be and it still fantastic! I can only imagine what this would have been like slightly warm with a nice cup of coffee….. I am still having dreams about that little snack!

Lunch was a late one today – we had 2:10 ressies at Le Cellier. This is our first trip to this restaurant. Overall I was not impressed. It was definitely a good meal but I expected better. DH and I both decided that next time we were going to try dinner here..

I had the cheese soup and the French dip sandwich. DH had the beef tenderloin salad. He said his was ok – the meat was great but not nearly enough dressing. My soup was pretty good – nothing to rave about IMO. The breadsticks were good – the pretzel one was my least fav – go figure. I thought the grainy roll was by far the best one of the bunch and I could have eaten quite a few of those had we seen our waitress more often – lol.

My sandwich was ok. Not bad not great – the description makes your mouth water but the sandwich really had no flavor. I just expected more. No dessert and I cannot remember what the kids had but again – chances are it was mac and cheese.

We will definitely be back and give this another shot for dinner sometime.

Dinner was a late ressie at Alfredo’s. DH is Italian so he insists on coming here every trip.

I had Caesar Salad which was good and the veal stew over polenta. The flavor was fantastic however the polenta, while QUITE tasty, was dry and crumbly and I prefer mine moist and creamy. It was still very good though! DH had the Mozzarella ala Caprese and the Fettuccine Alfredo. He cleaned his plate both times. The kids all had Fetticcine Alfredo(AKA Italian Mac and Cheese – lol) For dessert I had the dessert sampler which was great, DH had Cannoli which he said were just ok and the kids had some pink ladybug thing. Overall a good meal. I can do without this one again but DH insists…

This is exactly how we felt about Le Cellier. I had the soup and a burger. My husband and son had the soup and the french dip sandwich. Everything was okay, but nothing to rave about. Everything we had was fine, but nothing special. After reading all the rave reviews about this place, I guess my expectations were high.

Enjoyed reading your reviews ~ Thanx for posting.

B-fast was a quickie in the room again and then we headed off to MK for the day. We did an early lunch at Pinnochio Village Haus(SP?) DH and I had the chicken strips and fries, I gave my fries to the kids (they had Pizza here) and I ordered the Figaro Fries to go with my chicken.

The chicken was VERY good – nice and moist with a crispy coating and the Ken’s Honey Mustard dip they have there is VERY good! The Figaro Fries looked absolutely disgusting - however – they were VERY good! Who would have thought that lettuce and tomatoes on top of cheese fries would taste good? I believe there was mayo on there as well or some other creamy sauce – this was definitely a winner for me!! The kids liked the pizza however I tasted a bite and though the sauce tasted like tomato paste. I never could have eaten more than a bite of this.!

Dinner was at CRT. We arrived a few minutes early, checked in and were escorted inside to wait in line for the picture with Cinderella. The line was long and before it was our turn we were called upstairs. We were told to stay in line and just make our way upstairs when we were done. The line moved quickly – when it was our turn we were told we were allowed two packages so we got one pose with all the kids and one with just DD.

We went upstairs and were seated immediately. When the menus arrived we were disappointed to see that the Major Duomo’s(sp?) Pie was not on the dinner menu. There were only 3 appetizer choices I believe. DH got one which was the BLT salad and I got the soup which was a corn and crab chowder type soup. It was very good but a little salty. I only ate a little bit. DH said his salad was great. For dinner DH got the cheese tortellini and I got thr prime rib. DH said his was very bland and didn’t eat much oif it. Mine was pretty good – but only potatoes and meat – no veggie?!?!?! For the amount o f $$ we paid I expect a vegetable with my meat – lol! The potatoes were very good and the meat was perfect.

Dessert was limited as well – I “think” only 3 choices. We both ended up with the blueberry crumble/buckle or whatever it was. I was a bit nervous about this as I really only like blueberries in muffins and pancakes so I was pleased to see it looked like a muffin. It was served with lemon ice cream and some fresh berries. It was VERY good!!!

