dining reservations w/o disney reservation?

probably a dumb question... but how soon (or can I) make dining reservations at Disney without a reservations number since I'm not staying on property?

180 days in advance, just like everyone else, you don't need to be staying onsite or have a ressie # to make dining reservations

Like the previous poster said, 180 days prior to your arrival at the restaurant. We stayed offsite for years and I still made our dining reservations for the character meals.
