Hi everyone! we just got back on tuesday, so I'm hurrying to get all the details out. Lets start with the dining reviews...
First of all, the basics-
It was myself (Meg, 21, first trip as an "adult" except a day-trip 2 years ago, vegetarian) and DBF (Steve, 22, first trip ever) staying at Pop on the dining plan for 6 nights.
Wed 1/4- Arrival day- Lunch at Les Chefs de France:
This meal was really good. I had the tomato and goat cheese tart (really more like a pizza- and it was huge- took half of it to go) and the veggie lasagna, with the profiterolles for dessert (oh my gosh they were to die for). Steve started with some sort of selection of pates as he was feeling adventurous. He said they tasted good but the textures were a bit odd to him- not because of the restaurant though, just because pate isn't his favorite. His steak was good though, and he liked his dessert- can't remember what it was, but it had strawberries in it. Oh, also, the bread was amazing. We got some good bread this trip lol. Our waiter, Bruno, was wonderful. Overall: A-
Dinner at Pecos Bill- We weren't hungry for dinner till 730 or so, and we were in the MK so we stopped at Pecos bill's. Steve ordered a burger and I shared some of his fries and ate my leftovers from lunch. Everything was fine. Overall: B
Thurs 1/5: Lunch- Backlot Express at MGM- I got a grilled veggie sandwich, and steve got a burger. I loved my sandwich (with the mushrooms picked off), steve said his burger tasted fine. He had been feeling off all day, so his stomach hurt after this, but his stomach is weird- he can eat corn flakes and feel gross, so we're pretty sure there was no connection to the food. Overall: B
Dinner- Mitsokushi Teppanyaki in Epcot- This is the meal I was nervous about thanks to some recent reviews pertaining to the dining plan, but steve was excited about it so we went. I'm so glad we did. They brought us a seaweed salad to start, which I didn't think was bad, but steve loved it. I got a salad as my appetizer, and steve got the miso soup. Both were good, and my ginger dressing was very interesting. He also ordered a sushi sampler out of pocket, which he loved. I got the vegetable entree, and steve got the steak and scallops. Both were really good, and our chef was very personable and talented. For dessert we got the ginger cake (steve- he really liked it and he's not a dessert guy) and green tea ice cream (me- also very good!). Overall: A.
Friday 1/6: Brunch- Kona Cafe (out of pocket)
I had to try the tonga toast, so we went here for brunch after a couple hours at the MK. The tonga toast was good, but a bit too sweet for me to order regularly. I'm glad I tried it though, and I'd get it again if I were in the mood for sweet. Steve got the Big Kahuna, which he liked except for the pancakes- I tried them and they definitely tasted like the frozen kind. It was a nice relaxing late morning meal. Overall: B+
Dinner: Boma
I was really looking forward to this restaurant and wasn't disappointed, but it wasn't quite the amazing experience I'd expected from others reviews. Maybe it's because we live in a major metropolitain area and can have exotic food whenever we want. Don't get me wrong, the food was really good, I just wasn't "knock your socks off" amazed. We'd go back again, but I wouldn't be upset if we had a trip without going. Overall: B+
Saturday, 1/7: Lunch- ABC Commissary: Steve got another burger, I got the tabbouleh wrap. Both were really good. Overall I was really impressed with the counter service this trip- as a vegetarian there was really a lot of variety and good quality. Overall: B
Dinner: Le Cellier-
Oh my gosh, I understand why this restaurant is so popular. I say it's the best place we ate the whole trip, steve thinks Teppanyaki slightly edged it out. Anyway, it was really good. I started with the Cheese sampler (I loved them all, steve tried them and liked all but the last one- but he doesn't like "mouldy" type cheeses), he got the shrimp coctail- two thumbs up. We both liked all the different kinds of bread. For my entree, I got the butternut squash risotto, which is possibly the best thing I've ever eaten in my life. Steve got the strip steak which also got high marks. We split the maple creme brulee in the restaurant (good but we were too full to finish it) and took home the whiskey cake which ws still good the next night. Overall: A
Sunday 1/8: Lunch- Wolfgang Puck Express:
I had the four cheese pizza and steve got a chicken sandwhich. Both were really good, a nice choice for CS. We got cookies for dessert which we took with us and ate later on in the trip. Overall: A-
