Dining plan problem last week

Please keep track of your credits and hold on to your receipts. We checked out at WLV yesterday and there was a charge for $28 at the Earl of Sandwich. We used the meal plan and did not spend any cash there. But, since we did not have our receipts, there were 7 of us, the front desk told us we were out of luck. After that we went to lunch at their quick service place, and we were short 1 childrens counter service. So, bottom line, check how many credits you have each time when you get your receipts and keep them.

That's really a surprise that they wouldn't do anything without a receipt. I had a similar problem at BCV last time and the CM offered to reimburse us, no question, no receipt. She appologized, saying "Unfortunately, this happens often."

It was a surprise to us as well. The cast member went to the back to speak to someone and said that without a receipt we were out of luck. I am glad that you had a good experience in getting your account settled.

I have had the happen and now I chose not to have the room charging priv.

We ran into this last week as well. We went to Mama Melrose's. My older DS is considered an adult. The server charged us for 3 adult dinners and 2 children -- there should have been 3 adult dinners and 1 child. We brought it to his attention and then had it corrected at the hotel. My DH was glad I caught it and since it was our first night, made us check our receipts after that. Great advice!

I suspect, for a time, they would be willing to take guests' word for it, but as time goes on, this becomes known to unscrupulous guests as well, and exploitation begins. At that point, they would have no choice but to require receipts, especially for non-Disney eateries, given that that's a cash transfer.

Not having room-charging privileges on the room key you use for Dining Plan purchases is really a great idea. We learned that the hard way, and made the change to our room keys mid-way through our trip.

We don't intend to have room charging but are worried what would happen if the card didn't work at the end of the meal.

The cards have numbers on them that can be entered manually by the cashier.

Thanks for the advice not to have room charging privileges.
That will alleviate a lot of the issue, right?
I assume that we still need to look before and after each meal to make sure the right amount has been deducted?

I thought the room keys always had room charging on them. I am new to this dining plan and have a few questions. The room keys have the passes and the dining on each key..for each member of the Party? Are all the dining credits on each of the keys..are they pooled or does each person who has their own key have just their dining credits on it. Also how does not having the key also have charging priviliges help with the problems mentioned above? Is it that the restaurant couldn't have charged the room for the meal? Is it best then to have one card..or one member in the party not have a key/card that has charging priviliges and that's the one you present when you dine? ...I think I even confused myself..sorry. I am wondering because we will have two kids in with us..or at least on our reservation..and my older son has another reservation..in his own name. Often one of the younger kids stays in with him. I figured it was easier when I made the reservations (WL) to just put the kids (15,17) on our reservation. When we eat together will we need to present one of our dining cards..and then my older son with another reservation ..he would present his dining card? Would it be better to just put the reservations as one..or does it matter. Thanks for whoever can figure out what I just asked!

OTOH, all Dining Plan credits are indeed available on all room keys. This is wholly separate from charging privileges.

If room keys don't have charging privileges on them, CMs cannot mistakenly process your restaurant bill as a (cash) room charge instead of as a Dining Plan charge.

i was told that dining credits can only be used for the people on the keys so if someone wanted to treat guest of there's on there dining plan credits won't allow that anymore anyone know the answer to this thanks

This is why we always make at least 1 key no-charging. That is the one that gets handed in to pay for meals with any of the dining packages. Usually DH gets the charge key and I get the no charge key (I like to "pay" for meals). Sometimes the CM makes a mistake and forgets about the dining credits - this ensures it doesn't happen.

Keeping your reciepts is a good idea no matter what. My youngest was under 3 last trip and had no credits of his own. A couple of times at character meals, we were charged 4 credits instead of 3. The hotelfixed it for us no problem, but I did have my reciept.

This sounds really strange, but I carried a plastic zip lock bag to put all of the receipts in just to make sure nothing funny happened. The one night I was not in charge of the reciepts guess what happened. System was down couldn't get a manager on the phone to approve our CS credits and paid out of pocket. DH didn't get the receipt so POP told us no receipt they can do nothing for us. I finally gave up (after doing some huffin and puffing) and at which point he asked if there was anything else he could do and I told him yes to pick up the phone in the future or deal with me again.

I wish they would get some kind of voucher system to use when their system goes down it would make things less complicated. The zip lock does work as long as you keep one person in charge of it!!!

How did you handle a bill where there were non-DDP items (like wine or beer)?
