dining plan question

We booked our trip and it came with the free magic your way plan..we decided to upgrade to the magic your way plus dining plan and paid the difference. My question is...we decided to stay one extra night at the hotel. I do not want to pay the extra money to upgrade the meal plan for the last day so will they let us just keep the magic your way meal plan that comes free? I made calls and asked on live chats but cannot get a straight answer.

No, you need to be on the same dining plan for the entire length of your reservation.

But what you can do is make a separate room-only reservation for your last night there. Ask them to link your main reservation and the room-only reservation in the system, so that hopefully they will give you the same room for both reservations. You will have to go check out and check back in again on the room-only day, but that only takes a few minutes. And you do run a risk of them making you change rooms, but I've never had to.

For park tickets for that extra day, you should be able to add another day to your tickets on the main reservation. Just be sure to not lose/throw away the old keycards after you check-in for that room-only reservation because that's where the park tickets still are.

No, if you upgrade, you must for the entire trip. They will not allow you to keep just the free meal plan. I know this first hand as we were in a similar situation last year. We needed to add an extra night and I was going to just a hotel night. But the CM saw we had free dining and said why don't you add an extra night to your package? I had upgraded from Quick Service Dining plan to the Standard Dining Plan. And I asked the same question as you. I was clearly told you must have the same Dining plan for the length of your stay. I still added the night because I figured we were still going to have to eat and it was a better deal than just paying for the room. But that's what worked for us. HTH!

I think that there is some confusion. The base Magic Your Way plan does not include meals at all only the room and a single park per day pass, so when you upgraded to MYW+Dining, you are adding a dining plan to a package that didn't have dining before.

And yes the dining has to be for the entire package stay. If you don't want dining on your last day you will have to book it as a room only reservation and pray they don't make you change rooms when you check out/in on the last night.

You can add an extra day to your park passes and then book a separate room only reservation for that last day. In addition, your meal plan goes until midnight on your checkout day providing you still have meal credits left. Your check out day from the package part of the trip will count as your last day even if you are staying an extra night because that would be a separate reservation. We often do this and share a couple meals to save one or two for that last day (but only when we're paying full price for the dining plan)

With all that being said, the difference between free dining and regular dining isn't a huge amount and you're probably better of just paying the extra for the upgrade to the regular dining.

I think the OP meant that she had free QS dining and upgraded to regular dining. Is that right?

Thank you everyone...sorry for the confusion. I am still learning so much as I go! In the end we kept theupgrsde on the dining plan for the last day too. It came to $10 extra a person. You cant beat it!
