Amy and Kirsten’s Walt Disney World Trip

This is a review of the table service meals of my recent trip while on the Dining Plan. This trip I took with my great Disney nut friend Amy and I left my husband and cat home in cold Chicago! Since I have been to Disney so many times, and Amy has only been once before she let me pick all the restaurants! What a burden! If you read this while on an empty stomach I take no responsibility for you actions!

Feb 11th Alfredo’s (Epcot) 8:45 pm
I ate at Alfredo’s once when I was in WDW with my family and we did not care for it. I figure my taste buds have changed (I use to hate chocolate, strange I know) so I should give it another shot. The restaurant is loud, and the tables are close, but this did not bother us. I ordered the Mozzarella Caprese for my appetizer, the tomatoes were delicious! At home all we have right now is the hard tomatoes, so these were like heaven! The mozzarella was good, not great, it was a little mushy. For dinner I had the Vodka pasta with Shrimp this was excellent, even a little spicy which I liked. It was an enormous serving and I left a lot of pasta but of course finished the shrimp. For dessert we split the tiramisu which was really cute served in a coffee cup, and delicious. My friend (Amy) had the house salad with raspberry dressing, which was a good mixture of greens, not just iceberg. For dinner she had the Trio pasta, which was ziti, lasagna, and ravioli. The ziti and lasagna were very good and the ravioli was just okay, the sauce was bland. We both enjoyed Alfredo’s and I would go back.

Feb 12th Grand Floridian Café 6:30p
I have eaten plenty of times at the Café, but never for dinner. We planned an early dinner so we could catch the fireworks and the Magic Kingdom and stay for late admission. It was freezing this day, the temp dropped to the low 30’s. We were sure glad we had our winter coats with us from Chicago! We both ordered hot tea for our beverage and were given the choice of probably 10 different teas. We both then ordered soup (can you tell we were cold!) I had the French Onion and she had the Chicken Noodle. The French Onion was just right, little salty and gooey with the cheese on top. I didn’t try and Chicken Noodle, but she ate the whole bowl, so it must have been good! For dinner we both ordered the land and sea (steak and grilled shrimp) the only difference I ordered my meat med-rare and Amy ordered her meat med-well. The steak was very good, not tough at all and cooked just they way I like it. The shrimp were also delicious grilled just right, not burnt at all. Also served with the dinner was mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. Dessert always the best part of dinner, Amy had the chocolate fondue, which was served with fruit and marshmallows and brownies. The chocolate was really good; it was milk chocolate with a hint of orange. I had two small desserts the lemon cheesecake and the key lime tart. The tart was better than the cheesecake. I would probably not order them again, and stick with the fondue. The service was really good as well as the food and we would go back.

Feb 13th Spoodles (Boardwalk) 630p
I had some reservations about Spoodles because my only other time eating here was for lunch and we were not impressed, but that was 8 years ago! For our drinks we both ordered the Sangria, which was red wine variety and served with fruit. We both enjoyed it was more sweet than some other sangria I’ve had. We split the four cheese flat bread and the shrimp appetizer. Both of which were good, the shrimp were very large, and that’s good because they only gave us three. I had the NY strip steak (med-rare) and with scallops added on. The steak was under cooked was very rare, but I ate it anyway and the scallops were seared. I prefer the scallops to be a little firmer, and they were on the medium side. Amy had the rigatoni and she added the shrimp. I had a taste and it was delicious! For dessert I had the gelato, which was three different kinds, and the only one I remember is pistachio. They also gave me little cookies and fruit, and a spear of chocolate. Amy had the crème brulee, I didn’t taste but she liked it. My grade would be higher for the restaurant if my food had been cooked properly.

More to come....

Here is the rest:

Feb 14th Les Chefs de France 8p
We arrived early for our reservation time, and we had a short wait maybe 15 minutes. The wait was worth it because we were seated in the front of the restaurant, so we had a perfect view of the fireworks. This has always been a favorite of mine and this time did not disappoint. For appetizers I ordered the cheese plate, which had four different cheeses and a small salad. I could not identify two of the cheeses, but one was blue cheese and the other was Brie. Amy ordered the lobster bisque, I didn’t try any of it but she ate it all. My dinner was so heavenly; I had the sautéed sole on a bed of linguine with a mushroom sauce. It was so good, the fish was moist and the sauce was delicious rich and creamy. My mouth is watering as I write this! Amy ordered the filet and it was cooked about medium, and she prefers it more like a hockey puck. She ate all the meat, so hopefully I’m converting her! We both ordered the strawberry cake for dessert, which was more like a napoleon than a cake, so that was a pleasant surprise. Since Amy was wearing her birthday button, they also brought out a chocolate mousse cake and sang happy birthday in French! It was a nice treat since we were not expecting it.

