Dining Plan Only Through Walt Disney Travel?

I plan on traveling to WDW in Aug. and would like to purchase the dining plan. Is it only possible to purchase this if you book through Walt Disney Travel? I have been searching for the best price for packages (staying at a Disney resort), but the dining plan was never an add-on option except through the Disney website. Is it possible to add this on and if so, how? Thanks for any assistance you can give me.

I don't know if you belong to AAA, but they booked the whole package with dining for me.

We were able to book Dining as a part of our package with Your Magical Journeys TA.

You can added also throught the Smallworldvacation site and through dreamsunlimited site as well (the last one not for sure).

A tip if you are going in August would be to wait until late May. Disney typically releases AMAZING deals for the end of August-1st of December. I anticipate the deals this year are going to be even better than last year (remember free dining??). I would not book with anyone until the promo is released, just my .02

Can't you just "update" a package reservation to reflect a special deal when and if it is offered? I went last August and was able to add free dining to my package far after it was booked. I hesitate waiting to book until May because now that ADRs can be made 180 days in advance, I want to be sure that I make those early enough to guarantee that I get the restaurants I want at the times I want.

We found that when we booked our vacation with the dining plan through AAA, we got a discount on the price. We will be doing this again this year.