Dinner- Marrakesh: Steve got the royal feast and I got the jasmina salad and veggie couscous, with the bastilla for dessert. All of it was fine, nothing too out of the ordinary. Steve wants me to add extra points for the belly dancer though- he didn't look at his menu once until she finished her show! and was still talking about her two days later... so overall, including entertainment: A-
Monday, 1/9: Lunch- Tusker House: I got the veggie sandwich, steve got the fried chicken sandwhich I think. Everything was good, and we were entertained by african drummers while we ate. Overall: B+
Dinner- Cinderella's Royal Table: This was our one disappointment this trip. I wanted to do a romantic dinner on our last night, but was having doubts about this restaurant once we arrived in WDW as we really weren't into the MK as much as the rest of the parks. I decided to keep the ADR though, since it would be going to all princesses, all the time soon and it might be our last chance. We got there and had our pictures taken with cinderella (offered to us later as a package for $31- no thanks), then after a short wait went upstairs to eat. I had called ahead about getting a different veggie entree since I don't love mushrooms, but hadn't heard back after a couple calls, so I just ordered what they had and figured I'd eat what I could. My caesar salad was good, as was the bread. My entree, however, was a different story. I wasn't expecting to like the mushroom, but the rest of it wasn't good either. My potatoes weren't cooked- they were still crunchy and hard to chew. I can't put my finger on what was weird about the carrots but steve agreed they didn't taste good. Whatever the bread-type stuff was (odd looking balls) was pretty good, but not enough to save the rest of the meal. Steve got the shrimp cocktail and the tuna which he said was just ok. Our desserts were fine, but it's hard to screw up ice cream. To top it all off, our server was very odd- sarcastic in her tone and must have found it funny to serve a party without children- which is weird because there were several in the restaurant. She didn't even say anything when I barely touched my entree. Oh well, it was cool to see the inside of the castle though- it's very pretty. Just don't go for the food, unless we just hit it on an off night. Overall: C-, and only for the ambiance.
Late: Everything pop- I got a kids meal mac and cheese since I hadn't eaten much of my dinner. it was good.
Tuesday, 1/10- departure day: We used up our last three CS today at:
ABC Comissary: Steve got another burger which was still good.
Cantina de San Angel: I got a wet burrito w/o meat- actually really good. A-
Everything Pop: Steve got a Cheesesteak wrap to take to the airport. I ordered bagel chips and hummus OOP, and we split the tie dye cheesecake. Everything was really good. Overall: A-
Some notes:
The dining plan was wonderful. We got to eat whatever we wanted without worrying about price. It was nice for two poor college students to take a break from money worries for a week. Overall the food was better than I expected. We ate well almost everywhere we went. Even the CS places had really good quality.
We barely bought any food outside the dining plan. We had to work to use up the snacks. One thing I was disappointed wiht was the choice of snacks at Everything Pop. We couldn't even get a mickey rice krispee treat- only ice cream, bottled drinks, fruit or chips. But it was nice not to have to buy drinks in the parks. Since steve doesn't eat breakfast, I brought a coffee maker and oatmeal packets for breakfast when I wasn't eating leftovers from the night before. This worked great, saved time and was cheap.
Thanks for reading everyone. A full trip report and a resort report are coming soon. -Meg

Thanks so much for your report. I agree about the castle. Its too bad because it was always a romantic place to dine.

As a fellow vegetarian, I really enjoyed your reviews. I'm sorry to hear about CRT...we have an ADR there for my birthday dinner on our upcoming trip  . I'm a big fan of the ambiance there, so hopefully that will cloud a potentially bad entree.

Can you describe the Le Cellier risotto dish a little more? We have an ADR for dinner there about halfway through our trip. I saw this entree on the menu at allears and was a little concerned since I'm not a huge goat cheese fan. Did the goat cheese over power the entree?

Thanks!

The Le Cellier dish wasn't overpowered by the goat cheese at all. Actually I didn't really notice it. The most powerful flavor in it was definitely the butternut squash, and it had a sort of nutty flavor and texture to it. I'd never had a risotto before and I liked it a lot.

Thanks for your reviews. I agree about CRT; go for the atmosphere, not the food. I liked the atmosphere and enjoyed my night there with my DH, but it wasn't for the food. I loved Cinderella when I was younger (and still do :) ). I also like Le Cellier too.
