My family and I will be traveling to DW in May and our daughter will be 18 months. This is our first trip to DW with her and we are planning on getting the dining plan. We have gotten it in the past and we love it. The plans say that they are not available for kids under 3, but she will be eating meals. We can share off our plate, but I think she would enjoy the kids meals better. Did you buy your child a meal on their own or is there a way around this?

We went last March with our then 18 month old! We were also on the DP. The only time we had to "share" meals with our son was when we went to quick service or buffets. When we went to regular table service restaurants they always have him a kids meal :) we went to garden grill (they brought out the kids options for us as well as the adult ones) CRT asked what kids item he'd want, etc. it was awesome!

We went last Aug with our DD who was 2 and we just made ADRs for TS that were buffets. We did 1900 Park Faire twice one dinner and one breakfast. Tusker house for lunch, Hollywood and vine for breakfast and askerhaus for breakfast. All were good and then for quick service she shared with us and it was plenty of food. I also brought snacks with us to supplement but didn't need most of them. Enjoy!!

Did you pay for those kid meals?

At most places if we wanted to get them something and not just feed them off our plate (they were 24 months), yes, we paid. The only place we didn't pay was buffets, where they could get their own plate but was still considered "eating off our plates."

Wanted to add at Garden Grill we didn't pay for their kids options since they're considered a buffet.

I went in March with an 18 month old and had the dining plan. She ate off of our plates at quick service and table service. At buffets she was able to have her own plate, (but technically she was eating off my own plate). Every table service gave her a drink for free except for Chefs de France, but I think this is left to the servers discretion. I was never offered a free meal for her, but you can order one and pay for it. We didn't have a problem sharing with her there was a lot of food on the plan.

Are you saying that under 3 they literally don't get a plate, or can they get a plate and you put some of your food on their plate? My dd2 is highly offended when she doesn't get her own plate princess:.

She will have her own plate at the buffets. When the boys were little, I just used the bread plate, or asked for a small plate to put food on.

There was no charge for the kids meals since he was only 18 months. I didn't even ask for them. They just brought it out in their own :)

Since I had no desire to eat only toddler friendly foods, I just booked DD at Disney as being 3 years old and paid for a dining plan for her. This way she had her own credits and could eat what she liked.

I hope you are aware that that means you also have to buy a park pass for her.

Unless you are staying as a DVC member, or renting points ( and perhaps as an AP holder), If you "age up" a child for DDP reasons, then you also have to pay for tickets

When DS was under 3, he got penne with butter at CRT for free and was able to choose anything off the kids menu at Akershus for free. Both times it was offered. Most of our meals were family style where he always received a drink and his own plate, it's self serve so you take the plates yourself anyway. If you wanted to occasionally order a separate kids meal at a QS or a non-buffet, it'd probably be cheaper to pay OOO for those meals than a dining plan. Between dessert options and snack credits, the younger child should be covered.
