hi all

i am going to disney for a week in novemeber and was wondering about getting the DDP, can someone help with how much it is and what you get for your monies i'm a bit confused :confused3 altough thats not hard lol

would it be worth getting for just 1 week? i was thinking at least we can pre budget and that always helps :)

thank you in advance

To add dining plan you need to have booked a package so room and tickets with the same provider.

If you have a package call whoever you booked with to see how much to add it.

QSDP $34.99 and DDP $45.99 a night.

It needs to be added before you go, can't do at check in.

QSDP gets you 2 QS meals, 2 snacks a night plus a resort mug.

DDP gets you 1 TS, 1QS, 1 snack a night.

Qs = counter service, TS = waiter server sit down meal or buffet inc character meals.

If you are wanting TS meals check you can get reservations for where you fancy before paying as reservations open 6 months out and the more popular places do book up.

You need to put serious research in to see if its worth buying DDP, I would never buy it, just done it for 3rd time last month, great free but no way would I pay.
On DDP we eat more than we need just because its included. paying OOP we eat far less, for example on DDP at somewhere like Columbia Harbor House we would have 3 entrees, 3 desserts & 3 large sodas, value just over $50, we went back again after our DDP had finished, paying OOP we bought 3 entrees & 1 large soda cost $32.

Regular DDP: Will you have a car? if you can eat offsite the price of meals can be half cost of onsite which means half the tip, our average evening meal was probably around $100 on DDP meaning a tip of around $17-18/meal. Offsite we ate at Cheesecake factory $60 with a $10 tip.

To get value out of DDP you need to eat more than you need and get the most expensive items on the menus, if you get less than you are allowed or eat lower value items then you would be better paying OOP.

Agree with Wayne,Also the cost is going up all the time for the DDP next year more than this year,
Disney are upping the prices of the menus all the time as well which make the tip more
Agree that off site better, even without a car easy to eat of site
We would walk from DTD to places like orlando ale house, chilles,TGIF,olive gardens at the crossroads plenty of outher places there as well.and walk back or taxi back
If we wanted to go to the outback or longhorn on vineland taxi there and taxi back around $20 each way
If we were getting taxi back would do a bit of a shop for supply's (beer and sodas the like)
So no kneed for car if you dont want one

I can't get my head around why you would tip a waiter more just because a meal costs more. Surely you should reward for good service equally, regardless of the price of the meal. Just because somebody is lucky enough to wait at Disney does not mean they should get bigger tips IMO.

I will be paying the same for a tip wherever I go.

Tips are worked on a % of the bill, for parties of 6 or more its standard practise for restaurants to include 18% as do all Disney restaurants and many offsite. For parties less than 6 you add the tip yourfelf, Disney give you a guide of either 18% or 20% to make the calulations easy, your choice if you stick to it but it is customary in the US to tip by % of the bill(before tax) usually between 15-20% for good service.

I agree with Wayne - we are DVC members so do not have the package requirements to deal but I can not get the numbers to work in favour of the DDP. We did one night on the DxDP in May because I had to re-arrange a couple of reservation due to the shuttle launch which made it worth it - but we wouldn't eat like that normally.

In the US it is customary to tip a percentage of the bill usually 15-20% (even here I always tip 10%).

Therefore when in Rome etc. I choose to eat in these restaurants therefore except the tip will be higher.

EDIT: I was too slow in my response and Wayne beat me too it! :lmao:

off site the auto tip kicks in for 8 or more.It used to be that at disney, but when the unions did the last round of pay disney droped to 6
Also if you get alcohol at the table an 18% tip added automaticly even if 1 eating and same if using TIW discount card
If paying on CC we always pay tip in cash as a CC tip is taxed cash not and some places keep it rather than give it to staff(would check your not paying twice)
for bad service give a penny 1c

we ended up paying for DDP this year - we probably didn't save anything, but i'm glad that i'd paid it all in advance...
prices in the parks are so expensive....it really bothers me when i'm paying out of pocket....this time it was just a credit on the key card and didn't bother me at all...

looked into paying for a few nights next year(dvc)but think disney are pricing it way too high now (regular DDP)
