Dining Review - March 2024

Thank you very much for your wonderfully detailed dining reviews. Due to caring for an elderly mother, we haven’t been back to WDW and its restaurants since May 2019. You munched your way through some of our firm favourites, such as Flying Fish and Narcoossee’s. The descriptions and photos definitely made my tummy rumble on more than one occasion. That can be a little trying, though, if you’re reading these reviews while on a train that’s taking you to work! *sigh* It was worth every nostalgic minute! Thank you!
Hi. Glad I can make your tummy rumble :)
While I know it’s difficult, treasure those moments with your mom.

Thank you so much for your report! I always enjoy them and appreciate you taking the time to write them. Scott and I are kindred spirit in terms of cocktails- I am a martini and Manhattan girl!
Glad you enjoyed it; I love writing them and even more so when I know others enjoy them. I keep trying to get Scott to branch out and try different cocktails but he knows what he likes

Enjoyed all your dining reviews and pictures!
I definitely want to try the Key Lime Martini at YC, sounds delicious!
We took a break from Gideon’s Bakehouse on our last trip and tried Summer House cookies and really enjoyed them!
Thank you for another delicious dining report!
Hi. So glad you joined. I love reading your trip reports.
That Key Lime Pie Martini at YC was great; better than the one at Flying Fish (also good but not as good)
I’m glad we took the Gideon’s break and am hoping we’ll be excited to have Gideon’s again next trip.

Thank you for your wonderful reports! We are going next week. Just curious. Do the restaurants frown at sharing entrees? We are from NY and sometimes they charge to do that. Is that the case at WDW? Thanks!
Thank you. No, surprisingly, they didn’t seem to mind the sharing entrees in the least. Some places even would split them for us before serving them. The portions often are large so it makes sense to share. It’s definitely more frowned upon at home with many restaurants having that sharing charge, but I haven’t seen that at Disney; let’s hope we don’t give them any ideas.

I really enjoying reading your reports. My husband and I are doing two trips this fall, Disneyland in October, and the week before Christmas at Disney World. Our style has changed over the years and we really enjoy the restaurants and trying new foods. It's a more relaxed way to Disney...Looking forward to your next trip. Have you been on a Disney Cruise?
Hi. That sounds great - Disney on both coasts. I agree with the change in touring style; we’ve stopped being commandos and try to enjoy what we’re doing including different meals with good food and cocktails; definitely more relaxing.

We haven’t done a Disney Cruise. I looked into it, but Disney Cruises don’t have casinos on them (another thing we enjoy). We’ve cruised mainly on Royal Caribbean and also a few cruises on Celebrity. I wrote reviews for many of those on Cruise Critic in the Boards section. My user name there is the same as here, Noreen411, if you are interested in reading any of those. If you find one of my posts and expand the signature I linked my reviews there. We haven’t been on a cruise since right before the pandemic started; we got off one of the last cruises that sailed before the industry shut down.

Our next Disney World trip will hopefully be this fall.

Just discovered and enjoyed your report! I have two trips coming up in June (one for work and one for fun) and will definitely use your recommendations. We are staying at Beach Club on the fun trip so a Hoodunit’s punch is definitely in my future!
Hi. Sounds great. Glad my recommendations help. That Hoodunit’s punch is fantastic. Enjoy

Real Life Update
Scott likes to bake; especially chocolate chip cookies. Since he loved that dipped cookie from the Confectionary so much, we tried making something similar. This was the first attempt so we weren’t too creative trying to make the cookies shaped like Mickey Mouse. They are traditional chocolate chip cookies. We melted Hershey Bars in a double boiler. Once the cookies cooled we dipped them in the melted chocolate and put them in the fridge. We tried getting a little creative trying to drizzle chocolate on one of them but then just stuck to dipping since it just looked messy. The cookies were really good. Somehow we always end up with extra dough, not enough for a whole tray of more cookies but too much that you don’t want to toss it, so we have a giant cookie too.

Wednesday 3/6/24
We spent most of the day with a realtor looking around the west coast of Florida for potential future places to move.

That evening we drove to the Caribbean Beach resort for dinner at Sebastian’s Bistro.

We went a bit early to have pre-dinner cocktails at Banana Cabana.

Scott had Makers Bourbon and a Coke.
I had Caribbean Smuggler: Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum and Parrot Bay Coconut Rum with Cranberry and Pineapple Juices. This was good; the bartender said it’s her favorite drink so I gave it a try. I prefer the Banana Cabana drink that I’ve had here before, but always like to give something new and recommended a try.

There weren’t any seats at the bar so we took our drinks along the water and sat on a bench there. It was super peaceful. We saw a turtle swimming in the water and the sun starting to set.

We were seated on time at Sebastian’s Bistro.

It’s a Pre-Fixed Meal. The last few times we came we did the add on of the coconut shrimp but skipped it this time knowing how much food there is.

Starters:
Buttery House-baked Pull-apart rolls: with guava butter and caramelized onion jam. The rolls are really good, but if they were heated up just a bit they would be excellent.

Spice Salad Necklace: Mixed greens with spiced candied pumpkin seeds, tropical fruit, and radish with key lime dressing. This is a great and refreshing salad.

Entree:
Taste of the Caribbean: A selection of our favorite recipes inspired by the flavors of the Caribbean. Oven-roasted citrus chicken, slow-cooked Mojo Pork with Mango Sambal, grilled Chili-rubbed beef with mojito relish, and sustainable baked fish with Veracruz sauce. They also have a vegetarian platter if you prefer but we stuck with the regular meat one. The food on the platter was really good tonight. Usually there will be something we like best and things we aren’t as thrilled with; today pretty much everything was cooked really well.

Sides:
The platter is serviced with cilantro rice and beans, vegetable curry, and grilled seasonal vegetables. I don’t normally like cilantro (it tastes like soap to me) but the rice and beans here is delicious. The broccoli (or broccolini) is also perfectly cooked and delicious.

Dessert:
Our celebrated house-made coconut-pineapple bread pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. This is a show stopper. It’s fantastic.

Everything was very good; we enjoyed all our food. This was our best meal at Sebastian’s yet.

Fantastic report - Loved every post!

Quick question about Sebastian's - it is where my son has asked to eat next month. I see it is "family style". However, one of us is a carnivore, one is vegetarian. Does each person get their own "platter"?

Thank you!!

Hi. Thank you. Since we’re both carnivores we had one platter we shared, but could request more of anything we wanted. We saw larger tables with larger platters. Given that you would need both the carnivore and vegetarian platters, I expect you would each get your own platters. I’m also assuming the platter for one would be smaller than the platters for larger parties. But since you can ask for more of anything you want more of, that’s a good thing to avoid wasting food. I haven’t tried both types of platters when we’ve gone, but expect that’s how it would work.

We really enjoyed Sebastian’s Bistro. Have a great time there.

Did they change the filet mignon sliders at Boathouse ? Didn’t it used to be 2 sliders with fries , now it’s 3 sliders no fries.

I went in January and it was 2 sliders with fries.

Hi. Don’t laugh at how nerdy this sounds but I have pictures of the menu that I’ll use when writing the dining reviews. Sometimes I’ll delete the menu pics after it’s written but I went back to check if I had any of the older Boathouse menus saved and you are correct

From our March 2024 trip - 3 sliders for $22 (no fries)
From our Sept/Oct 2023 trip - 2 sliders with fries for $16.50

We really enjoyed the sliders and the Boathouse has the best fries on Disney property (my opinion). We ordered a side of fries to go with the sliders.