We ordered the penne with sauce for the kids and were told that our youngest was only allowed buttered noodles so we ordered that for him. They made a mistake and brought out 3 buttered noodles for all three – didn’t matter because they didn’t eat any of it anyway - lol

Character interaction was minimal here. Suzy and Perla basically just flit around the room – never stopping, definitely no picture opportunities. Then the Fairy Godmother comes out and gives a speech, asks if anybody is celebrating anything special, there’s some flashing lights and boom – done.

For lunch the kids get wands and swords – for dinner the kids get a limited edition litho?!?!? Needless to say – what 7 and 4 yo care about a picture?? We brought them home but chances are they will never make it out of the tube.

We have had lunch and dinner here many times before and I have to say overall I was disappointed. We will never be back for this one. The amount of money we spent was definitely not worth it.

Again b-fast in the room.

We were supposed to eat at the Garden Grill today – one of our favorites – but DH complained that I had too many Epcot days planned – so we headed off to MGM and got a ressie for Mama Melrose for lunch.

We started with the bread with the “sauces” – One was a sundried tomato sauce – the other one appeared to be an olive oil pesto type sauce. It was fairly good – I didn’t like the bread myself but DH and I loved the “sauces”

For an appy DH got the Oven Baked Caprino cheese. This is basically a basil tomato sauce with a soft cheese in it served with crostini. It had a nice flavor – we actually tossed the rest of it into the 4 cheese pasta the kids ordered as that was bland even for them. I had the Caesar Salad – the two bites that actually had dressing on them tasted pretty good – the rest was totally and completely without dressing. The waitress was swamped so we never saw her again until our meals came so I couldn’t even ask for extra dressing.

DH got the chicken parm which isn’t on the menu – he said it was very good. I got the Wood Grilled shrimp over Pipette pasta. I was a bit leary as it was supposed to have the 4 cheese sauce which we had tasted n the kid’s meals and found to be bland but my dish was anything but bland! The shrimp were perfect – nicely cooked, great taste – just amazing – unfortunately there were only 4 small shrimp in the dish – I really wanted more! The sauce was flavorful with the peas, peppers, onions and artichokes. I would definitely order this again.

DH got gelato for dessert and I got the Coffee Tartufo – it sounded better than it was. It wasn’t bad – but it really was just a scoop of ice cream rolled in a bunch of stuff served on a plate with sauce – lol For some reason I expected more than that.

Dinner tonight was a new one for us – Marrakesh.

I am a fairly adventurous eater but this one had me a bit nervous….

DH and I ended up ordering the Marrakesh Feast which came with the Harira soup, Beef Brewat Rolls, Lemon Chicken, Beef Shish Kebab, Couscous with Seven Vegetables, and pastries for dessert.

The soup was VERY good. It was a lentil, lamb soup – very thick and rich – almost reminded me of a more flavorful minestrone. The Beef brewat rolls were just plain gross – lol The beef was tasteless and I just could not get past the powdered sugar on a savory dish thing – lol. I took a bite to taste it and was done. The shish kebab was AMAZING. Full of flavor, cooked perfectly and the lemon chicken was also very good. I did not like the cous cous but the vegetables with it were very nice.

The assorted pastries were amazing. All 4 were variations of a baklava I believe – nice flaky pastry, some with nuts, some with honey – just all very nice! Overall this was a very surprising meal and we will DEFINITELY be back for this one!

2/9
This was our one and only AK day(not my favorite park) I had been craving Eggs Benedict so we headed off to RFC here for breakfast. I got my eggs which were served with breakfast potatoes and a lemon poppyseed muffin. – VERY NICE! The kids and DH all got the Breakfast of Bandits – scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, fruit(one orange wedge – lol) and a muffin. All declared it to be very good.