Feb 15th Wolfgang Puck Café (West Side) 8p
This was my first time at the Café and I have to say I had high expectations. For appetizers we ordered the spinach dip and the vegetable spring rolls. The spring rolls were good, not great and the spinach dip was really good. The dip came with flat bread type of chips, super crisp and yummy. For dinner I had the pumpkin ravioli with shrimp. The ravioli were sweet, not dessert like, but a nice pleasant sweet taste. Amy had a filet, which they once again cooked medium, I guess they can’t bring themselves to over cook it! She ate it, so the conversion continues! For dessert we decided to split a dessert and bring the other back with us. We decided on the Granny Smith Crème Brule, let me say there was nothing apple about it at all. It tasted like regular crème brule except they burnt the sugar on top, yuck! We brought back the carrot cake, I did not taste the cake, but I did taste the pecans that came with it. They were glazed and they have cayenne pepper on them! I thought I was going to choke, which was even worse because I was driving at the time. I was a little disappointed, because I was looking forward to having sushi for my appetizer, but then I was told not on the dining plan. I still don’t understand why, because it was the same price as many appetizers we were able to have. I would probably go back.

Feb 16th Kona Cafe (Polynesian) 8p
I always make it a point to eat at Kona. This was Amy’s first time dining here for dinner. I ordered a mai tai to drink and it was a good one! For appetizers I had the sticky wings which we very good, they gave me 9 wings! I could not believe how huge the portion was. The quality of the wings was good, nice and meaty. Amy had the crab cakes, which came with a small salad. For dinner I had the panko shrimp and the scallops with sticky rice. It was delicious the shrimp were nice and crisp and very large. The scallops were cooked just they way I like them. Amy had the Asian Chicken Pasta, but she substituted the chicken for shrimp. I’ve had this dish before and it is very good, lots of nice veggies and the sauce is not heavy at all. I was disappointed with my dessert, I couldn’t decide so I had the macadamia pie, which was like pecan pie but with macadamia nuts. It was way too sweet; my husband would have loved it! Amy had the apple brown betty, since I’m not huge apple lover, did not try it.

Feb 17th Le Cellier 8:40p
This was my first time for dinner at Le Cellier. I ate lunch here in 2001, and thought it was okay. Well since I’ve eaten dinner here, I’ve decided it’s awesome! For appetizers we both had the cheese soup, which was delicious, and it went well with the pretzel bread. I just which I had a bowl of soup and not a little cup! For dinner we both had the bbq filet with cream cheese mashed potatoes. All I can say is I would have licked me plate if I had been at home. The steak was so tender it could have been cut with a butter knife! For dessert I had the maple crème brule and at this time I was stuffed. I ate every last bite of that dessert, it was so good! Amy had the smores for dessert off the kid’s menu and she really didn’t like it, so she ate the ice cream that came with it.

You ate at most of the places we have adr's for in June so I really enjoyed your review.

Thanks for the reviews. We have ADR's planned for August at Le Cellier, Alfredo's, and Prime Time, we're trying to decide between Kona or GF Cafe for our fourth night, so this review came in handy. :thumbsup2

great reviews( just started a diet and i skipped the birhtday cake thread and maybe should have just skipped this to! :rotfl: )

glad to hear you lliked Chefs as we used to and skipped it last time due to it being panned also the WPC, we've been debating on these 2 so from your reviews i think Chef's is it

Thanks for the review of Chefs and Kona. I will trying these this summer! :thumbsup2

Thank you for the reviews. We will be eating at Kona,Spoodles, GF Cafe, Chefs & LeCellier in May.

Did GF Cafe allow the fondue as a dessert for 1 person on the dining plan? It's been reported in the past that it had to be shared by 2.

Yes they allowed it for one person. They only thing they said was two points was a dessert platter, which was 4-5 small desserts. The fondue was huge though, easily could be shared between two people.
