Dining Plan question about walk-up locations

So I've done the Deluxe Dining plan in the past, but I'm doing the Quick-Service Dining Plan on my trip in a few months for the first time. And I understand how the counter service restaurants factor into that, but what about walk-up locations?

For example, I know that the egg rolls at the Egg Roll Wagon aren't snack credits. But do they fit ANYWHERE on the dining plan? Can they count as a quick-service, even if they're not from an actual quick-service location? Same goes for the tots from Friar's Nook, the skewers from Westward Ho, etc.

Or are these going to be out-of-pocket?

To my understanding, those will be OOP unless labeled with a snack symbol. Only meals from QS locations will count towards your QS entitlements, unless exchanging for 3 snack credits.

It has been my experience, for QS dining plan, it is VERY hard to even come out close to breaking even on that plan unless you go "top shelf" for your 2 snack credits and utilize your refill mug a ton. You may find that paying OOP for everything is going to be the most budget friendly advice. If $$ is of no concern, ignore :-)

Edited to add: I had forgotten about the DDP being able to utilize alcohol purchased too. So, that can also help tip the program in your favor if you are one to utilize purchasing alcoholic drinks when you dine. Not our thing, which is probably why I forgot it !

Agreed. However, if you order an alcoholic drink with both meals and get higher priced snacks you do end up surpassing the cost of the plan (if not free dining). Also, remember when paying oop you must include the tax which is included in the plan. Nevertheless, you do have to work it. The winners are those with kids under 10 who can order adult meals while paying kids' prices. At least for now Disney allows this.

The last trip we were planning was in December and we were using the regular dining plan. My DD and DSIL decided we had been missing the really good snacks so they researched DDP snacks like it was their job! They had a lot of fun while they were doing this, and of course made sure they let all of us know what and who to watch and who to read. I honestly believe that on either the QS or the DDP, snacks can be the tipping point, one way or the other. We snack and used them for breakfast, and a few of us had alcohol or specialty beverages at meals, even the CS lunches. Those things are wicked expensive and I never would have paid those prices for a pretty blue sparkly beverage (I am too darn cheap)

Once you decide how and where your family likes to eat and drink and if you look at how much tax will increase the costs, the decision is easier, IMO. If my family did not like the pricy snacks or alcohol, I would not bother with the CS plan.