We left AK around 1 and headed direct to DD. I had heard so much about Earl of Sandwich that we wanted to try this for lunch. I had the original – roast beef, cheddar cheese and horseradish sauce. It was AMAZING – so much better than the French dip I had at Le Cellier. The bread is a soft type bread, the beef was nice and lean and cooked perfect – very tasty. I had it with a side of cole slaw which was very fresh and tasty. You could taste the flavor of the cabbage – it wasn’t overpowered with mayo and seasonings. DH got the Turkey club which he said was also very nice. The kids got grilled cheese. These are served on the same long rolls they serve the sandwiches on so at first my picky 7 yo refused to eat it (He has oral sensitivities so some things just don’t do well for him) we got him to try one bite and he loved how soft the bread was. There were no leftovers of anything when we were done. Definitely a must do on our next trip

Dinner tonight was a favorite of ours – Boma!
Everything was just amazing. The chicken was perfect as was the Prime Rib. They had several sauces for the beef which I didn’t remember from last time – my favorite was the tamarind BBQ. I tried the potato bacon soup – was just ok. They had several interesting salads that I enjoyed. I was disappointed to not see a particular beet salad they had the last time that I enjoyed but I found plenty of other salads to try.

They had a banana bread bread pudding with vanilla sauce that was nice – not as good as the dessert at ‘Ohana though. There was also a coconut tiramisu that was nice and of course the zebra domes.

Do not let the “African cuisine” turn you off. There is so much to eat here – even for kids and picky eaters. They had mac and cheese, chicken strips and spaghetti and meatballs here that were all great. They also had tons of fresh cut fruit. We love this restaurant and make a point to come here every trip!

2/10
Our final day – again b-fast in the room.

We headed to MK for one last day today. DH has been wanting to eat at Columbia Harbor House – I of course wanted Figaro Fries again – but I caved and we ate at CHH. DH and I got the fish and chicken meal and I got a bowl of NE Clam Chowder.
The clam chowder was VERY VERY nice. I really enjoyed it and ate all of it and refused to share – lol! I wasn’t hungry for my food but I tried it anyway – the chicken strips were the same ones we had had for ourselves and the kids several times through out our trip. Still very nice and moist on the inside with a nice coating and more honey mustard sauce – yum! The fish was just ok for me but DH loved his.

The kids had - mac and cheese with the cheddar crackers and applesauce. No surprise there.

Our last dinner was another favorite – Biergarten! This is another buffet so it’s hard to get everything in – the food was just amazing though. I really enjoyed my red cabbage, rouladin, sauerbraten, dumplings etc. The desserts I thought were lacking – just some vanilla pudding, black forest cake, apple strudel and some strawberry fluff roll. They had mac and cheese here and breaded chicken cutlets so the kids were happy. They had some fruit and salads too but I skipped all of that for the real grub!

We always enjoy this restaurant and the atmosohere made for a great last meal.

Overall our experiences were fantastic. Some disappointments with meals – but nothing to really gripe about. We had no issues with service, anytime we did have slow service it was clearly due to how busy the restaurant was – it didn’t bother us – we never mind lingering over a meal as long as the kids were ok and they’re always ok in restaurants.

I hope you enjoyed reading about our meals – if anybody has any questions feel free….

THANKS!

Thanks for the reviews that you put so much effort into. I was glad to see a very positive report on the PSB breakfast. So many reviews are indifferent or negative about the breakfast. We're really looking forward to trying it for the first time in two weeks! My girls won't care whether the food is top notch, it's the princesses we're after. Dh and I will be happy with decent quality food and the joy in our children's hearts. That's what it's all about, isn't it? :yay:

Great reviews. You hit some restaurants that we have been thinking about. You have me second guessing 50s Prime Time and maybe replacing it with Mama Melrose, which would allow us to do the Fantasmic package.

That's what we figured and why we're definitely going to give it another shot at dinner next time. :)

Thanks so much for your reviews, I love that you told specifically what you liked or did not like about a restaurant instead of just an overall it was awful---Super helpful as you ate a bunch of places we are scheduled to eat in May ---Thanks!!!
