Dining plan & paying OOP for kids?

Ok, one more thing... we are traveling with my dad and my sister. Will we all have our own cards with our dining credits on them, or will they all be lumped onto one card? There are a few times when we have chosen to eat at different spots. Thanks for your help!

If you are all staying in the same room, all the credits will be on each card and anyone can use their card to purchase meals. If you are in different rooms, all the credits for the people staying in room 1 will appear on the cards of the people listed in room 1, the room 2 credits will appear only on the room 2 guests cards. Feel free to keep asking questions. We're more than happy to help.

6 Days until our trip... and I still have questions?! What's wrong with me?! Okay, last one I swear - IF my stepDD doesn't go (read thread under "travel" if interested - though it's not that interesting) does that mean we'll have all of her meals pooled in with ours that will be unused?? Could we just give them away at each restaurant or let our DD2 use them (since she technically doesn't have vouchers). Or when we get there and say "DD13 didn't come after all" will they say okay and the vouchers will disappear??

Off the top - it's a financial issue (re: cancellation fee versus paying for admission media which you aren't using).
I'd look at how much you're paying for her admission media, and whether it's better to cancel (paying a cancellation penalty), or pay for her admission media (in her name, to be left for another trip) *and* have use of her credits.

Anyone can use the credits, so if you're paying for her inclusion in your package, you'll have her ticket (hers, personally, to be used at a later date) and "her" credits added to your reservation.

Basically, the number of people *on* the reservation determines the credits.

I hope that helps.

I agree with above, if you don't cancel her reservation (tickets and plan) you and your family can use her credits at will. If you do cancel her reservation, then you lose those credits.

Is it okay for adults to share a meal? I know a lot of places give pretty decent amounts of food and I'm wondering if 2 adults can use just 1 table service meal point or whatever and share instead of using both and getting 2 meals. It just seems to me like they would frown upon that, but I don't know??

If you check out some of the dining reports on this board you will find many instances of people sharing a meal and only using 1 TS credit. Many places will even divide the food up for you in the kitchen so you each get a plate full of food.

One thing we did was share the counter service meals. For us these meals were huge. We would often just get two or three counter service meals and split them between us. I would order an extra drink if we needed it. We then used some of the CS meals for breakfast at the WL. You could get two breakfast meals with donuts for desert and it would be more than enough for us for breakfast. We got the refillable mugs so we typically got bottled water with the meals at WL to take to the parks with us.

We also did pay for the kids meals at Alfredos and a CRT dinner. DW and I used those 4 credits for a meal at Artist Point. FYI I asked at the desk and this is allowed.

All in for 7 nights we ate at the following TS places:

Alfredo's, Paid for 2 kids.
Crystal Palace Breakfast,
CRT Dinner, Paid for 2 kids.
Hollywood and Vine Fantasmic Dinner. (They let us pay with the dinning plan)
Concourse Steakhouse
Artists Point
Boma
Liberty Tree Tavern Character Dinner

Counter service was all over the place and we had one snack off the plan. A funnel cake at Epcot.

Over 7 days our total out of pocket food cost was aproximately $40 along with the cost of the refillable mugs. We definitly didn't go hungry and ended up eating pretty well.

I really don't know how we'd use all those meal credits! But on the other hand, it makes more sense to hold her ticket until "next time" rather than pay a penalty for "not" using something we've already paid for in full.

Big Question: Does her park ticket have to be used by her when the time comes to use it... or can me or my DH use it on our next trip?

I believe that the ticket will be on the key issued to her and have her name on it. I don't know if those type of tickets are transferable as they were bought as part of a package and there is a slight (and I mean slight) dicount of buying the tickets direct.

On the other hand they are not keyed to anyone's biometrics until you use them so another adult could use the ticket but if they every had to show idea because the biometrics didn't work it could be a problem.

Sorry to need to have this s-p-e-l-l-e-d out for me! If my DD13 wants to order off of the kids menu at LeCellier or Mama Melrose... can she? I know she'd rather eat the kiddie food and also it's only $5. or so for the meal so it's a win for all of us... but will they allow it? I know on a buffet she pays adult price.

recently someone posted the price for anyone over kids menu age was double the menu charge( ie if charge was 5, now was 10) this happened at Lecellier ( and was the case with afew posters)

why not visit some signature restaurants??

you can use it on your next trip--you purchased it, it's not as if it was transferred/sold to a third party.
(are you going back within a year? maybe you combine it with one of your tix into an AP before your trip ends?)
--we had 7-day MYW with our pkg in aug. we used our tix to get into MK on day 7, stopped by city hall and i changed our tix into APs. --i paid the difference btwn the 7-day and the AP (w/DVC discount it was a no-brainer) I don't see why you couldn't also apply the value of the unused ticket to a similar upgrade

We're in a similar situation -- it's only 15 days until we leave, and we still don't know if DH will get to come with us as planned. He was supposed to have the week off, but they haven't found anyone to fill in for him yet, and if they don't find someone in time, he'll have to stay behind.

Since his ticket can just be saved for later and we'd forfeit a fee if we cancelled it, we'll probably just hold onto it for a future trip, and let DS (2) use some of his food credits so he can have his own kids' meals when he wants them. I'd cancel it if there weren't a fee, but since there is, it just seems more practical to keep it for next time. (And we probably won't know for sure whether he'll be able to come or not until literally the day before we go -- so at that point we'd just lose the entire purchase price anyway, if I understand the rules correctly. If I have to pay for it anyway, I might as well save his ticket for next time!)

I have a question. When to the credits expire? I am splitting my stay and if I do the dining plan for the first 3 nights (Sun, Mon, Tues) and staying at the second hotel on Wed, Thur. Would the credits expire on Wednesday or are they good like the park tickets are good for 14 days after first use?

Thank you.

The expire at midnight on the day you check out of the stay that you got the credits with. In this case they would expire at midnight on Wednesday.

I think this is part of where Disney does make out with the dinning plan. (Setting aside the promo) I have spoken to more than one person that left with unused credits.

Thank you. That is what I thought, but was hoping for the other. I guess it won't be too bad and I shouldn't have any unused credit too. I would only have to pay of lunch and dinner for Thursday and lunch on Friday. We are eating in breakfast in the room.

By that end of the three days I might be too stuff to eat anything anyway :rotfl:

if you're staying in a moderate or better for the latter part of your visit, why not use the counter service credits to pick up some pre-packaged sandwiches and such and store them in the fridge in your new room?
you'd have a handful of lunches that way.
