dining plan

The dining plan is for DVC members. The cost is $ 37.99 per day/per person and you need to purchase it for your length of stay. Personally if you pick the right restaurants and like to eat I think it is a real deal. My wife and I sometimes refer to it as the food and gun card. If you think about how much you can rack up in a meal bill vs the price of the DDP and it includes gratuity how can you go wrong.

The dining plan can be added to DVC reservations. The DVC member must have it added to the ressie prior to arrval at the resort. While renters and guests can also get the plan when they stay at DVC on points, it MUST be added to their ressie by the member. The 2006 price is $37.99 for adults, $10.99 for children 9 and under per day of the ressie. The plan must be purchased for all days of the ressie for everyone in the room.

In 2007, the adult price increases to $38.99, child price remains $10.99.

We bought it for our recent DVC stay. We had ADRs at restaurants that we've loved in the past, and I have to say that we were very disappointed with the changes implemented at the restaurants due to the DDP. We'll be sticking to the nicer places for a couple of dinners and cooking for ourselves otherwise from now on. The DDP didn't work out too well for us.

I agree that the overall changes to the rstaurants, their menus and policies has been negative. We only do a hanful of our favorite now, and do not use "the plan", but many folks truly like the plan.

Whether the changes are actually tied to cost cutting measures because of the plan can ot be proven, the timing of the changes is certainly suspect, after a year of plan availability and threads of folks "maximizing" the plan for every penny. But the thread was a question about availability, not the pros & cons, or impact of the plan.

I only mentioned our experience because I wish someone had given us a heads up before we spend nearly $600 for a disappointing week on the DDP. It's great that it's available for DVC members, but people should be aware that many of the restaurants have changed from the way they were a year ago before they decide to plunk down a substantial amount on this plan.

It's hard to prove but with the changes we do know have happened, the timing of those changes and MULTIPLE comments from wait staff that this is the reason including comments that certain things would come back after the free DDP was finished, I think it's easily justifiable to believe this is the reason.
