new to the dining plan - don't know much about it, does it save you money?
Would be me, DH,DS5,DD10. how did you like it, was it a hassle?

Hi lola2 i am purchasing the dining plan for the first time also. it will be dh myself dd10 and ds6. for july15-22 at the wilderness lodge woods view. my travel agent said it was a good plan, we are getting it because dh doesn't want to worry about food when we get there. the cost of the dining plan for us looks like around ~800.00 and we priced some of the meals as if we would be paying out of pocket to see if it was a deal and to us it is ok. I'm sure there are alot of people here that will give you more help.

HAVE FUN!!!!

Well i did purchase the package to get woods view at wilderness lodge hopeful bunkbeds 4 day passes and dining. I did ask agent if only one person can get dining pass she said no. I am assuming you can only get with package. Hopefully others who have used it will inform us both.

We used the DP in Nov. and it was wonderful!! I do think you have to purchase a package. Let me first say that it is so much food!!! But, we were able to eat at places we would not normally choose and did not have to worry about how much spending too much. It was nice to go in and order whatever you wanted, otherwise we would be choosing the cheapest thing from the menu, sharing drinks, etc. I highly recommend it! I did feel like we got more for our money at the TS restaurants that were from the menu rather than a buffet. The DP cost us $400 and we ate (or at least tried our best) around $700 worth of food.

We decided to do the DP for our April trip because we enjoy a nice dinner every evening when on vacation. We priced it out as well and believe we will save money just on dinner alone. I also like paying up front instead of getting that HUGE bill when you check out!

We found the dining plan easy to use in August. We went during "free" dining, but are more than happy to pay for it on our next trip (next week!). We loved getting to try out restaurants we usually wouldn't have tried (we usually limited oursleves to a couple TS meals per trip). The kids really enjoy the character dining and we like getting the character's pictures and autographs without having to wait in line and in the heat.

We had the same age kids that you do when we did the DP, so you are paying for two adults, two kids. The kids under age 10 are charged only $10.99 for the WHOLE day..that is such a good deal.

We really enjoyed the character meals/sit downs that we might not normally have eaten at. For the four of us, the character meals and table service meals were usually anywhere between $70-$100 dollars including tax/tip for one meal.

So you can see how it really saves money if you are going to do a sit down every day.

HTH :goodvibes

OOPS, sorry I just realized you have a 10 YO..so one of yours would be charged an adult price of $37.99...still may be a good deal for you. sorry about that! :earseek:

We just used it a couple of weeks ago for the first time and I will NEVER go again WITHOUT it!! It was GREAT! The food was wonderful and we were able to try soo many different foods & places to eat without having to worry about the the bill! We all enjoyed it so much, looking foward to using it every time we go!

Yes, keep in mind that your 10 year old is a "disney adult" and will be charged the adult price of the plan, even if he doesn't eat adult food. Dining can only be added to a package, however, starting in April DVC members with reservations at a DVC resort can also add the dining plan to their reservation and they don't have to purchase a package or tickets. This is a great plus for us and we plan to do it in April for our trip then. We did the free dining in September and it was great. We shared our credits with family members that were not on the plan and paid cash for cheaper meals and everyone was happy.

You do have to have a package to get the dining plan. If you book it thru AAA you can still get a discount. I think all persons in the room have to be on the dining plan. Ive read that if you have AP you can get a one day ticket and then it becomes a package and you can get the dining plan for the rest of the days of the stay. I think you have to purchase the dining per day/each day of the stay. I know you cant purchase more. HOpe that helps...
