Dining plan question

This may seem like a dumb question but is it possible to get the dining plan if you DO NOT stay on property.....I just get admission tickets and would like to get the dining plan as well.....I have family that works at a hotel chain so I can get cheaper rooms offsite, or else I would stay on property. Am I right to assume that the dining plan is only offered to those who stay on property?

Yes, that's correct. The number of days of dining is linked to directly to your Disney resort reservation, and you must have at least a 1 day base tix to the parks per person to make the package.

The WDW dining plans are exclusive from WDTC, which means you would need to buy a WDTC package, or be a DVC-er staying on points.

Dolphin and Swan are not Disney resorts so they don't qualify either.

Dining is an add on for the Magic Your Way package.

What if you are staying on property but booked through a third party say expedia? Can you then add the park tickets and dining plan?

As long as you booked a package with Expedia you can add the Dining Plan. I think you need to call and add it before you get to your resort. Otherwise at check-in you can add it, but I am not quite sure. If you have only room reservations, you will need to cancel those and buy a package.

The dining plan can not be added at check-in. It has to be added at least 72 hours before your arrival date.
