We are passholders, and Universal is offering bogo half off quick service plans. Can anyone tell me about the value of these plans and how they work?
We (2 adults) will be there for one day at the end of the month, and are planning to eat at the leaky cauldron - Craigs review said lk does NOT take the dp, but the universal site says it does? We may also get something in the Simpsons area.
What counts as a snack?

I've done some rudimentary math, and it doesn't work at full price.. but bogo might, IF I can use it at lk.
Thanks!

It actually works very well if you use it correctly. Items are marked at the food locations as to what you can get with it. You get one quick service meal with drink and then one snack(can be butterbeer) and then one other drink. You can use it at LK and TB. Just ask which items you can use it on. I'm not sure if the Ploughman's Platter would work since it is meant for two people.

Beverage are $3 and Butterbeer can be up to $6. So two drinks and a butterbeer already has you at $12. So if you buy a meal that is at least $8 you are even for the meal deal at full cost. At BOGO, you are already good. Snacks are pretty much anything up to about $5.

My kids were there last week and used it at LK. For some reason the computers weren't set up for the BOGO without a drink deal and so after a long wait, they were just comped the second meal. The second day, it still wasn't set up, so they were comped the second deal with the drink. Not sure if this is still what is going on but even with the waste of time trying to get the meal without the drink, getting the second meal free two days in a row was a big money saver!

Touringplans.com has a good list of what you can eat.

Depending on the age of the review, or Craig's information, LC was originally going to be considered a Table Service meal for people getting the dining plan on a package. But, I think after that initial summer last year it was changed to a counter service.

Do you know how long they'll do this for? We're going at the end of November and haven't bought our AP's yet. Even without BOGO, we find the meal plan is worth it for the day we plan on doing three broomsticks and getting frozen butterbeer.

It just says for September. We couldn't get it for our trip last weekend because we only have Power passes.

We still bought a couple of meal plans at full price because the value is not that bad if you are buying higher priced items.

My kids got it twice last week and they only have power passes. Lucky them!

Good for them!

Now it makes me wonder if it was an uninformed TM. But they asked a manager as well.

It was honestly rather embarrassing as we were with first-timer friends and we had spent some time going over the math with them. I had tried to buy the at Guest Services first and they couldn't sell the BOGO 1/2 off - they said you had to get it from the restaurants. I wish they had taken the time to ask me what type of pass I had.

Where did you find the deal? We have preferred and power passes and I didn't see this offer. Just wondering if I missed it somewhere.

We have Power Passes, but the website language is confusing as to which passes get the discount. I've sent off an email, for whatever good that will do me. Lol

Thanks for the responses. I think we'll price it as we order, and if it doesn't work, no big deal. :) I really like that that's an option.

Oh, and the info is on the annual passholder site, when you log in.

I did this last week - it was awesome! I was told to buy the passes at the Dining Reservations desk in each park - that was the only desk able to sell the BOGO 50% off plans. They did need to see a preferred pass (only 1), NOT just a power pass (at least at those locations). I could use the credits in either park and they worked for pretty much everything, although some drinks are snacks and not drinks (Icees, Butterbeers, Lemonade Slushes, etc). We ate at both Harry Potter restaurants and Springfield for lunches and we had frozen butterbeers (WOW - good in heat), Lard Lad Big Pink Donuts (BEST donut ever and great snack credit use b/c it feeds 3, so you can still get a frozen butterbeer with another person's snack to share), Harry Potter apple crumble and butterbeer ice creams, popcorn, cafe latte cheesecakes, etc as some of our snacks. Special note when eating at the 2 Harry Potter restaurants - you can get ANY non-alcoholic drink EXCEPT butterbeer as your beverage for your meal. So, I had Pumpkin Juice (eh), Pear Cider (AMAZING), Apple Cider (Good), and Lemonade (Good) during the different days. The food at the Uni parks at the counters are far and away better than the other parks. Although the only hiccup for us was the Ploughman platter - the sauce under the food was too acidic and horseradishy for us. Second note - this platter can be ordered for 1, 2 OR 4 (it's $9.99 for 1 - 1/2 of the 2 person price) so you can buy it as a single person on the counter plan. This plan saved my back from carrying lots of beverages in the parks and it made the day so easy. It was SUCH a nice perk for annual pass holders.

Just FYI: I have confirmed that Power Passes are valid for the discount - http://www.disboards.com/threads/fyi-power-pass-valid-for-september-dining-plan-discount.3449577/. I was told that they should be purchased at the individual QS places.
