do you get your dining rotation assignment before getting on the ship? We are going on the 7 day Eastern cruise, which night is the best night to make a Palo reservation (in a perfect world, the best night would not be full by the time I got to the reservation desk!!)

Unfortunately...you won't know your dining rotation until you board and make your way to your stateroom. You will find the rotation printed on a card along with the Navigator for the day. It sure would make decisions easier if we could find this out before boarding.

When you check in at the port and get your key to the world card, there will be a series of letters on them showing your dining rotation, ie plaplap. Meaing Parrot Cay, Lumiere's etc. Not a lot of advanced notice, but a little better than waiting to get to your stateroom since you'll want to make reservations as soon as possible. We were on the eastern last Feb. I think we picked Wed night for Palo. You'll not want to miss your first night at animators. When you go to make your reservations they will have a board up showing the special dining events through the week, it helps you make your decision.

I thought I read on one of these boards that you can make your reservations before getting on board. Is that right, or just wishful thinking. I hate to feel stressed out and rushed from the beginning, but I would really like to go to Palos for dinner and a brunch or high tea. When we did the 4 day, the concierge took care of it for us. This time, we're on our own.

The only way you can make reservations in advance is if you purchase one of their special packages (i.e. wedding, vow renewal, romance, etc.).

I agree... it is a little stressful to run around for reservations as soon as you board, but it's worth the initial stress. You can get the Palo reservations and spa appointments you want and not be disappointed later in the cruise. Plus, once you've completed the "Ressies Scramble", you can truly relax for the rest of the cruise.

DW and I just arrived from the 7-day Eastern Magic Cruise. I tried to book Palo from the Contemporary ahead of time and couldn't so I doubt that it's possible. Also got the tip to go book the Palo reservation immediately upon boarding. I did this and was told that we could book only one dinner reservation at that time (Saturday). I could book more based on availablity starting Sunday. Also I booked the Champaign Brunch at the same time. Well worth it!!!!!! On Sunday (at the brunch) I booked an extra day at Palo. BE CAREFUL -- Animator's Palate did not light up the first night in our dining rotation. It was the second night (Thursday) so be careful. To be safe -- do not book Palo on any night you are scheduled to attend the Animator's Palate. Have a great cruise!!!!

Jack & Monica, Great to know about animator's. I would be dissappointed if we missed that. Also DD and DS are traveling with us and I know that they would hate to miss that!

Dave, You're right. I'll just think of the ressies as part of the adventure and not get too worked up about it. I enjoy your website, and will bring back as much interesting cruise info as I can to forward to you!
